My Favorite Treat Peas

This series is all parakeet! Budgies can be very picky eaters. The first bird I ever had refused to eat anything but seed. For weeks I tried everything I could think of to entice the little guy to eat his veggies. He was a very tame bird and loved to hang out with me while I drew, so one day I draped his cage in spinach leaves, put him in the cage and I began eating some myself. He watched me for a few minutes and began eating with gusto. I never had any problem getting a bird to eat veggies after that. Whenever I get a new bird my older ones now teach the babies what's good and they catch on fast.

While parakeets are said to like vegetables better than fruits each has his own personality, likes and dislikes. My birds LOVE peas. It's so cute to see them gathered around a bowl of peas. The pea itself looks so huge in their little beak and it's gratifying to know how much they enjoy them.

My dogs have always made a big deal of chewing them as though they were difficult to chew and swallow and my birds have varied greatly in their love or dismissal of the fruit altogether. In this case the budgie finds it quite a treat.
