echinacea, or purple cone flowers are a native species plant to the eastern and mid western united states. they also have really pretty daisy-like blooms! i fabricated, then cast this large (3/4") echinacea seed head in sterling silver. they are hanging from sterling silver lever back wires.

technically, these are morning glory flowers i preserved, made a mold of and then cast in sterling silver. the actual flower, however, is most often referred to as "bind weed" because the vining foliage wraps around everything and anything...and tries to kill it! you can pull it out, dig it out, whatever, but once a flower bloom appears: you (and your garden) are screwed! it is almost impossible to get rid of because the more you cut it, the stronger it gets. so, i pulled it and cast it. the formerly white flower bud looks stunning in sterling silver. i mean, a rendition of it, (as they are a top seller, these are made to order) have graced the runway in new york as well as the renwick gallery shop here in washington, dc.trust me: these earrings are dazzling!

this is part of my "native species series", as the thornless honey locust is a native tree in the mid atlantic, as well as other north american regions. i collected this 4" long twig while out on one of my daily dog walks...i then lost wax cast it in sterling silver, soldered a pin back to it and oxidized it to enhance the natural texture of this branch. beautiful on a jacket lapel or the brim of your hat.

i have these amazing crocosmia lilies in my garden. their flowers are a shocking red, hence the name "lucifer". after the flowers fade, the bloom branches are left, so i cast them in sterling silver. they have a wonderful zig-zag pattern, perfect for the focal point of a necklace! the crocosmia lily branch is the center and the clasp of this beautiful piece, connected by a hand woven sterling byzantine chain. one of a kind, made by me, all of it.

i made this 71/2" bracelet from amazing chinese green/bronze freshwater pearls. i drilled each pearl's hole to fit a very thick oxidized sterling snake chain with beautifully wire wrapped ends. i stamped the flower-shaped clasp through a die (i also made) with my 20-ton hydraulic press. it is hand textured and oxidized. gorgeous!

i electroformed a crape myrtle pod into copper, oxidized it to bring out the textures, made a wire wrapped necklace bail with fused fine silver and hung it on a black satin cord from a copper jump ring. the copper seed pod is 5/8" x3/8"x3/8"; the cord is 26" long and is adjustable from choker length to a longer necklace. the ends have been wire wrapped in copper to prevent slippage. its like a punk rock bell...that doesnt ring. one of a kind.

to make these earrings, i first used my 20-ton hydraulic press to emboss a modern starburst-type pattern from an old fluorescent light lens into the fine silver. then, again using my press, i cut the aster woodland flower shapes with steel dies i made, drilled holes for the sterling french ear-wires and, viola: instant glam!

these look like pearls made from metal, but they are real freshwater pearls combined with oxidized sterling silver beads! i re-drilled each pearl so i could alternately string them with oxidized sterling round beads on a thick, 71/2"-long sterling snake chain with wire-wrapped ends. i stamped the sun-shaped clasp on my 20-ton hydraulic press from sterling silver i embossed. really pretty.

i found a tiny chinese lantern in my woodland garden, so i lost wax cast it in sterling silver and oxidized it to enhance its gorgeous texture. this seed pod measures about 1" tall (including the bail), 3/4" wide and 1/2" thick: small, but of substantial weight in solid sterling. i made a 21" custom chain from square wire i formed myself and then made into elongated ovals, which i soldered closed. really pretty and different. one of a kind...made by me.

the picture on the seed packs show chinese lanterns as dreamy orange poofs that happily decorate the garden. my chinese lanterns have never gone beyond a boring beige. so, i pulled them out. then i electroformed them in copper, made an amazing forged chain from sterling and copper and wore it! wow! the necklace is bold but light: electroforming allows me to get as much volume as i want without the weight because the lanterns are hollow metal. 16" long, one of a kind. super pretty!
