I rescued this beautiful illustration from an injured copy of The Wonder Book of Animals for Boys and Girls by Harry Golding.

This illustration was done by Harry Rowntree and is signed at the bottom.

"Harry Rowntree (b.1878; d.1950)
In 1914, Harry Rowntree, a New Zealander, became president of the London Sketch Club. He was 'destined to become one of Britain's finest children's illustrators', and it 'has been said that it was his quirky little figures that set a style that can be seen in present day comics'. Other work that Rowntree designed included illustrated postcards, published from 1903-1917, eight full-colour plates for The King of the Golden River and other Stories, 1907, and playing cards depicting birds, for Waddingtons, in 1930. This dish is so pretty!

Stamped "Made in Canada 7088" on the back, I did some research and identified this as being made by Herta Gertz.

"GERZ ~ Herta, born September 18, 1913 in Hanau, Germany. Passed away March 2, 2005 at Richmond General Hospital after brief illness. A ceramic sculptor and designer, she came to Vancouver in 1952 with her ceramic engineer husband Walter. To her joy, the Vancouver Museum held a retrospective exhibition in 2004: "By Herta" featuring the works of BC Ceramics."

This is a piece from her Dogwood series.

Measures 9" on the diagonal at the widest point and approx. 1" tall at highest point.
The bottom is glazed with a lovely robin's egg blue.

Here's a sweet vintage pottery spoon rest from McMaster, made in Canada.

Here's some interesting history I found about the company:

"McMaster/McMaster Craft - Dundas, Ontario
Started in 1938 by Harry Jay McMaster, a native of Pennsylvania (USA) who had immigrated to Canada and was initially involved with Sovereign Potters, Hamilton, Ontario.

The business was continued by a son, Robert. Robert McMaster died in 1987 and the business closed in 1988.
Both white and red clay items were produced, the white (a commercial clay imported from the USA) being the earliest: A switch to local red clay was made in the 1950's."

This spoon rest measures 5.75" x 5" and has three little "feet" on the bottom.
It is stamped #21.

In very good vintage condition, there are two very small chips (pictured).

Gorgeous vintage 1950's illustrations featuring a comic strip style Goldilocks and the Three Bears illustrated story by Sabine Schweitzer.

On the reverse side there is a nice black and white poem/illustration called "Riddle-Me-Ree" all about birds and on the other page there is an illustrated story called "Nicholas and the Ferryman".

This was rescued from an injured copy of Robin Annual Number 7, printed in 1959 by Hulton Press in London, England.

This is a double page (four pages in total) and has been carefully removed to keep it all intact, there are small holes where the thread bookbinding was sewn.

Measures approx. 16" x 10".

In excellent vintage condition, suitable for framing or for use in collage and mixed media paper crafts.

This is such a darling vintage piece!
It is either meant to be a very short skort, or it's meant to be the bottom half of a bathing suit.

This sweetheart was made in Japan by Linda Mae, RN#35233. I had no luck finding the RN# online, it would be interesting to know the exact year it was made ;)
Fabric content is 77% Cotton and 23% Polyester.

Marked size 14, I'm guessing that's would have been a junior's size.
It is soooo tiny, but appears to have been taken in at the waist, so it's possible that it could be made a bit bigger.
Currently it has a 22" waist and 32.5" hips.
The total length is 12.25".

Fastens with a green metal YKK zipper and a button in the back, the front has four decorative pearly buttons on the side.

This piece is in excellent vintage condition, apart from the alterations that have been made.

I rescued this beautiful illustration from an injured copy of The Wonder Book of Animals for Boys and Girls by Harry Golding, printed in 1937.

This illustration was done by Lilian Cheviot and is signed at the bottom.

Lilian Cheviot was well known for her paintings of dogs, she was a British artist.

You will receive the original full page, not a copy. The back is blank as this was one of the full colour plates from the book.
