"Flutter" earrings feature brightly colored hand-illustrated butterflies in yellow and blue with a bright red heart on each wing, all on a pink-lavender background. The lightweight wooden disks are 7/8 inch in diameter (approximately 2 cm) and are solid black on the reverse side. "Confessions of an English Opium Eater," Thomas DeQuincey's autobiographical account of his addiction to laudanum, is the unusual "inspiration" for this one-of-a-kind necklace.

A beautiful and dreamy face surrounded by poppy seeds (well... microbeads, really) peers out from a burnished red poppy flower gleaming with magical gold tones, and hangs from strands of reddish-brown jasper, poppy jasper and exotic painted wooden tube beads accented with gold-filled beads. The beads terminate in two handcrafted burnished red polymer clay cones and the necklace is completed with a pristinely simple gold-filled toggle clasp.

The total length of the necklace is approximately 15.5 inches. The show-stopping poppy focal piece is 2.5 inches (6cm) in diameter and has a self-contained tube on the back through which the beads go.

Truthfully, I was more inspired by the Michelle Shocked song of the same name which I first discovered on the "Dead Man Walking" soundtrack. Michelle repeats the theme which Shakespeare explored much earlier, and just as eloquently and passionately:

A fleur de lis design (a stylized lily symbolic of things French), hand-crafted in bronze-toned polymer clay, is the centerpiece of the "LaSalle" earrings.

LaSalle County, Illinois USA was named for the French explorer Robert de LaSalle of Rouen, Normandy. It is the second largest county in the state in area, and is home of the historic and beautiful Starved Rock State Park, both a destination point and a getaway. The park is four-seasons-gorgeous, and I am proud to title these earrings in the county's (and explorer's) name.

"Each of us is born with a box of matches inside us but we can't strike them all by ourselves."

The "Like Water For Chocolate" earrings were titled after the incredible book (and movie) by Laura Esquivel. These one of a kind earrings (1-1/8 inches long [3cm] excluding earwires) are created with stabilized turquoise* roundelles and my own hand-crafted chocolate brown polymer clay beads. The marbling of the barrel-shaped beads reminds me of steaming, swirling hot chocolate and combines beautifully with the turquoise. The earrings are perfectly finished with sterling silver spacers, jump rings and small hoop earwires handmade in Arizona by Rocki’s Supplies (do check out her shop!).

*Much turquoise is rather soft, and only a small percentage of it is actually used as "natural" turquoise. "Stabilized" turquoise simply means that a stabilizing compound (usually a resin) has been added to the stone; it is drawn into the stone's pores and makes it harder; it can then be successfully cut and shaped into beads, etc. Stabilized turquoise is a high-quality stone that is not color-treated, and because the stone's pores are sealed, it will not change color over years of contact with the skin's oils.

Treasure is everywhere; sometimes you have to dig around for it!
"Buried Treasure" features four unusual varieties of carrots in their unique colors, shapes and sizes; the brilliantly reddish-colored slender "Atomic Red," the slightly stubby "Red Core Chantenay," the exotic-looking "Purple Haze," and the graceful "Touchon." The carrots' wispy white roots form curlicues and hearts, and their green tops reach for a bright blue sky. "Buried Treasure" illustrates the pleasures of growing our own food and reminds us to try some of the unusual heirloom varieties that were enjoyed before hybridized and geneticized produce dominated stores.
This is original 5 inch x 7 inch artwork created with Prismacolor markers (and a touch of white colored pencil) on 18 lb. Canson pen and marker paper and is signed and dated on the front in my signature "acorn." The gallery quality antique buff single mat perfectly complements the piece, and both the mat and its backing paper are buffered and pH neutral. The combined illustration and mat fits into an 8 inch x 10 inch frame.

A guilty pleasure if there ever was one, yes, I love the movie "Big Trouble in Little China." There, I said it.

Unusual and exotic, the 2-1/4 inch (5.5cm) drops of the "Big Trouble in Little China" earrings are created from a warm cinnabar-colored Fimo polymer clay, stamped with an Asian banner design, and enhanced with metallic pigments, alcohol markers and glazes to achieve an almost enamel-like finish tinged with gold. Since this particular clay remains a bit flexible even after curing, I've added a red backing to the drops for extra durability.

