Original, realistic relief carved Chickadee in leather by award winning wildlife artist. This piece is made from a single piece of veg tanned leather, cut, carved, detailed,burned and mounted on a spring-clip barette.
The leather is treated with softener during the carving process to make the leather pliable and mildew resistant. Artist uses scalpels to cut the leather, various leather and sculpting tools to raise the design for an amazing 3D look. The back of raised areas is filled in with a special leather dust mixture. To finish the sculpture it is painted with multiple layers of acrylic paint and finally sealed in with matte leather finish. The image is very durable and will stand up to exptensive use.

The limitation of the best photography does not do justice to the intricate detail in the carving and the color achieved in the artwork. This barette is an ideal gift for bird watchers.

This Black-necked Stilt is a 5" x 7" framed pyrographic artwork on leather split (sueded), a technique developed by the artist. The bird is then painted with acrylic paint and the whole artwork is sealed. The eyes and beak are treated with a special acrylic finish to give it a realistic, glassy look.

This is a very unusual One-of-a-kind piece. Stilts themselves are very delicate creatures, found in the wetlands. They are fighting a brave battle for survival every day.

The hoop is wrapped in leather, with mandella wool haning on the bottom. The mandella decorations include natural bone beads, wooden beads and feathers. Antonio Armadillo has completed his July modeling assignment. He has been 'dressed' up in a lovely turquiose shell with silver accents. He is wearing a coordinating black sombrero with silver hat band and accents. He has (as usual) just been to the dentist to maintain his sparkly white smile. As is the habits with armadillos, who have four offspring each season, there will be only four turquoise Antonio armadillos.

This armadillo is 3.5 x 3.5", carved out of a single piece of veg tanned, full grain cow leather. His faux turquoise shell is painted with acrylic paints. Antonio is ready to frame and add sparkle to your home.
