This art yarn has been spun from my own hand blended fibre mix of fine, dark green and bright green merino wool, pale green merino/silk blend, black and light green linen and golden angelina (glittery fibre). I plied it with metallic thread strung with flat golden and green leaf-shaped sequins.
This skein would make a lovely small project, such as a neck warmer or a pair of shorter wrist warmers.

How I long for the grey days to be over and the more wintry, white ones to start! As a fibre artist, I am in the position to create yarn with relation to my moods and longings and that is exactly what I have done with this one. I have created a bright, wintry sky with hints of the first snow.

This seasonal art yarn has been spun from my own hand blended fibre mix: wonderfully soft, white merino wool; fine white milk proteine fibre (also known as milk silk); fluffy white alpaca; glossy white bamboo, and a small amount of a hand dyed, rich blend of Bluefaced Leicester wool and tussah silk of midnight blue. I've also added sparkling angelina (glittery fibre) and spun in an iridescent mother-of-pearl thread strung with iridescent sequings shaped like snow flakes.

This is my second Moon Goddess inspired art yarn, and it is quite different from the first one, though the colours were quite similar and I used moon stones with both of them. I have spun this one from a gorgeous, naturally white fibre blend and added sparkling facetted glass beads of different shapes, genuine freshwater pearls and moon stone beads.

The fibre I used for this beautiful yarn is a blend of creamy Bluefaced Leicester wool and fine kid mohair fibre which I have spun around a thread using the corespinning technique. The result is this very soft and lofty cloud of yarn, rich in texture and sparkle, since I've also added generous amounts of white angelina (glittery fibre).

Have you ever seen the ocean glow?
It's an experience you'll never forget. I was lucky to witness it (many years ago) and I'm still shuddering a bit when I think about it - it's very beautiful and slightly eerie. The white crestwaves seem to glow greenishly or blueishly, and occasionally there are tiny balls of electric blue that seem to be running over the surface of the water -- a phenomenon produced by marine invertebrates.

I have captured my memory of that stunning experience in this handspun yarn: by daylight you see it in colours of the ocean, in the dark it glows eerily.

I have spun the fibre around the thread, using the core spinning technique, which results in a wonderfully lofty and soft yarn with unique texture with a glow in the dark core (see last picture). Physalis is the name of a plant species which includes the edible Cape Gooseberry. The colours of this yarn were inspired by the colours of that plant/fruit and I'd have very much liked to decorate the pictures with the matching fruits, but I am a bit embarrassed to say I've already eaten them all *blush* Anyway, the yarn can speak for itself, the colours are spectacular.

I've carded the fibre blend myself, it consists of hand dyed wool/silk blend of bright orange and intense green, light green tussah silk/merino blend, and merino wool of vibrant orange and red. I've also added some golden angelina (glittering fibre) which sparkles in the light, but is hard to catch with a camera.

This art yarn has been spun from my own hand blended and quite unusual fibre mix: a special kind of silk - which I couldn't find the correct English word for (in German it is Schappeseide) and which is soft and shiny, yet textured and still contains bits of vegetable matter - white alpaca, white and orange merino wool, angelina (glittery fibre) and strips of a strange orange fabric material which looks like compressed threads. A shiny orange thread has been spun in to add texture and colour.
The yarn has a very flowing quality to it which is hard to describe. It is soft to the touch, but if you're sensitive you might want to make something from it that's not worn next to the skin, since the fabric strips are a little scratchy where they show.

Vineta is a mythical town believed to have been on the Baltic Coast. No one knows today, where the city really laid, but it was commonly said to be on the present site of Wolin in Poland, of Zinnowitz on Usedom island in Germany or close to Barth.

A fluffy fiber mix from soft merino wool in cream shite, vivid green and sky blue, black alpaca and shiny gray bamboo was corespun into this beautiful, fluffy yarn. Angelina lends glitter. Strung onto it are lots of shiny glass beads in gray and green.

This Art Yarn is spun from the same fiber mix as "Lyonesse". They were spun in a completely different technique, resulting in two very different yarns. But they would complement nevertheless beautifully.

Lyonesse is the lost land on the shore of Cornwall. It is the site of the final battle between King Arthur and Mordred, mystical, and long forgotten.

This beautiful, yet quite plain Art Yarn was spun from charcoal black bamboo fiber, merino wool in sky blue, vivid green and cream white, black alpaca and just a tiny bit of glittering Angelina fiber. When I received the fibre I used for this yarn, I was quite shocked, to be honest. It was a huge pile of glittering stuff and I was at a loss what to do with that oddity. I testspun a little and then it hit me - another flowery meadow would not only be great, but would also look like those patches of artificial turf you can buy for decoration - which I don't really like as such, but which would be hilarious as a yarn. I came to like the strange fibre, after all ;-)

Apart from that odd fleece (which is made of merino and nylon glittery fibre), I used glass beads of red and yellow for more flowery effect and, of course, the daisies you can clearly see poking through everywhere. The beads and flowers have been strung onto sewing thread with which the yarn has been plied.
The fibre is not as soft as pure merino wool, so if you're sensitive the yarn might be better suited for a purse or something else not worn directly on the skin.