These fun and funky earrings are finished with gold-filled hoop earwires handmade in Arizona by Rocki’s Supplies (do check out her shop!), as well as gold-filled locking jump rings.

The blonde German siren Lorelei, once jilted, returned as a Rhine maiden, and used her seductive song to lure sailors to their demise... they say. You can't always believe stories about a girl's reputation though. Heh.

You will not see another necklace like this. My original illustration of the exotic Lorelei is the focal piece and is affixed to a hand-crafted polymer clay pendant, 5-1/2 inches (14cm) in length. Lorelei's blue mermaid gown is embellished with iridescent stars and a hand-sewn sequined tail; microbeads embellish the bustline.

Lorelei's crowning glory is a tumble of fibers in blonde shades streaked with blue and pink and secured with a glowing aqua bead; she's quite the funky mermaid! And as a reminder of her sailor conquests, she sports a blue anchor tattoo on her upper left arm.

Six 15-inch strands of tiny light blue beads make up the necklace and are gathered in hand-crafted aqua-colored cones fashioned in a freeform shell shape and kissed with a subtle gold finish. The "Lorelei" toggle clasp is also hand-crafted of polymer clay with a mermaid tail bar and in the same aqua-gold color and attached with gold-filled components. Crimps are sterling silver. The beads are strung through the back of the pendant piece. Overall, the necklace measures approximately 16 inches.

The "Lady Godiva" necklace is designed in naughty nude shades of soft peachy pinks; it would have been beautiful on the Lady herself as she rode through Coventry wearing not a stitch of clothing - a tax protest against her own husband!

This is a shorter necklace length of approximately 17 inches with a gorgeous flower focal bead measuring 1-3/4 (4.5cm) inches in diameter. The plastic flower (which was originally black) was a piece that I purchased years ago in a fun shop that sold the most unique beads and stained glass supplies. I re-painted it in an appealing soft peach shade with little flower freckles, and added an 8mm Swarovski crystal bead in the center, then combined it with the palest 4mm rose quartz round beads, natural pink and soft white freshwater pearls, sterling silver components, two rose quartz flower beads and those stunning "Silk" colored 6mm Swarovski bicone crystals. The clasp is a sterling silver toggle.

"French Canyon" is a favorite feature at a beautiful state park in my area, Starved Rock State Park. I've illustrated the canyon's majestic waterfall with marker and acrylic paints on a 7/8 inch x 1-3/8 inch (2cm x 3.5cm) flat wooden bead.

The entire necklace is a beautiful longer length style, 25-1/2 inches (64cm) in total length including the waterfall bead, plus a 3-1/4 inch (8cm) drop. The earthy browns and blues of the waterfall artwork are echoed in the quartz chips, sparkling Swarovski crystals, and glittering glass beads (including Czech glass) that are used to create this piece. A tumble of freshwater pearls in waterfall hues create the drop, and the entire necklace is also accented with sterling silver.

Clasp is a decorative sterling silver S-clasp style.

The retro stylings of the diamond-shaped "Venetian Room" earrings speak of a not-so-distant past. Sporting your finest feathers at the piano bar; an era of flocked velvets and dark woods; cocktail rings; relish trays; and immense ashtrays of abstract designs. The type of establishment where the porterhouse wasn't on the menu, but the "regulars" knew about it. Dessert was a Brandy Alexander, or perhaps scotch on the rocks.

The "Venetian Room" earrings remind me of the countless rummagings through my mother's costume jewelry of the 1950's and 1960's. Her jewelry box contained earrings of endless styles, shapes and colors; no two pairs were remotely the same and she bought a piece of jewelry because it went perfectly with that ONE dress, never to be worn again with a different ensemble.

The diamond-shaped polymer clay drops of the "Venetian Room" earrings are 2 inches long (approx. 5cm) and stamped and painted with a design with the feel of an old Mediterranean tile, then colored with alcohol markers, acrylic paints and layer after layer of glaze to achieve an effect that is almost enamel-like, in shades of ruby red, black and silver. Edges are silver-colored, the backs are a gunmetal grey and each earring is embellished with a Swarovski crystal rhinestone.

The "Venetian Room" earrings are styled with "Retro French" oxidized sterling silver earwires handmade in Arizona by Rocki’s Supplies (do check out her shop!), plus gunmetal-plated jump rings.

