We will create, to your specifications, one whimsical pendant~ Please purchase this listing in order for us to begin work on your custom pendant!

There are two types of custom pendants to choose from:

- Many people want a pendant with a certain feeling - you've recently become married, you want to mark a spiritual awakening - what have you. These are "artistic license" pendants. Please tell us what you would like the pendant to convey, and we will create the pendant with this in mind.

- The second type of pendant is a "specific request" pendant. You know exactly what you want it to say, you know what type of image you would like, etc. Just please keep in mind, when ordering a "specific request" pendant, that Glamourkins are created from antique fairy tale books, and we are limited to the illustrations we have on hand. You can give us a general idea of what you would like to see, but the illustration is dependent on the books we currently are using. Also, "specific request" pendants will not have words from fairy tale books, but rather the phrase will be printed out. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find some of the words in phrases that people request in fairy tale books.

The pendant will take seven to fourteen days to complete, depending on how many custom orders are currently ahead of you. If there is a rush (a birthday, an anniversary, a wedding), please let us know and we will do our best to accomodate you. :)

The mission of Glamourkin is simple: to bring enchantment to the mundane. It is built around the idea of the "glamourbomb," something that steps out of the bounds of the magical into the real world, thus bringing unexpected wonder and delight to all who experience it. Glamourkins are small, sweet pendants steeped in a message of whimsy, inspired by the fae.

Each pendant is unique: created with eco-friendly bamboo tiles and illustrations from antique fairy tale books, crowned with a crystal and blessed with good intentions for the one who is destined to wear it. Our Glamourkins cost little, because we believe everyone deserves magic.

These altered art pendants have been created to last a lifetime and are covered with two coats of a clear laquer, but please take care as they are still delicate art objects. Do not wear while in water or slumbering.

THIRTY-SEVEN: Through the earth, beyond

The journey was long but effortless, and Laluna found that Leon could keep up with her easily. He didn’t say much as they made their way down, down, into the earth, only mumbled from time to time, repeating Samantha’s name. Every time he spoke, Laluna’s heart broke a little more, so that once the stairs were evened out, and they were walking through a long, stone corridor, she didn’t know if she could bear the guilt anymore. But the corridor grew wider, until it was a tunnel through the earth, and then it grew wider still, until it seemed the entire village could fit across its length, and even the tree of Death would have been dwarfed by this expansiveness. And still they continued as the lights faded, dimmer and dimmer, and the corridor chilled, colder and colder.

Laluna stopped, heart beating hard, in the barely lit space, and Leon collided against her back. “Sorry,” she whispered to him, and he mumbled an apology back to her. “I thought I heard something…”

Another sound, as if gigantic paws were padding towards them, and then Laluna looked up and up and up as three heads came into view, gigantic heads suspended upon gigantic necks that met at a single body. It was a great three-headed dog, and it was snarling at the two of them, lips up and over teeth as long as her forearm. She breathed in and out and realized, suddenly, that she would probably die in the land of the Dead. The irony did not escape her.

THIRTY-ONE: The ghosts spin as if dancing

“Oh, Blackthorn, there will be nothing at that tree.” Laluna held the remaining cupcakes close to her chest upon the tray, her face glum. “This has all been for nothing.”

“So close to the end, and you’d give up now? Where’s that sass I love so much?” Blackthorn took her arm gently and steered her toward the edge of town. If she had not been so sad or angry at herself, she might have noticed that he stayed quite close to her, and when she tripped, he caught her before she could fall. He gazed down at the witch with an unreadable expression, though I may hazard a guess that it was quite kindly, and almost—if I may spoil so much—loving.

Leon trailed along behind, mumbling about flowers and Samantha, and if Laluna had been translating diligently, she might have also heard something about “brains.”

They finally reached the edges of the swamp. There, in the dark confines of tree and vine glowed will-o-the-wisps. As all manner of creatures and beasts were rejoicing on this All Soul’s Night, so were the creatures and beasts of the swamp. A stray will-o-the-wisp glided up to Laluna and Blackthorn, a globe of light at head-height, and bobbed up and down in front of them as if dancing. Laluna smiled, in spite of herself, and curtsied to the thing, which began to glow fiercer. Blackthorn steered her around it, and then they all stood before the tree.

TWENTY-NINE: There was a ghost of a cupcake

“If I…if I eat one of the cupcakes,” the vampire began slowly, smile spreading fully over his features, “wouldn’t that create…a ghost cupcake?”

