I've made 3 sizes of spruce stamps, each size is different. This one is the Large. Very versatile, for backgrounds or textures. Our landscape is divided between spruce and birch/aspen. It was given I'd have to start off with some spruce stamps. A northern essential.

Wood block size is 1.75 by 4.0 inches.

I like used things.

Mountain Harebell - mounted rubber stamp

This tiny alpine plant produces a relatively enormous solitary blue bell. Really quite an effort. The scientific name is "Campanula lasiocarpa." It turns out the rubber stamp is very close to actual size.

Red Russula mushroom - mounted rubber stamp

I identified this mushroom as "Russula atropurpurea." These are very common in our woods in September. Russula have the distinct characteristic of being very brittle, they snap in half like a piece of chalk.

I have less experience identifying butterflies. I've always loved this one with it's bumpy wing margin. I think it's a Hoary Comma, "Polygonia gracilis." There is a tiny white comma located on the underside of the wing. Rusty orange in color.

This is one precise looking box. I'll admit that I am reluctant to part with it. The linen-colored book cloth is extremely thick, making the entire box feel very heavy duty. It is a bit less flexible than my usual boxes, but that's not a problem. The stiffness is only a function of the heavy book cloth. I had this particular book cloth around for years. Apparently it was waiting for the wonderful striped paper to show up. They are perfect together.

I consider this one of my unisex boxes. Sometimes guys are a bit hard to buy for. No reason you couldn't fill it with screwdrivers and pliers. I might just do that myself.

Snowshoe Hare backside (facing right) - Mounted Rubber Stamp

With our hare population near a peak in it's cycle, I schemed to lure one out into the open with some willow branches. To my surprise, it finally worked one day at around 9 a.m. with plenty of light to photograph from my upstairs window. I might have taken 100 photos and was able to develop two of them into stamp art.

The backside of a hare is available in two slightly different sizes, facing different directions. This one, facing right, is the smaller of the two.

A portion of my photo is shown for interest. Check out the huge foot. Looks kind of awkward so I left it off the stamp art.

These gray clouds make for a very unique box. When I saw this paper, I didn't hesitate. I'd never seen anything like it. The metallic flecks and silver and gold make it quite atmospheric.

Sometimes I pick papers because I think they would make great boxes for men in particular. This is one of those. Let's call is a unisex box.

This one was drawn while visiting my parents in Wisconsin. No identification. It was growing on landscaping bark. As the scales on the cap spread apart, they leave pure white between. I'm guessing it might be a Parasol mushroom (Lepiotaceae family.)

The red rubber stamp is adhered to a maple block with a red rubber cushion between. I've finished and sanded the block. I've printed the stamp's image on the top of the block with printers ink. My hope is to make these mounted stamps something of art objects in themselves. Nice to look at and hold.

Foliose lichens resemble foliage, or leaves. Stamps beautifully. Whese else could you find a lichen stamp? I hope to add many more in the future.

This must be proof that I draw what I'm interested in, and not what will sell... not really expecting a mad rush for that lichen stamp!

Requested by a friend. I designed this for such things as stamping reused envelopes and packaging. I'm finding all kinds of places that need such a reminder.

A trip to Africa last summer really clarified for me how much I waste. And how much more I should be able to do with what I have. Very inspiring.

I've made 3 sizes of spruce stamps, each size is different. This one is the Medium. Very versatile, for backgrounds or textures. Our landscape is divided between spruce and birch/aspen. It was given I'd have to start off with some spruce stamps. A northern essential.
