HAND CUT KIRIGAMI GREETING CARDS:
Kirigami is the Japanese papercraft of folded and cut paper. These cards are delightful three-dimensional creations where the design pops out when opened.

Each of these whimsical cards is created by Cynthia Emerlye using no patterns or templates. Each design is imagined as it is being cut, thus forming a completely unique creation. This makes it an unusually elegant card and perfect for a wedding, anniversary, or other special occasion. Enjoy!

The Creation Process: A square of artist-grade paper or cardstock is printed with the EmerlyeArts logo. Then it is hand-folded and cut with scissors into its basic flat shape. At this time the decorative hand stamping and gilding is done. Once the stamp dye is dry, cutting of the design begins. Each card is cut with scissors, punches, and knives and with NO pattern. It takes approximately one hour to cut each card. As the card design emerges, it is folded and re-folded several times to check how the work looks in three dimensions. When the cutting is finished the inside is glued down with archival Yes! glue to hold it in place and is pressed overnight in a paper press or between heavy books. Then the card is popped into shape, photographed, named, and placed in a protective cello sleeve, ready to be listed and sold.

Appearance: Closed, the card forms a square, oval or heart shape. Delicate hand stamping is rendered on the front of the card as decoration. Often this decoration is highlighted with hand gilding. A space is left blank on the front of the card to write a sentiment to the receiver. When the card is opened, the design pops out in three-dimensional form to surprise and delight. On the back of the card is the EmerlyeArts logo. These cards vary in closed size from 4 to 5 inches square. An envelope is included as is an enclosure describing the art of kirigami, and directions for how to write on the card.

HAND CUT KIRIGAMI GREETING CARDS:
Kirigami is the Japanese papercraft of folded and cut paper. These cards are delightful three-dimensional creations where the design pops out when opened.

Each of these whimsical cards is created by Cynthia Emerlye using no patterns or templates. Each design is imagined as it is being cut, thus forming a completely unique creation. This makes it an unusually elegant card and perfect for a wedding, anniversary, or other special occasion. Enjoy!

The Creation Process: A square of artist-grade paper or cardstock is printed with the EmerlyeArts logo. Then it is hand-folded and cut with scissors into its basic flat shape. At this time the decorative hand stamping and gilding is done. Once the stamp dye is dry, cutting of the design begins. Each card is cut with scissors, punches, and knives and with NO pattern. It takes approximately one hour to cut each card. As the card design emerges, it is folded and re-folded several times to check how the work looks in three dimensions. When the cutting is finished the inside is glued down with archival Yes! glue to hold it in place and is pressed overnight in a paper press or between heavy books. Then the card is popped into shape, photographed, named, and placed in a protective cello sleeve, ready to be listed and sold.

Appearance: Closed, the card forms a square, oval or heart shape. Delicate hand stamping is rendered on the front of the card as decoration. Often this decoration is highlighted with hand gilding. A space is left blank on the front of the card to write a sentiment to the receiver. When the card is opened, the design pops out in three-dimensional form to surprise and delight. On the back of the card is the EmerlyeArts logo. These cards vary in closed size from 4 to 5 inches square. An envelope is included as is an enclosure describing the art of kirigami, and directions for how to write on the card.

Some have asked me why my bifolds, like hearts, eggs, and ovals are more expensive than the seemingly more elaborate mandalas. Bifolds actually take longer to cut than 8 folded mandalas. There is more surface area to cut and adapting the design to an irregular shape involves more spatial awareness.