This is my homage to my favorite childhood soda, Orange Crush! Plum Island is a 55 acre uninhabited island located in the Illinois River near Starved Rock State Park in Utica, Illinois. With its Native American village burial sites, the island is an important historical location, as well as being a natural habitat for wintering bald eagles.

This necklace was created in honor of Plum Island. The striking 3 inch wide (8cm) focal piece is designed in the shape of the island, created in royal purple polymer clay, stamped with a beautiful organic-style print, and shaded in metallic silvers, rose and green. The rest of the necklace is an 18-inch tumble of 6mm round jasper beads in plum, rose and leafy green shades; amethyst-colored glass beads, gleaming purple mauve AB glass beads and glittering purple and red-violet Swarovski crystals, all embellished with lots and lots of sterling silver. The two-piece hook clasp complements the necklace perfectly, with a dangle of beads, a purple Swarovski crystal, and an adorable "handmade" charm from Argent Tadpole.

Photos 1, 3 and 4 were taken on-site at Starved Rock State Park; the bear woodcarving is a detail on a bench near the park's cabins and gorgeous 1930's Lodge.

Black "feathers" dappled with a touch of color and sparkle darkly contrast with gleaming sterling silver feather charms in the totally unique "Crowfeather" earrings.

A lightweight polymer clay "feather", handcrafted only on the Lonesome Road, is the dark backdrop for three finely detailed sterling silver feather charms on each earring. The leaves dangle from sterling silver strands embellished 4mm Czech glass beads. All other components are sterling silver including the oh-so-hot "Big Loop Wild West" earwires handmade in Arizona by Rocki’s Supplies (do check out her shop!).

Treasure is everywhere; sometimes you have to dig around for it!
"Buried Treasure" features four unusual varieties of carrots in their unique colors, shapes and sizes; the brilliantly reddish-colored slender "Atomic Red," the slightly stubby "Red Core Chantenay," the exotic-looking "Purple Haze," and the graceful "Touchon." The carrots' wispy white roots form curlicues and hearts, and their green tops reach for a bright blue sky. "Buried Treasure" illustrates the pleasures of growing our own food and reminds us to try some of the unusual heirloom varieties that were enjoyed before hybridized and geneticized produce dominated stores.

"Buried Treasure" was originally illustrated in Prismacolor markers. The image area of this print measures 4.625 inches deep x 6.625 inches wide with a 1-1/2 inch white margin all the way around, a perfect size to fit in traditional mats for 5x7 prints. The image is printed on 200GSM Inkpress Matte 60, a bright white, acid and lignin free paper that is also very lightfast. A coat of Krylon Preserve It! further protects the print from UV rays and moisture, and more than doubles the life of the print. My traditional acorn signature prints on the front, and I will sign and date the back.

The original artwork is also available for sale in my shop, and is matted in a gallery quality antique buff mat.

Beautiful gleaming red glass beads and hearts combine with sterling silver, hand-painted metal red heart charms and a free-form hand-crafted red and silver polymer clay heart focal piece in the "The Queen of Hearts" necklace, a piece inspired by my all-time favorite stories, the Alice in Wonderland tales.

The necklace is created with stainless steel memory wire and rests around the collarbone. The heart charms are part of a treasure trove that I came upon in a favorite shop and are hand-painted in red and sealed. The focal piece is a polymer clay heart pendant, 2-1/8 inches long (approx. 5.5cm), stamped and hand-painted in rich red and glowing silver and strung from red wire embellished with an ornate sterling silver bead. At the back, the necklace is finished with a heart-shaped red glass bead and a silver-colored "Handmade" charm from Argent Tadpole.

This necklace is definitely fit for a monarch and is so cute to wear, as you can see in the second photo.

Remember the Ecology Flag of the 1970's? It was one of the first symbols of "going green" and is just as relevant today as it was 30+ years ago. Originally the symbol in the corner was created from the letters "E" and "O", for environment and organism, but later was replaced with the 8th letter of the Greek alphabet, theta. There are 13 stripes, alternating green and white. The flag edges are slightly "tattered" to appear like an old flag.
The original illustration is affixed to a recycled wooden domino that measures slightly larger than 3/4 inch tall x 1-1/2 inches wide and approximately 1/4 inch deep. A 1-inch silver-toned pin back completes the piece.
