Wool is the perfect material for an oven mitt - it has a very high burn point, is an excellent insulator and is extremely durable.

The finished mitt can be used on either hand and is machine washable.

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner to Intermediate

MATERIALS NEEDED:
7 oz of worsted weight wool yarn
size G or H crochet hook

FINISHED SIZE: approximately 10-12" long x 7" wide

I've shown pictures of two versions - the purple one is the short and simple size I like. DH prefers a longer one (to protect him from his grill, I guess. Not to mention his has to be burnt orange, being a Texas-Ex and all). Instructions for both versions are included.

I love old turn-of-the-century crochet patterns. I adapted this scarf from an edging pattern in a 1917 publication titled 'Corticelli Lessons in Crochet Book No. 2.' If you have ever tried to follow a very old crochet pattern you know that deciphering the instructions can be very confusing. My version is much easier to understand and to make. Although it looks complicated, this scarf is very easy to make - it uses a thick yarn and a large hook and can comfortably be completed in an evening!

SKILL LEVEL: Easy

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
* Approximately 6 oz. of any 'thick and quick' type yarn such as Lion Brand Wool-Ease or Lion Brand Chenille
* Size K crochet hook (English size 2, metric size 6.5)
* Button (if you plan to make the neckwarmer)

APPROXIMATE FINISHED SIZE:

neckwarmer: 5" wide by 21" long
scarf: 5" wide by 55" long (or whatever length you prefer!)

I love old turn-of-the-century crochet patterns. I adapted this scarf from a lace pattern I found in a 1912 publication titled 'A Book of Edgings for Pillow Slips, Dresser Covers, Towels and Dress Trimmings.' If you have ever tried to follow a very old crochet pattern you know that deciphering the instructions can be very confusing. My version is much easier to understand and to make. Although it looks complicated, my pattern is very simple to make - if you can make single and double crochet stitches, you can make this scarf.

The multicolored pink yarn used in the scarf pictured is Paton's SWS.

These bowls are super easy and inexpensive to make. It is my own design and uses only basic crochet stitches. Both round and lightly squared bowls (see the photo of the green ones) are explained. A very easy project that can be completedly in an hour or two! The yarn used here is Paton's SWS, a soy-wool blend.

This pattern is inspired both by the the Irish crocheted shamrock motifs that have appeared in crocheted edgings, appliques and embellishments since the turn of the century and by the current popularity of simple lariats. I've simplified the shamrock instructions to make for a more updated (and easier to create) result.

To get the look above, you'll need:

I love old turn-of-the-century crochet patterns. I adapted this scarf from an insertion pattern in a 1910 publication titled 'Antique Design or Spider' by Emma Farnes. If you have ever tried to follow a vintage crochet pattern you know that deciphering the instructions can be very confusing. My version is much easier to understand. Although it looks complicated, this scarf is very easy to make.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
* Approximately 6 oz. of any worsted weight yarn
* Size F crochet hook (metric size 3.74; English size 8)

APPROXIMATE FINISHED SIZE: 5" wide by 58" long (or whatever length you prefer!)

A very easy project! It uses only basic stitches.

This pattern was inspired by a funky 70's crocheted fern plant pattern! I love the organic shapes, and if you use wool yarn you can felt it slightly for a smoother look.

Materials needed:
*approximately 6 oz.of a bulky weight yarn
*a size I crochet hook (metric size 5.5; English size 5)

But any combination of yarn size and hook will work! The red scarf was made with Lion Brand Wool yarn, a size F hook and was lightly felted in the washing machine. The green scarf was made with a bulky weight yarn (Lion Brand Jiffy) and a size I hook. The blue one with a medium weight soy/wool blend (Patons SWS) and a size F hook.

My version has been simplified and directions are much easier to understand. Although it looks complicated, my pattern is very simple to make - if you can make chains and triple crochet stitches, you can make this scarf.

Size F crochet hook (English size 8 or metric size 3.75cm) OR hook of your choice!

Approximately 3.5" wide by however long you want it!

You'll need:
* black and white worsted weight yarn and
* F or G crochet hook (English 8 or 7; metric 3.75 or 4.25)
* a tapestry needle.

For each cookie, make two black and 1 white of the following discs:

TO START: CH 2. Work 6 SC in the second CH from the hook.
ROUND 1: Make 2 SC in each of the 6 stitches (12 SC total.)
ROUND 2: (SC 1, make 2 SC in the next stitch) all the way around (18 SC total.)
ROUND 3: (SC for 2, make 2 SC in the next stitch) all the way around (24 SC total.)

SL ST to the next SC and finish off. Weave in loose ends.
Use a tapestry needle and a length of the black yarn to sew together the three pieces with a running stitch.