“That is the singular most ridiculous thing –“

“Couldn’t he try?” asked Tom wistfully, and Laluna shook her head.

“For the love of Pluto,” she muttered, handing Blackthorn one of her last cupcakes. He ate it in two bites and licked his gloved fingers with relish. She sighed.

“Blackthorn, there is no ghost cupcake, and that was a horrid excuse to try and…”

“Wait,” breathed Blackthorn, and then he pointed to the mantel in the hall. There, sitting upon it on a lovely, transparent bit of china, was the cupcake. Tom drifted over to it and took it in both his hands, most lovingly.

“Oh, it has been too long,” he murmured, devouring it a bit messily with a dreamy look upon his phantom face. Laluna shuddered and swore she would no longer be disbelieving about anything. After the ghost finished eating the cupcake, he, too licked his fingers clean and then smiled.

“I will help you, dear girl. That is the best thing I have ever eaten. You have quite the talent.”

“Thank you,” she murmured faintly. Blackthorn would not stop grinning. She couldn’t help smiling a little, too.

TWENTY-SEVEN: Quest for a ghost

Together, the three headed towards Blackthorn’s castle. It was really just an oversized house, but the two small parapets had given it enough credibility to be called “castle” by the last mayor of the town. It had eighteen rooms, but Laluna had never seen any of them. Blackthorn’s parents never saw eye-to-eye with Grandmother Nell, and Blackthorn and Laluna were more of less forbidden from seeing one another. They always managed to do it, anyway, hanging out with Harry in the cemetery and coming up with nefarious nighttime plots that involved apples and the town well. Laluna smiled at her memories as Blackthorn invited her through the front door and into the great hall.

It was a very nice place, and Laluna told him as much, holding her cupcakes unsteadily in tiring arms. It wouldn’t do to get frosting on this lovely imported carpet.

“Old Tom!” Blackthorn called into the darkened house. “Are you here?”

“I was just about to go out… It’s the Witching Hour, my boy!” And there was Old Tom, looking gaunt and see-through in the hallway. He wore a tweed suit and had a monocle against one eye, which he was forever adjusting. Laluna curtsied.

An argument seemed to die upon his lips after spotting the witch. He took one of her hands in his ghostly grasp and kissed it, smiling. “My dear, I do apologize. I did not see you there…”

“Tom,” she began, then, coughing a little, said, “Sir Tom, could you please help us? We are looking for Death. We asked the gargoyle at the church, and the stone angel in the graveyard, and the angel said that only you might know where Death is.”

TWENTY-FIVE: The deepest heart of the graveyard

The town was not very large, and it did not take long for them to reach the cemetery on the edge of it. Leon stared longingly at his empty grave, and that’s where they left him for the moment, gazing into the dark hole of it. Laluna could not help it – she felt her heart breaking with guilt, but she screwed up her courage, and together, Blackthorn and she found the deepest heart of the graveyard, and there waited the stone angel.

“I do not think,” Laluna said slowly, staring up at the lovely winged woman towering overhead, “that she’s ever spoken a day in her life…”

“Beg pardon?” the statue twisted a massive head toward her and bent down. Laluna took several steps backward, nearly stumbling.

“Sorry, madam,” she stammered, as Blackthorn chuckled. “Um. We were sent by the gargoyle atop the church…”

“Maddening little fellow, isn’t he?” asked the angel, smiling. “Never shuts up.”

“…Right,” said Laluna, frowning and trying to gather her thoughts. “Can you help us? He said that he did not know where we could find Death, but that you might.”

The angel gazed off at the gravestones below her for a very long moment. Then she said, truthfully, “I am sorry, child. I do not know where to find Death. The only thing I might know is who might know…”

“Can you tell us?” Laluna asked in one quick breath. The angel gazed down at her as one might regard a cute romping kitten.

TWENTY-FOUR: This otherworldly light

It chewed for what seemed like ages, as the vampire, witch and zombie watched expectantly, and when it was done, it fluttered its eyes with bliss. “Delightful…sinfully delightful. But,” it said, licking its lips. “I cannot help you.”

“But you SAID you would!” Laluna was hot with anger. The gargoyle continued to smile.

“I said that I cannot help you…but I know who might be able to. The stone angel in the cemetery at the edge of town was created from the same quarry as me, but an hour earlier. She is the oldest…thing in the village, and if she does not know Death, no one else does.”

