This is a smaller Three Trees painting using the vintage train ledger paper. I go through each page I currently have and find what would make the best combination for the trees. This specific three trees boasts a new process of painting. For this (and the other 2 like this) I painted the entire canvas one solid color and then layered from there. Traditionally I would start with a blue base for the sky... but I am branching out to explore new colors!

This specific painting boasts earthy nutty colors. almond hues, chestnut tones with a light cool violet blue sky. This would be perfect sitting on a bookshelf or desk, or hanging with a nice collection of eclectic items.

All paintings are varnished so they are protected from UV rays as well as dirt and grime. Sawtooth hanger on the back...sides are painted, no need to frame (unless you want to!)

this is a solid sterling silver bracelet, it is hand made by myself...
it has a hammer forged textured finish and is quite comfortable to wear and you don't have to worry about getting it on over your hands.....

bangles can often be problematic in fitting just the right size...
like a pair of nice shoes: fine jewellery needs to fit you as well...
this is especially true for bangles.... whats nice about this piece is that it has a clasp and easily opens and closes over the wrist...... so it fits a wide variety of wrists...

nonetheless i'm happy to make it to your specifications...

still a size for a young girls first piece of precious jewellery is a different size than for an older heavier person...... so let me know what you would like...

2010 Calendar - Photography

My goal for this project was to create a simple, beautiful, artistic calendar that was also completely functional and had plenty of room to jot down appointments. I love the results!

Each 8.5"x11" calendar page is printed on a thick, matte photo paper, resulting in rich, colorful photographs on a great writing surface. U.S. Holidays are included by default. If you'd prefer no holidays, please let me know in the order comments when you check out.

A clipboard, embellished with a label for the year 2010, is included with this listing, so you can easily hang your calendar on a wall, door, or corkboard. The clipboard also provides some great portability - you can move from room to room or even bring your calendar to a meeting.

This beautiful dragonfly wristlet/clutch is perfect for those days that you don't feel like, or need to schlep around a huge purse. Big enough for the essentials: wallet, keys, cell phone, etc. It would also make a really nice cosmetic bag.

The exterior of the bag is made with a beautiful cotton fabric with a delicate floral pattern. I hand drew the daindy dragonfly, transferred it onto various cotton fabrics, then appliqued it onto the front. The wrist strap is made with a beautiful purple paisley fabric which is also what lines the pouch. The zipper is a pretty sky blue color.

Inbetween the exterior and the lining, there is a layer of interfacing. This gives the bag some stiffness so that it keeps it's shape and can stand up by itself.

The measurements of this bag are as follows:
zipper- 8 inches
length from zipper to bottom- 6.25 inches
base of bag- 5.5 inches
wrist strap- 13 inches

Growing up in Bristol, Rhode Island we had a carnival every 4th of July. Bristol is a BIG 4th of July town. I've been to this carnival almost every year of my life. This is a photograph that I took of the ferris wheel this past 4th of July. It is Gocco screenprinted in black in on 8 pieces of lovely, textured cardstock. The set comes with 8 coordinating pool blue, recycled, pointy flap envelope. Columbian Emerald Freeform Pendant Necklace

This 25mm x 18mm Columbian Emerald pendant is the result of much work! Tumbled, then roughly hand-faceted and polished, it has turned out beautifully. The color is a deep emerald green with a touch of black matrix striated throughout.
the remainder of this piece was created with 4mm and 8mm tree agate, 6mm labradorite rondelles and sterling silver. The greens in this particular agate truly compliment the emerald!
Overall, this necklace measures 16 1/4 inches in length, (43 cm) not including the drop. The emerald dangles another 1 1/2 inches from sterling silver chain. It closes with a sterling silver lobster claw clasp. The matching earrings dangle about 1 1/2 inches from sterling silver ear wires.

this is a simple pair of sterling silver earrings; they are handmade by myself...

In making these earrings, a hand punched disk of sterling silver is first cut out and domed in a dapping block then hammer textured, patina oxidized and polished leaving darkened "craters" in this baby moon

they are 3/4" in diameter and the pair weighs 3.4 grams...

they are simple, fun and casual... so am I.

this is a pair of ear threads style earrings........
they are handmade by myself from stering silver;
at the end of the chain is 14 karat gold-filled wire the length of a sewing needle,
they are wrapped in 100% cotton embroidery floss/thread.

the threads are merely wound on-- spool style-- and it is my intention that they be only semi-permanent and are thus changable. Perhaps after a few years or so you acquire a new dress or other garment; then just wind on some thread of that color to make a harmonious outfit. In a couple of generations your granddaughter may do the same thing.

the overall length when hanging from your ear is 1.75inch/45mm.
they are very light and the pair weighs 4 grams. i have made two pair in differing colors....

if you would like a different color combination; i am happy to do that as well.... just tell me your preferance under notes to seller upon checkout...

this is a pair of solid sterling silver earrings handmade by myself...
these earrings are the same form but appear to be different when worn because the sterling posts are offset by 90 degrees....
you know same, same, but different....
why does everything always HAVE to be the same??
you can conform and still be different--- buy these earrings and show it.......

this geometric form is very contemporary in style while the hammer forging is very traditional in style--- its kind of like the best of both worlds ---except they remind me of the planet 'saturn' and not earth....

they feature a hammer forged texture in simple sterling silver but i'd be happy to do them in an oxidized darker finish or even a matt white fine silver finish but i think they look fine and forthright just the way they are.....

they are .65inch [17mm] in diameter and the pair weighs 2.5grams....