Guess what this handspun art yarn was inspired by? Yes, Captain Jack Sparrow and other temerarious pirates.
Take your rapier, cutlass, rope - and, of course, knitting needles and this yarn - and board the next best ship heading for adventure!

This yarn has been spun in the core spinning technique, where the fibre is spun around a core thread with an angle of 90 degree (mostly) and which results in a wonderfully lofty and soft yarn with unique texture. I've used glossy alpaca fibre, fine merino wool, linen/flax and mulberry silk, all in black. Angelina (glittery fibre) of black and steel add sparkling highlights, as do beautiful, facetted glass beads of read that look like drops of blood. The main highlight are the skulls, though - carved from bone, they complete the piratey look and will surely get everyone's attention.

Adamantium - X-Men inspired, handspun Art Yarn - laceweight

A little while ago I went to the cinema to see "Wolverine", which I enjoyed very much. So much, in fact, that I decided to see all the X-Men films again. I was especially fascinated by the adamantium metal, which, in its liquid form, looked like something between aluminium and mercury. I have to admit that when I decided to spin a yarn inspired by this special material, I didn't immediately think of the fact that fibre is a bit more furry than metal ;-) Anyway, apart from the fact that metal shouldn't really be hairy, I am extremely satisfied. The yarn has a very special haptic quality to it and it appears curiously cool and kind of flowing/liquid.

Less typical in colour than our other Halloween art yarns, this one is very unique. Inspired by the concept of scarecrows, it is meant to look a bit ragged and (to some extent) spooky. It is not as soft as our other yarns, so if you're sensitive you might want to make something from it that is not intended to be worn next to the skin. A small bag/purse has been my personal favourite mind game so far ;-) I have to admit, selling this one is rather a challenge since I've become quite fond of it.

This art yarn has been spun from my own hand blended fibre mix: black and grey alpaca, white and brown shetland wool, soy silk, hemp fibre, linen/flax and sparkling angelina (glittery fibre).
Cream coloured ribbons with textile leaves have been added, as well as ribbons of a more rough and scarecrow-suited texture. I have spun in a copper thread that makes for wonderful highlights. The stars of all the added bits, however, are my own handmade zombie heads, made from polymer clay with glow in the dark faces (see last picture to get an idea).

The Snow Queen II - Unusual Handspun Laceweight Art Yarn -- 480 yards

It's been a while since I've spun my first Snow Queen yarn. I liked it very much, but I felt there were so many qualities about her character that one yarn alone simply couldn't do her justice. The first yarn focused on her merciless-seeming and cold aspects; it was spun from shiny, cool silk and contained facetted glass beads that looked like ice. This second Snow Queen yarn, however, describes her appearance as fur-clad ruler over the snow bees (snow flakes), glittering and yet matt. The yarn is unusual for lace yarn due to the haptic qualities - it is soft, yet the linen fibre I've used with the other fibres give the yarn a unique texture.

This yarn has been spun from soft, lofty Blue Faced Leicester wool, a very shiny and soft wool/silk blend, linen/flax and angelina (glittering fibre).

Hagrid's Suit - Handspun Harry Potter inspired Art Yarn

Have you read Harry Potter? I have. And I had particular pleasure to read about Hagrid's hairy suit. I imagined it really terribly hairy, brown, but with all kinds of color in it.

And now I spun a matching yarn! Brown, soft merino wool is amended by merino wool in the colors of dark violet, teal, ruby red and black. Traces of white, soft and shiny bamboo fiber make a nice contrast. But the best thing: A fuzzy black eyelash-yarn was spun into the yarn, so it looks furry indeed! Occasionally, inconspicious bits of Angelina glitter add a hint of sparkle.
The yarn was then plied, so the colors mix nicely.

Soft merino wool in different shades of light blue, white and gray were spun together with shiny bright banana silk fiber to mimic a cloudy summer sky. Roughly cut fabric strips of green linen were spun into the yarn, and a silver metallic thread is wound all around the yarn to lend some glitter.

Punk Rock Fairy - Handspun Art Yarn with Screw Nuts

I have been fascinated by screw nuts as long as I can remember. That fascination seems to have become a bit of an obsession since I discovered their use in funky art yarns. Maybe you have seen my "Punk Goes Metal" yarn or my "'cause I'm a Punk" yarn. I didn't want to use the same colours again, so I put many differend fibres onto our drum carder, mostly black, but adding a bit of hand dyed wool of gorgeous greenish-turquoise. I absolutely love the outcome, if you don't mind my saying so.

This special art yarn has been spun from my own hand carded fibre mix: black merino wool, black alpaca fibre, black mulberry silk, black linen/flax, hand dyed lambs wool of different shades of darker turquoise and sparkling angelina (glittery fibre). I have also spun in black organza ribbons. I have plied the yarn with a glittering black thread strung with screw nuts and metal discs, giving it a wavy texture and a very cool look ;-)
