This is from a series of three prints of birds that I recently finished. The birds are all native to Finland, and the ones that I remember watching through my grandmothers Kitchen window growing up. The small edition is hand printed by myself from two color plates, with some highlights added with watercolor.

Round Bird Mezzotint

This little print is hot off the press. The print is titled "Scout II" and it belongs to a new series that I am starting that takes a look at animal behavior from a George Orwellian Animal Farm point of view.
"If you look closely enough you might be able to see evidence of animals congregating and plotting. Mice are scouts, birds are eaves dropping, and raccoons are gathering evidence and you might be able to find little ladders and tiny maps rolled up in leaves disguised in our gardens. Information is being collected on us as we speak we just have to look hard enough to see it!
This little print shows a little bird that was caught eavesdropping on the neighborhood coffee shop gossip on the corner of a Washington street. He was uncooperative in revealing what he’d learned and refused to give up information on any other animals who might be involved."

The technique for the print is mezzotint. It is a fairly laborious process that yields beautiful dark satiny prints. For more information on mezzotints you can read this article: http://jimhubbman.calkinsc.com/mezzotint/mezzotint.htm

The images show the paper size and a picture of the print close up. All prints for sale in the shop are signed and editioned by the artist. This is from an edition of 20 prints.

The paper size is 7"x6" and the print itself measures about 3 1/2" in diameter. The mezzotint plate is printed on white thick printmaking paper with a warm black-brown ink.

8"x10" white mats with a round window can be cut to fit this print. Please convo me if you would like one, and I can add it to this listing. 8x10 mats are $8 and the print comes ready mounted in it with a backer board as well.

Sleeping Cat in a House Etching with Mat

Small little etching of a cat sleeping in a house shaped print. The print inside the paper measures only 2 1/2"x2". Paper size is 5"x7".
I had this idea to make a house shaped plate at the end of the semester to do something whimsical after 3 months of more serious work. There is a little bird on the top looking down on the cat.
Several layers of lines have been etched on the plate for a very fine detail that you acn see in the closeup. (Remember the whole print is shorter than your finger.) After I finished printing I added just a hint of brown and pink watercolor to highlight the coat, ear and nose.
All prints are hand printed and signed by me. They come ready in 5x7" mats with a pentagon shape cut out to match the plate.

This print belong to a body of work that takes a look at animal behavior from a George Orwellian Animal Farm point of view. This is an original hand printed etching from an edition of 25. The chine colle gives the background the brown color, and watercolor was added for the red highlight on the robin's chest.

This listing is for an 8x10 hand drawn portrait. You can choose from color pencils, graphite, pen and ink, or oil pastel. Finished works ship flat in between boards.
I work from reference photos, that don't have to be professional. You can send me more than one (digital or paper), if for example one shows a better color and the other has a better pose. The best ones are taken with natural light.

An original hand drawn portrait makes for a very special gift or a real treat for yourself. I have been drawing for all my life and the joy and comfort that my portraits have brought to people is the inspiration behind my work. I mostly work with animal models, but will draw people as well.

Cute little chickadee print to liven up any room. I first printed them with black ink and then added the colors with watercolors. The print is on Rives lightweight paper, with a yellowish tint to it.

This handprinted linocut is from the endangered animals series. The idea with the series is to show viewers both well known wild animals that are endangered, like the polarbear and panda, and domestic animals that are on the brink of extinction. Many are unaware that there are hundreds of breeds of farm animals that are about to disappear because the current farming practices favor only a couple of breeds.

A humorous image of a dressage rider on a beef-bull.

This is a copper plate etching that has been handprinted by me on a 11"x 19" piece of Stonehenge paper. The image itself measures 6 3/8" x 5". The color of the ink is a beautiful transparent dark gray.