The Land used to mean something, it was earth and rock and crops and dust. It was the lifeblood to the farmer, it defined the family and society, it was a place to lie your head, it was the giver of food and life, it was the place where we die and are reborn again as the cycle continues. The land doesn't mean this too many people any more, and that is a sad thing.

This is a print made from my acrylic painting inspired by The Grapes of Wrath. There are excerpts from the book weaved into the painting and the brilliant colors and texture of the original painting are all present within the print.

All my prints are signed and numbered and printed professionally on Hahnemühle German Etching paper (310 g/m2) with archival pigmented ink. This paper has the subtle texture of an etching paper and a soft white tone. It is mould-made and inherently acid free and has appealed to artists for over 400 years. This is a heavy line of papers, giving the final print a substantial feel. Watermarks will not appear on the print.

Mixed media shadow box, 6x8". In Greek mythology the water bearer delivers forgiveness. This is one in the series "Times they are a changin." I really like this piece and chose it for the ArtsInRI team shop because, as the celebrations of the Autumn harvest and then winter solstice holidays occur, I'm always put into mind that we can't keep the flame of hope burning or achieve real peace without forgiveness. Isn't this albino blue jay the coolest thing ever? I love the texture of his feathers. Apparently the museum has several albino specimens, though the curator wasn't sure if the original museum founders actively sought them out, or if they were just coincidentally donated.

Here I cut a 25mm 22 gauge copper disc, and after hammering the bejeezers out of it, I oxidized and polished it back to a nice vintage look! I've added a 15mm bone hoop that is enhanced with deep cranberry and bronze freshwater pearls and several different sized bronze czech glass beads. It dangles on a pretty 18 inch copper chain (shorter, if you'd like)and closes with an oxidized copper toggle!

This a beautiful expressive-style print made from an original acrylic painting. Pale Earth is inspired partly by the Dark Tower Series. The painting include iconic elements like a horse and textured cherry blossoms.

All my prints are printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper (310 g/m2) with archival pigmented ink. This paper has the subtle texture of an etching paper and a soft white tone. It is mould-made and inherently acid free and has appealed to artists for over 400 years. This is a heavy line of papers, giving the final print a substantial feel. Watermarks will not appear on actual print.

About the Talisman Series:
"Talisman": a series of paintings featuring central images or objects that connect and resonate with books for which I had a significant emotional reaction. The books vary in subject and style--House of Leaves, Wizard and Glass, The Body, The Wastelands, The Grapes of Wrath. The images are often found months after I’ve read the book, but they take me back, like a talisman, to the emotional experience of the books. I am especially drawn to stories and images (House, Horse, Lantern, Train, Farm) that reflect the region where I grew up, the part rural, part industrial landscape so indicative of the Northeast US.

keum boo cone earrings

Here is a pair of cone earrings.... they are handmade by myself.....
They are light, dimensional, fun to wear and dangle like jack and jill's waterbucket.
They are made of pure silver (.999 fine silver) thats oxidized to a deep dark finish.
and pure gold (23.5 karat).
The earwires are 14 karat gold-filled.
They are aproximately 1.25inches[32mm] in total length and each one weighs 3.2grams.

What is Keum Boo???
Because of the similiarities of the two pure unalloyed precious metals they bond together well on a molecular level. It is an ancient Korean technique called Keum Boo or Kumboo. In the Korean language 'KEUM' means gold and the word 'BOO' means applied. This technique was originally used to line to inside of the eating spoons of the royality as it was thought to be auspecious and healthfull to eat from pure gold. I don't know but maybe some of these benefits can also be absorbed by wearing the earrings.

These earrings are made to order and the photos are very similar to the ones you will actually receive. This work is handmade by myself.....

i've tried to take photos at several angles, under various different lighting conditions and backgrounds in order to most accurately and fully represent this piece but if you would like to see other images or have any questions just let me know...

This skirt is made with 4 panels of lovely cotton prints, two dark blue, and two vintage paisley in. A beautiful green cotton print accents the two panels, and there are two large pockets, one on each side. Each pocket has a "peace terrapin" applique which was hand drawn and stitched on. There is a wide comfort waistband.