“A stone angel? She is a statue and can’t …” began Laluna testily, but she fell silent when the gargoyle glared at her again. “Oh. Well. Yes. I suppose, on All Hallow’s Eve, she might…”

“All Hallow’s Eve, my left foot! She can speak at any time, if you ask her nicely enough. As can I, though if this is the thanks I get…”

“Sorry, sorry,” said Blackthorn, leading them all back from the disgruntled stone creature. “Thanks ever so much for the information!”

“Welcome,” it grumbled, and — as they made their way (slowly and with poor balance, in Leon’s case) down the stairs, he called after them, “Don’t be strangers! A cupcake would make my day, if you thought to bring one on occasion!”

TWENTY-THREE: She charmed the gargoyle

The gargoyle cleared its throat (which sounded like rocks being tumbled together), and, after a moment, Laluna realized it was preening itself. She chuckled but silenced quickly when it glared at her.

“Perhaps I know of Death, perhaps I know not… What would you give me for such an answer?”

Blackthorn and Laluna exchanged glances, and then Blackthorn stared pointedly at her tray of cupcakes. She wrinkled her brow. “No, I can’t. What will I take to the witches?” she asked, but the vampire simply shrugged.

“Will you make it to the ball at all if we don’t take care of HIM first?” he jabbed his finger at Leon, lumbering up the last few stairs. The zombie still had the mourning wreath ringed around his neck, and he was still moaning softly. If Laluna concentrated, she could make out the melody of an old marriage song in his hum.

She sighed, resigned.

“Would you take a lemon cupcake with violet icing and sprinkled with candied violets?” she asked the gargoyle, smiling prettily. A wide-toothed grin was the only answer required, and she placed the pastry right in front of its stone paws.

“In the mouth, girly,” the gargoyle demanded impatiently, and — biting her lip — she dropped the sweet into eager stone jaws.

TWENTY-TWO: Wake the gargoyle

The gargoyle’s back was turned to the pair, but when she addressed it, it swiveled, revealing its sour cat face. Much to Laluna’s amazement, it opened its sculpted eyes and blinked at her. It was made of stone (perhaps marble) but moved like an animal. It had the face of a cat, the body of a bird and the feet of a bear. “Of course I can hear you, girl,” it croaked in a tone of gravel. “What could you possibly want? I was sleeping.”

“I apologize,” said Laluna, looking to Blackthorn. He merely shook his head and smiled. “But, you see…well, we’re looking for Death.”

“…and since you are, noble gargoyle, the oldest object, thing, person in our village, we thought you might be able to help us find him,” added Blackthorn smoothly. He could charm the teeth off a serpent, mused Laluna, stubbornly ignoring the racing palpitations of her own heart. Still…she couldn’t help wondering how the vampire felt about her. Was she just a friend to him? A pal? Did he only hang out with her for her cupcakes? Or was there maybe, possibly…perhaps something more…?

TWENTY-ONE: Beyond the otherworldly

It took longer than anticipated to climb all three hundred steps, and by the time she’d reached the bell tower, she had one hand gripping the cupcakes precariously and the other clutching her tight-laced corset. She should never have worn it, she thought ruefully, as she began to make a circle around the bell. Silly fashion, and trying to keep up with it. Breathless, she ran right into Blackthorn as she came back around the bell, face colliding with his chest. She inhaled sharply, and the scent of leather and stardust made her head spin in dizzy loops. She apologized and backed away into the shadows, hiding her flushed cheeks.

“Fancy running into you here,” he smiled, smoothing down his cape.

“Why are we here?” she asked him, wearily. She could hear Leon making his shuffling way up the steps, zombie moans preceding him. It would have been frightening if she couldn’t translate his swearing.

“We are here to talk with that guy.” Blackthorn pointed to a tiny stone gargoyle perched at the edge of the bell tower.

“Oh.” Exhausted and desperate, Laluna was open to anything, however silly. So she stepped up to the gargoyle, waved a hand in front of its unmoving eyes and whispered, “Hello? Can you hear us?”

EIGHTEEN: Nearly witching hour

“All right. Let’s think this through. Harry said to put him back.” Blackthorn paced around the zombie, who still stood, statue-like, looking rather wistful. “Could we take him back to his grave and nail the coffin shut and bind it with chains and…”

Laluna shook her head, gaping, horrified. “He’d be awake for eternity, then, trapped, muttering Samantha’s name.”

