I have been saving this teaspoon for years...one day a painting will come along. However, in the meantime, Tin Man popped in to the creative realm and demanded he be created with wild abandon and pure fun.

This piece was created using a black sharpie marker for the writing in the background, a hand carved potato stamp soaked in black acrylic paint - also in the background, charcoal, pastel chalk, and my beloved oil paints. The poem is an original piece of my work.

This is one of the few true Vintage Vaughn paintings, just hanging around, waiting for the right time to make his move.
This was part of a series revolving around "40". Yes, that means I actually turned 40 and turned that into a series of paintings. Got to make the most of it, right?

This guy is definitely old world style, with his cigarette, and his groovy neck scarf. A plaid shirt.... a bit of a perplexed look, and, of course, the speed limit sign behind him notating "40 danger" Wahoo!

A couple of interesting notes here...I rarely paint landscape / horizontal paintings, and this one started in oil on our last election day. The original inspiration was all about our freedom in this country, and patriotism. I have always felt passionate about being an American (as corny as that might be) although I usually keep most of those sentiments close to my heart. In any case, the painting was never finished....and now it has taken on a whole new life.

Origin of Flight is meant as an inspiration, how ever you might like to take it. Of course my bird Ozzie, the amazing Cockatiel, makes another guest appearance. Flying through the air with her curled ribbon, to unknown origins of peace....

No secret, the love of going back to a thick and luxurious style of painting rocks! Ok, well it was not intentionally planned, but this is the happy end result. I was painting along, and painting some more, and then became very disgruntled about the end result. So....that is when the cutting loose happens! I love it....when a plan comes together! I think they call that a happy accident...

The idea of the painting struck me when I heard these words: "She never really burned for me - not like I did, I really burned for her". The idea of the intense burn of love, the lust for all things associated with that flame, the ultimate sacrifice. All for the ever illusive love...

I wrapped wire around this canvas in an abstract style, then created the bird via charcoal, graphite and oil paint. A little abstraction, and perhaps a little distraction.

The style is intentionally relaxed, look closely and you will see a few variations, patches of pure canvas, and wire at times with paint on it.

Something just a touch different.