Hi there--
folks are always attracted to these type earrings and don't seem to understand they are made from bottlecaps; when i tell them they are generally surprised and reply with something like,
"wow, cool i didn't realize it"
well now you know....

this is a pair of earrings that are made from steel bottlecaps of peroni beer. they are formed, folded, and textured on the cobblestones in front of my studio. the caps are securely riveted onto a sterling silver disk. the handmade chain and earwires are also sterling silver.......

there are three ornamental cross bars just above the cap: one each of bronze, sterling silver and copper.

their total length is variable and i can make them with either earhooks [pictured] or post style ear wires...

they are very light----each one weighs about 4 grams...

they are handmade with love by myself..... each pair is individually made and ships in under one week of purchase....

This print is made from an acrylic painting, which came about because of a creepy coincidence. I was reading the book "House of Leaves" and one day I found a bin of old photographs in an antique shop. Lying on top was a picture of a house…and this house was EXACTLY how I pictured the residence from House of Leaves. I turned it over and on the back it was written “Like a Barnacle…it just grew….and grew…and grew.” And if you have ever read House of Leaves, you would know that the book is about a house that mysteriously starts growing. Sometimes it’s hard to believe it’s only coincidence.

All my prints are signed and numbered and printed on Hahnemühle German Etching paper (310 g/m2) with archival pigmented ink. This paper has the subtle texture of an etching paper and a soft white tone. It is mould-made and inherently acid free and has appealed to artists for over 400 years. In this handmade sterling silver plated square ring, I used glass tile and Jasper. The tile has a pearlized metallic backing in a really pretty shell pink. I surrounded it with Leopardskin Jasper cubes. The Jasper has natural swirls and spots of red, black, pink, gray and golds. Modern, bold and soft around the edges!

Square is 20mm.
The band is 7mm wide and adjusts to fit many sizes.

This hardcover blank book is makes a great journal or sketchbook. The front and back covers are made using a vintage map of Rhode Island from a 1935 atlas. The front shows Providence and northern Rhode Island and the back shows Newport and southern Rhode Island. The inside end pages are light yellow lotka paper. It has been handbound in a coptic binding with chocolate brown linen thread.

The pages inside are a mixture of different artists papers; different color pastel papers, regular sketch paper and gridded paper. This is perfect for the traveler who likes to use some watercolor paints or heavier sketching tools, but still fine for just writing. The journal is oriented horizontally making it perfect for capturing landscapes.

The journal is a nice size, 5.375" x 3.75" (13.6525cm x 9.525cm), and won't weigh down the traveler who likes to travel light. It opens to lay flat, making it super easy to use.

Centered in this mosaic pendant is a antiqued silver bead with a detailed rustic floral pattern. I circled that with turquoise heishi beads, then brick red ceramic tiles. These are actual glazed ceramic tiles, the smallest in the world! I love the imperfectness of them. Lastly I used more of the natural turquoise heishi beads. This turquoise is a nice clear blue with great matrix. A classic southwestern look of turquoise, silver and red! Grouted in black.

Round antique silver plated pewter pendant is 33mm.

The pendant is strung on a 24 inch silver oxidized flat cable chain with a very cool crescent moon clasp!

All pendants are created and signed by me.

This hardcover blank book makes a great journal or sketchbook. The front and back covers are made using pages from an old atlas showing a map of Illinois. The front shows Northern Illinois and Chicago, the back shows Southern Illinois. The end pages are light yellow lotka paper. There are 80 pages of 60lb white, unlined paper. This book opens flat to make for easy writing or sketching and in this new size and shape, at 5" x 5" (12.7cm x 12.7cm) it's an easy size to take anywhere and throw into your bag while you travel.

This is just my favorite hook! I found some paper with a birdcage design (pale yellow and white background, and dark brown silhouette of birdcages).

I was inspired to try something new (instead of using the paper under glass) so I cut out (by hand) the birdcages, and sealed them to a painted wood block.

And I love it!

Three white cup hooks hang beneath.

The pages inside are a mixture of different artists papers; different color pastel papers, regular sketch paper and gridded paper. This is perfect for the traveler who likes to use some watercolor paints or heavier sketching tools, but still fine for just writing. The journal is oriented horizontally making it perfect for capturing landscapes.

The journal is a nice size, 5.375" x 3.75" (13.6525cm x 9.525cm), and won't weigh down the traveler who likes to travel light. It opens to lay flat, making it super easy to use.

Can you guess what caught my eye about this particular collection of butterflies (from the collection at a local Audubon center)? It was that one tiny purple fellow, jewel-bright among his larger, dramatically patterned, gold and brown companions.

Part of my Natural History series, which documents the beautifully preserved specimens collected during the Victorian Era. These butterflies were actually collected a bit later in the grand scheme of things - during the Summer of 1936.

This hair comb was inspired by the blue sky above, with a few white clouds floating by.

This kanzashi consists of 1 main flower.
The piece is made of 20 pieces of hand dyed silk~ The middle features a very beautiful cobalt blue Swarovski rhinestone. This piece also features some pearly stamen.

The whole piece is mounted on an antiqued hair comb.

Each petal is folded individually and attached to a base using rice starch, and the back of the kanzashi is covered with a matching color 100% wool felt.
