Look back into the recesses of time with this one of a kind necklace. Two rectangular pendants of limestone filled with crinoid fossils hang in amongst herringbone strands of a gray-themed mixture of seed beads. Beaded beads surrounded by ocean jasper are scattered throughout the herringbone strands, and a strand of seed beads, bugle beads, and more jasper play in and out to create the final full look.

This OOAK necklace was created for the EBW April challenge, themed "Time Machine." What is more of a window into the past than rocks and fossils? The limestone pendants tell of an ancient marine environment, where crinoids grew abundantly. Ocean jasper, a variety of orbicular jasper, speaks of a more fiery past where quartz or feldspar crystallized into radial aggregates in volcanic rhyolite or tuff. This OOAK regal white choker was created for the Etsy Beadweaver's December Challenge, themed "Snow Queen." Three frosty iced flowers grace the neck, with icicles of white beads cascading below. A variety of clear, silverlined, and opaque white beads were used to create the icy feel of this choker. Techniques used include herringbone, netting, and coraling. The flowers and icicles were hung from a sterling silver lined memory wire choker, strung with silver-lined seed beads.

Perfect for that special holiday party!

Memory wire creates a 'one size fits all' choker. The full length of the wire used is 20 inches. No clasp is needed with memory wire. The icicles hang up to 4 inches below the choker, and the flowers are each 1 1/4 inches in diameter.

Sunrise Temptation

Give in to it, allow the radiant hues to wrap themselves around your neck! This OOAK (one of a kind) collar features mixes of reds, yellows, and purples/blues to create the image of a sunrise. Sunrise represents the beginning of a new day, and the promise of starting over. Sunrise tempts you to forget yesterday's mistakes, and tempts you to make today glorious.

This collar is woven in herringbone stitch, and a fringe of earthy, green, and blue glass, ceramic, stone, and metal beads hang below a row of coral, which represents the horizon. The centerpiece of the collar is a large handmade (by me) polymer clay bead, reflecting the same colors as the seed beads. Sunlight radiates from the center, aided by gold and purple colored tube beads inlaid in the polymer clay. The top of the collar is lined with little wooden beads from South Africa. These rise 5 inches (13 cm) above the bottom of the fringe. As a closure, two bone beads (also from South Africa) are topped with orange polymer clay swirls. This collar represents nearly 20 hours of creativity. Watching it grow was a wonderful process!

Two netted rows extend from the opposite end of the collar, with twelve different loops on each, any of which can be connected to the bone beads for the closure. Because there are so many loops, when closed this collar can be anywhere from 14.5 to 23.5 inches (37 to 60 cm). This allows the collar to be wearable by people with a wide variety of neck sizes, and in a number of different fittings. At the narrowest, it will wrap close around the neck and at the widest the main bulk sits down on the collarbone. You'll love the versatility this collar provides.

Stained Glass Belt

This unique belt was created using a variety of colors of Toho seed beads in the round peyote stitch. The assortment of colors are framed by a matte black to create a diamond stained glass look. Three strands of brown suede pass through the center of the peyote tube, and are braided on either side with a knot at the end. The belt is closed by tying the braided suede.

The belt is a total of 5 feet long (1.5 meters), making it long enough for most waist sizes - the difference will be in how much of the braid hangs below the knot. The beaded section is 17 inches (43 cm) of the length.

I used 8 lb fireline for the beadwork for extra strength and longevity. However, I recommend not placing too much pressure on the belt - its use is primarily decorative. Use the belt as an accent over a dress or long shirt, wear it with your favorite pair of jeans, or some other way you can think of! The variety of colors allows it to match almost anything!

Created for the Etsy Beadweaver's October challenge 'Animal Insticts', this necklace features a menagerie of wooden giraffes, leopards, lions, and zebras playing among the fringe. These beads, along with the other large wooden and bone beads, came from South Africa.

This necklace began with a length of peyote-stitched beads, to which a small net was added and then an explosion of fringe. The closure is a beaded loop and a large bone bead. Along with the wooden animals, there are a variety of bead, bone, glass, and stone beads embellishing the fringe. The fringe hangs up to 4 1/4 inches below the necklace. The necklace is approximately 23 inches long.

Matte turquoise beads give way to silver-lined teal in this bright and narrow cuff. This cuff was created using Japanese Toho seed beads in the peyote stitch. A bright handmade (by me!) button of polymer clay acts as the closure, together with a beaded loop. You'll find the same turquoise and teal colors in the button along with a deep maroon, mustard yellow, and pearly white.

The cuff is 3/4 inches (almost 2 cm) wide, and the button is 1 inch (2 1/2 cm) wide, and just slightly longer than 1 inch. When closed, the cuff is 7 inches (17 1/2 cm) long, however your wrist needs to fit a 6 1/2 inch (16 1/2 cm) bracelet in order to fasten the closure. If your wrist is bigger than this (or smaller!) just convo me upon purchase with your sizing information, and I can easily resize it for no extra charge. If the cuff needs resizing, this will add some time to my processing time (generally no more than one day). I will let you know immediately when you can expect your cuff.