“Ah. No good, then.” Blackthorn tilted his head, examining Leon thoughtfully. “I wonder if he’s like a vampire. You know, just needs to be decapitated and…”

“BLACKTHORN,” said Laluna, even more horrified. The vampire was smiling, teeth bared, but fell silent.

“Stars, and moons and galaxies.” Laluna cradled her head in her hands. “I haven’t the faintest idea how to fix this. Oh – what time is it?”

Blackthorn glanced down the road at the church clock tower. “Eleven-thirty.”

“Nearly witching hour,” she breathed. “If I’m missed at the High Witches’ Ball, do you know what will happen?”

“No,” admitted Blackthorn, interested.

“My license will be revoked.”

“What license?”

“My Witchery license.” Laluna began to bite a fingernail. “And that means that I’ll have to close Ye Olde Potions, and that means that I’ll have disappointed my grandmother, and her grandmother, and her grandmother…”

“Who says you’re not going to the ball?” Blackthorn proffered her his hand. “I’ll watch Leon, and you can go.”

“You don’t understand.” She stared at his fingers for a long moment before clasping them with her own. His skin felt cold but comforting. He helped her to her feet as if she were made of feathers. “What has been done tonight can only be undone tonight… If we fail to undo the spell now, it will remain in place forever.”

“Huh.”

They both turned to look at Leon, still standing, still staring, still smiling. Laluna shivered, not from the temperature.

SEVENTEEN: Wander into forest

“What am I going to do?” asked Laluna. No one answered for a long, endless moment, until at last Harry said:

“You’ve got to put him back.” He spoke each word carefully, as if sounding them out. “If you put him back, the magic will stop, right?”

“I don’t know. This is all very new.” She was almost in tears again but looked up at the stars and the moon and tried to think about cupcakes. “I’m no good at ANY of this. Magic. Pfft!”

“Stop being so hard on yourself,” said Blackthorn, removing a black handkerchief from his sleeve and handing it to her. Delicate white bats were embroidered along its edges. “We’ll sort this out. Don’t worry.”

Harry shook his head, “I’m sorry,” he said around pointed canines, “but I’m going to turn soon. I’ve got to go through the woods tonight, with the rest of the pack.”

“That’s right,” said Laluna and Blackthorn together. It was customary for werewolves, like witches, to gather together on this strange night. Vampires, however, were solitary, for the most part.

“Happy All Hallow’s, Harry,” offered Laluna with a watery smile, wondering if she would make it to her own gathering at all.

Harry did not say what they all knew he wanted to say: “Good luck… You’ll need it.” He simply pounced away into the forest on hands and knees that became paws as the trees closed around him. His lupine back looked apologetic.

“I’m sure he wishes he could stay and help,” said Blackthorn, “but never fear: I’LL help you.”

“Thanks,” Laluna sighed.

FIFTEEN: This wicked night

Laluna held her cupcakes before her, and Leon stood on the doorstep, and she was uncertain as to what to do until she heard voices. The village tavern was quite close, glowing with pumpkins in the window and — as was usual on any night, not just All Hallow’s — there was an off-tune song making its way out into the street. Following the song came two staggering gentlemen, weaving through the door as if the world spun.

“Oh, curse ME,” Laluna muttered again, for it was Blackthorn and Harry.

“Laluna!” cried Blackthorn in surprise, straightening up and bowing. He was dashing and roguish, dressed in black (right down to his black leather gloves and his floor-length cape) and entirely too handsome to be human. Because he wasn’t. He grinned, showing a pair of wickedly pointed teeth, and tilted his head at Laluna’s scowl. “Now, now, no greeting for your favorite vampire?”

“I’m not in the mood, Blackthorn.” She sighed and turned away from the inebriated boys. Harry came forward and sniffed at the cupcakes, hands covered in lupine fur.

“Don’t be hard on him, Laluna…” he said, with a face as hopeful as a puppy. “Are those cupcakes for us?”

“Hardly,” she said to the werewolf, with a sourness she did not really feel. They had been friends since childhood, Blackthorn, Harry and Laluna, and she did not have the heart to tell him no. “Here,” she said, then, handing him a buttercream cupcake with a tiny chocolate piped bat. “Enjoy.”

“None for me?” asked Blackthorn, fine black eyebrows raised, and then she sighed again and handed him one, too. It made the strange night seem almost normal.

That is, until Leon moaned.

