Inspired by the owl in the nearby woods, rarely heard, more rarely seen, but thankfully there. It is always reassuring to know the wild things have somewhere to thrive.
The background is painted in watercolour and the image is inked and printed by hand using archival materials. The block is an original hand-carved design.

Hand-carved linocut, original design, hand-pulled print on original watercolour painting on Strathmore bristol.
This one is a three step process. The background is painted with watercolour, and the foreground image is printed on top with watersoluble printers ink. An additional application of Pearl Ex pigment adds an intense shine much like gold leaf. Due to the high shine expect the look of the image to change with the light.

Due to the high shine the scanned image does not show up properly so this had to be photographed. The photograph (1st image) shows the colours and shine well but the edges and proportions are slightly distorted due to camera limitations. The second scanned image is presented to show you the proportions and edges; however the colour and texture shown are inaccurate due to scanning limitations (scans do no show metallic effects properly).

Weeds or Flowers, it is a matter of definition. Here is chickory, wild daisy and Queen Anne's lace, growing by the roadside of 9th Line on Musselman's Lake, tall and stately and decidedly breakers of Whitchurch Stouffville By-laws. Rules be damned, these are beauties that should never be passed by without notice. They deserved their own group portrait.

It's shape, sounds, moods and moments are engraved in my soul, and very few days go by without it's image rising to the surface. Part of my soul resides there and it is no surprise that this scene comes to me time and time again.
