Initially this pastel drawing was titled "Creation" and I had plans on a second and third drawings, having the shapes evolve into more realistic things. Well, I got so involved with this one that the others really never got finished, and eventually, deciding that this one was good enough to stand on it's own, I changed the title.

This piece measures 18x24" and is done with chalk pastel on watercolor paper. I love the pairing of the lightest version of one color immediately next to the darkest version of another, and that is a commonality you'll see in most of my work. I love to use bright, bold colors and basic shaping. After spending too many years trying to become a perfectly skilled artist, I often opt to just have fun with it. : )

This is a painting I worked on for most of the summer and fall of 2007. In my artwork I try to focus on color and shape, and in this piece I wanted to use bright, bold colors and simple shapes. I titled the work "Lost in the City" because for me this girl represents someone who craves the excitement and chaos of a big city, but is just starting to find her way. She's a woman of great strength and determination, someone who will take the city by storm.

Woodblock Nude, pastel on wood

One Spring afternoon back in 2002, in the thick of art school classes and desperately needing a break from working with paints, I picked up a piece of wood and started drawing. I sat drawing all afternoon, clear past dinner, and into the night. When I finally looked up, and this is what I had drawn.

Inspired by a Chagall painting, this work features a women reclining in the nude. I used a wide variety of oil pastels on a thick piece of pine wood, measuring 11 x 12" and 1" thick. It has been displayed in the Short North area of Columbus during several Gallery Hops, and at the Madlab Gallery Women's Show in March/April 2007.

It's currently hanging via 2 screw eyes that are screwed into the top of the piece and strung with a piece of twine, but those can easily be removed if you wish to frame it intead.