FOURTEEN: Love's path dark

She kept pace with him while he shambled up the street. Any villagers out and about nodded at her with a smile, and the masked children danced around them both, and everyone commented on what a good costume he was wearing until they got a bit too close and could smell him. Then they wrinkled their noses, glanced at Laluna’s cupcakes with a look of confusion and bid her good evening. Laluna shook her head and shadowed Leon until they arrived at Samantha’s house. The windows were pitch black, and she would bet her pointy-toed boots that the girl was, just now, peeling an apple for its core.

“Samantha!” called Laluna, and when no one came to the door or window, she took up pebbles and began to throw them at a pane. Still, nothing. So Leon knocked at the front door – loudly.

Samantha threw open the second-story shutters and peered down at her visitors. What was a soft smile faded into an expression of surprise, and fear, and loathing.

“What is that…thing?” She spit out the words like seeds.

“That THING,” said Laluna heatedly, almost losing grip of her cupcake tray, “is here because YOU are an idiot, and you used the potion inappropriately!” It could be the only reason, and the fleeting look of guilt on Samantha’s face confirmed it. “What did you DO, Samantha?” cried Laluna.

“I did nothing I am sorry for!” she called down, then grabbed both her shutters, “and that thing has nothing to do with me! He is YOUR problem!” She slammed the shutters closed and bolted them. Both zombie and witch heard the iron drawn, and then there was silence from the house. Laluna looked at Leon.

The moment Samantha had opened the window, he had raised his flowers to her. Laluna believed it to be the saddest thing she’d ever seen. He still stood, staring up at the shuttered window, flowers held high over his head as an offering to the love of his life. Or…death.

“I have done something horrible,” said Laluna slowly, the whole truth dawning over her like a cold sadness. “And I do not know how to undo it.”

“Do you think she likes me?” Leon turned to her with hope sketched upon his slightly rotten face.

She did not know how to answer him, so she said not a word.

TWELVE: Strange things happen on Hallow's Eve

“Leon?” she faltered, and then, again, incredulously, “LEON?” She dropped her broom but had the presence of mind to keep hold of her cupcakes as she ran into the street. Strangely enough, there was no one else around.

“Mmmm,” said Leon, in what is characteristic zombie-speak for “Hello.” As she understood animals, Laluna also had a talent for understanding Zombie.

“Leon, what are you DOING?” she hissed, as a light snapped on in the opposite house. But no one came to the window, so Laluna darted before him and made him stop. Or…not so much stop as very slowly change direction. He had a wilted wreath of dead roses decorated with a white satin ribbon that spelled out “Mother” looped around his neck, and in his decaying hands, he held a bouquet of withered flowers, weeds and a thistle.

“I’m going to visit Samantha,” he asserted in Zombie, much to Laluna’s dismay.

”Whatever for?” she asked, hoping against hope that his answer would not be what he said next.

“Because I am completely in love with her,” he said with much conviction. Or as much conviction as he was capable of. It came out a bit slurred.

“Oh, dear,” said Laluna desperately, the enormity of what had happened beginning to dawn on her. “Oh, dear, oh, dear, oh, dear.”

ELEVEN: Twisting fingers toward a dark sky

She was nervous and had gotten ready much too soon. But she dusted off her broom (coughing a bit in the grey cloud that produced) and checked the cupcakes for the fifth time, shooed Nuit off the counter for the eighteenth time, and did a little nervous dance in the entryway in time to her grandmother’s music box. It was much older than she, and its tune creaked like the house as the Halloween winds pushed against the walls and windows. A tiny witch twirled inside the music box to the melody of “The Witch’s Reel,” a halting, haunting click of notes. When the song ended, Laluna curtsied to herself in the mirror, then stood and stared. She looked lovely; she could not argue against that. Her dress was dark and fitted, her boots were tall and shapely, and the little hat surrounded by lace was cocked at a jaunty angle atop her red curls. Maybe, just maybe, she would make a good impression at the High Witch’s Ball.

But somewhere in a graveyard, dirt began shifting over a fortnight-old grave. A potion had found its mark, and the mark began to stir. Twisting fingers toward a dark sky, the man – or what had once been a man – began to rise, upward and upward, inch by inch, until a hand clawed fully free of the earth. The crow shook its head again, and again screamed “Danger!” but no one was listening, not even Laluna, in her house, twirling to a music box much older than she. No one listened, no one saw, no one knew, and that is how Leon came into the world again… To silence, to darkness, a zombie came.

