24" x 30" Original painterly mixed media painting abstract with figures.

The title of this painting was inspired by: A Kink's song and Margaret Bourke-White. Margaret Bourke-White was a pioneer as she was our first female photojournalist. She did a series of photographs of the Dust Bowl which reminded me of the sitting woman I painted seated in a chair holding onto a skeleton. Grisly? Perhaps. So was the Dust Bowl.

Two other artists came to mind as I painted this. They are Max Beckmann and Gustav Klimt. It has the dark, painterly quality of Max Beckmann and thematically is a bit like Gustav Klimt in his Friezes of Life. What I like about the subject matter in this painting is how it shows the circle of life and the vulnerablity of us all. I think this is an empowering aspect and will hopefully get the viewer---including myself---asking questions.

This painting has quite a bit of glazing on the surface.

I borrowed the title for this one from the Kevin Costner movie, "Fields of Dreams", which took place in an Iowa cornfield.

I enjoy the wonderful pastoral quality of the paint, colors and markmaking. Garlands of flowers flow throughout the composition, and a young calf can be found in the center of the picture plane. It is very pretty and I'm happy to share this with you.

The title of this painting was inpired by a shape I found in the image which I decided looked a bit like Illinois. I like the warm and inviting colors in this painting and it reminds me of the years I lived in Illinois---with all of the warm and inviting people I met.

P.S. You say you don't see Illinois in this one? That's just fine, as long as you root for the Cubs. :)
