St. Francis Icon II, Fine Art Print, 11 x 14

$35.00
This is an icon of St. Francis including the Wolf Of Gubbio by Francis' side and a depiction of the burning bush, signifying the Saint's teaching about God's creation.

This image is available in other sizes and in greeting card format, which I will make available on Etsy on request. Just get in touch!

Next in the series: An icon of St. Hilda, an important saint to Anglicans and English Catholics. She was one of the prominent English abesses of the seventh century. Hilda presided over a joint monastery of men and women, and her prestige and influence as a church leader in her time were like that of a bishop--hence she is often pictured with a crosier like that of a bishop. This icon will be a full-figure one set up a lot like this latest Francis icon, with some interesting differences.

The odd title (as if my other titles aren't odd) was suggested to me by the sassy shape and the dark yet vibrant browns-yellows-reds of this wand.

St. Francis Icon, 11x14, Fine Art Print

$35.00
Fifth in a series of icons. The original is of cut paper and mixed media. St. Francis is shown with "the wolf of Gubbio," an animal associated with him in a famous legend concerning the saint. Other flora and fauna appear in the picture (some with specific traditional symbolic associations), as befits St. Francis and his celebration of the natural world as God's creation. Above Francis is a large image of Christ triumphant along with a banner with Jesus' words spoken to Francis in a personal revelation. The house cat looking out at us from the lower left corner of the picture was drawn by my thirteen-year-old son John, who likes to do comic strips.

As with my other icons as well, inquire about the print in other sizes up to 16x20

The originals are made of cut paper and mixed media. My inspiration is Byzantine iconography, and I like bold color.

The text across the top of the picture reads, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand"--the core of St. John's message. The figure gestures toward the cross he holds--as St. John pointed the way toward Jesus Christ. In the background flows the Jordan River, where John baptized. The border is made of blooms and foliage of the mustard plant, which Jesus used as a metaphor for the Kingdom of Heaven proclaimed by himself and John.

This print is available in all sizes and formats listed for my other icons, and in custom sizes--please inquire!

I am also open to commissions.