Zombies do not walk so much as shuffle, and this zombie was very much new at zombieing and shuffled very slowly, so just as Laluna came out of her house with her cupcakes and her jitters and her very ancient broom, she did not have time to turn around and lock her own door, for there was a zombie shuffling down the street, and, to her horror, she recognized him.

NINE: Dancing down the dark

It was only after Laluna wished her old school friend a Happy Hallow’s Eve, after she shut the door behind her, after she made her way into the kitchen to check on the state of her cupcakes (Nuit was a bit of a fiend for sugar), that Laluna realized that Samantha had not paid for the spell, had not even offered. “Ah well,” she thought, shooing Nuit off the counter and patting down the corner of icing on the farthest cupcake he’d nibbled off. “It’s probably best.”

But magic that is not repaid in kind, the sort that is given without balance, is not the sort to do. If Laluna had read her grandmother’s Mistress Grimoire in its entirety, she might have known this…but she had not, so she did not, and this is why the night would follow as it did. Badly.

And if Laluna had not been so busy getting ready for the High Witch’s Ball (which began at midnight, appropriately, the Witching Hour), she might have been curious as to why Samantha did not go straight home. Why Samantha, in fact, made her way to the town graveyard. The sun had set an hour ago, and it was very dark as she wove between the headstones, heart thundering against ribs and breath escaping quickly from her throat. She had been so brave and bold about all of this earlier, when her friends goaded her into asking for the witch for the spell, but now she was not so certain, and – in fact – was more than a little nervous. Samantha was afraid.

EIGHT: She echoed like a heartbeat

The house was dark and cold and lonely, but Laluna lit some candles, dragged out the biggest cauldron and set to work. Love spells were simple, really, which was part of the reason they were forbidden. But this one would help a grieving, heartbroken girl get over an unrequited, impossible love… Surely there must be an exception to the rule, in this case.

Halfway through making the spell, Laluna slipped into her best dress (the black one with the silver buttons and the corset), and three-quarters through, she put on her formal witch’s hat. And when she was done with the spell, she poured it into a thin red bottle and stopped it up with candle wax and a drop of tea (she thought the use of blood a bit antiquated) and stared into the murky contents with an ill-beating heart. The potion simmered and glowed within the bottle and – she might have sworn that it winked at her!

She was making her way, uneasily, to the front door when the knocker sounded, echoing like a heartbeat throughout the big, empty house. “Hello?” Samantha’s voice called sweetly. “Laluna, are you there?”

“I’m here.” Laluna opened the door and invited the excited girl in. “And here is the spell you asked for.” She handed the vial over. Greed lit up Samantha’s face. “It’s for dreaming…right?” she said quickly. “You won’t use it for any other purpose --”

“Of course,” said Samantha, patting Laluna’s hand. “Don’t worry a bit. I’m going to place it on my bedside table, and then I’m going to peel an apple, just like the old folk magic suggests.” She nodded, face blissful. “And then I’ll have sweet dreams of Leon all night long.”

“That’s…good,” said Laluna, a bit relieved. “I hope it…I hope it all works for you.”

“It will,” said Samantha, with a winning smile. “Thank you. Thank you very much.”

FIVE: A bite of apple, mischief made

“Can you do a favor for an old friend?”she murmured. Her perfume caught in Laluna’s nose, roses, fresh honey and a bite of apple.

“Perhaps?” said Laluna, hesitant. Despite the sickly sweet perfume, she was beginning to smell a rat. The old black cat Nuit’s back was arched, and he was looking quite disagreeable from his perch on the counter. Mischief gleamed in Samantha’s eyes, and both witch and cat could see it.

“Today is Hallow’s Eve,” said Samantha, stating the obvious. “All spells and potions are much more potent when used today… So I was wondering, could you make me a spell? A…love spell?”

Ah, this would be easy. Laluna smiled ruefully but shook her head. “I’m sorry, Samantha, it’s in the witch’s code. We are not allowed to create love spells.”

“Oh, this isn’t a typical love spell,” said Samantha, squeezing Laluna’s hands urgently. There was a hopeful look on her face, and more than a little nervousness. Laluna stepped back just a bit.

“What do you mean?” she asked.

“I mean…couldn’t you do a love spell if…well, if the other person didn’t…I mean wasn’t…”

“Samantha, whatever are you talking about?” asked Laluna, sharp dread stabbing at her heart.

”Well,” the blonde girl said, all in a rush, eyes bright as fire on water, “supposing the other person were dead?”

Laluna opened her mouth and closed it in disbelief, sat down on the closest stool and then, simply, listened.
