My mother loves Lupines, aka "Blue Bonnets." Originally, I took this picture for Mom and composed it (on the ground in some position that could only be called "photo-yoga") specifically with her in mind. It was yet another product of my attempts to give something back for all that she has given to help her children develop "strong wings" (whether she agreed with our chosen flight path or not).

Along the journey, this picture has acquired a second meaning for me. Vistas like this recharge my soul. They make me feel peace, vitality, inspiration, and in that moment, all is right with the world. The natural beauty of this world is one of the greatest gifts we're given and for that, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and an intense need to give back...to Mother Nature. I want to do what I can to draw more attention to our world's beauty and make sure it is well cared for.

To that end, I donate 30% of all profits from this photograph to the International League of Conservation Photographers and Project WILD, organizations working together to preserve our world's environmental and cultural treasures. The sun was shining so pointedly through the forest canopy, as if to draw attention to this lifeform. And the roots of this tree, looking so "hand-like" (and literally holding on for life) reminded me of how deeply interconnected we all are... and how much all life forms on earth depend upon and influence one another...

To that end, I will also be donating 30% of all profits from this photograph to the International League of Conservation Photographers, The WILD Foundation, and Blue Earth Alliance-- working to preserve our world's environmental and cultural treasures.