This original Njema necklace was created using green glass seed beads in the net stitch. Three netted circles were created, and then connected with strings of beads. It is finished off with a simple base metal s-clasp. The necklace is approximately 16 inches long, and the diameter of the largest circle is about 2 inches. A Midsummer Night's Dream Necklace

Warning: not for the faint of heart! This necklace WILL get you attention, all of the positive variety.

This elegant one of a kind necklace was created for the Etsy Beadweavers July 2008 Challenge, themed 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

The deep blues and greens are reminiscent of a night time forest, with beams of white moonlight reaching through the canopy. If I were a fairy, I would frequent this forest.

This necklace took nearly 20 hours to create, using thousands of seed beads. It began as a freeform netted collar, to which the fringe and other embellishments were added. The oval pendant is Labradorite - a variety of feldspar that glistens and changes in the light, while the green pendant is a river shell. The other embellishments are unidentified 'natural stones' with a tigers eye look. I have used a toggle style flower and leaf closure as a clasp. Fireline was used for extra strength and durability so you can treasure this necklace for years to come.

This necklace is approximately 16 to 17 inches long from clasp to clasp. The pendants hang 6 inches below the neckline of the collar.

That's right, it's a beaded bow-tie. Big, floppy, and striped with pink and blue beads, you're sure to make an, um, fashion statement. It can be men's wear with a suit (you KNOW you'll look awesome), or a woman can use it as a stand-alone choker.

This one of a kind piece was created using czech seed beads in the net stitch. The bow tie is attached to a striped beaded ribbon, to go around the neck. The closure is a set of four handmade (by me!) pink and blue polymer clay beads, and beaded loops.

The bow tie can be as narrow as 9 inches (23 cm) or as wide as 14.5 inches (37 cm) around, depending on which button you attach the clasp to. The bow itself is 5.25 inches (13 cm) wide and 4 inches (10 cm) tall.

This was supposed to be my entry for the Etsy Beadweaver's June challenge, with the theme "humor." However, I was thrown off by being on Mountain time, and didn't get it listed by the midnight EST deadline. This goblet was created for the Etsy Beadweaver's October challenge, themed "Super Power." You want super powers? Then drink from THIS goblet. Okay, okay, I know it's all make-believe (and I do not recommend using the goblet for beverages), but if I were a superhero, I would darn better have a goblet like this one! And you can *feel* like a superhero with this goblet on display, possibly even as a candleholder.

The goblet is 5.5 inches (14 cm) high, with a cup diameter of nearly 3 in (7.5 cm). The stem is wrapped in Japanese and Czech seed beads in peyote stitch, as well as the lower half of the cup. The upper portion was created using a freeform netting technique, and it is all topped off with a yellow/gold winding string of beads.

Triangle Pinwheels - The Bowl

I wanted to do something different. I've made lots of jewelry items, and I've made some pottery. Recently, I branched out into beaded belts. But this time, I wanted something other, and so this little bowl was born.

I created 18 individual peyote triangles, and then sewed them together to form the little bowl. You could use it to hold a few special large beads, shells, little wrapped candies, your rings while you sleep, or a myriad of other small and precious items.

The bowl stands just over 1 inch (3 cm) high, and has a diameter of 2 1/4 inches (6 cm). The rim is tubular peyote attached to the top of the bowl. This bowl features 37 different types of Toho seed beads. Each triangle contains 2 unique colors, plus the matte black outline. The gold for the rim is also used in one of the triangles.

While this bowl is well made with quality materials, it should be treated with care.

We all did this project in grade school, right? Draw a simple outline, then superimpose a grid over it, coloring in alternating shapes with complimentary colors.

Purple and gold Czech seed beads march up and down along this cuff in a fun zig-zag pattern in peyote stitch. At the end of the bracelet, the mountains overlap to create a small portion that is double wide. Curls in the Dark Vase/Jar

This wide-mouthed vase was wheel-thrown using Columbine clay, a very white, low grit clay body. Broad curls were painted on the vase using wax before the glaze was applied. This technique is called 'wax resist' as the glaze does not stick to the clay where the wax was. The wax burns out in the firing leaving areas of the vessel which show the natural clay body.

Metallic black glaze was applied to the outside, and Castille blue to the inside, with some drips down the outside. Where the two glazes mix, you get a play of colors similar to those you see in oil on the pavement.

The jar stands 4 1/2 inches (nearly 12 cm) tall, with a lip diameter of 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), and can hold up to 2 cups (1/2 liter) of liquid.

Food, boiling water, microwave, and dishwasher safe!

Scorpion Fish

Scorpion fish.. very poisonous and very beautiful. Their long striped fins waving in the ebb and flow of the warm Indian Ocean always caused us to back up in awe while snorkeling in the reef just off the coast of Kenya. This OOAK necklace imitates the long, flowing fins of these breathtaking creatures.

I created a herringbone (or ndebele) rope in striped silver-lined crystal and brown Czech seed beads. The fins are alternately made of peyote strips of the same beads, and handmade (by me!) strips of polymer clay. The polymer clay strips are striped with sienna and a silvery translucent color. These strips are flexible (not brittle), but should still be treated with care and not over-extended. A circular peyote toggle and loop make up the closure for this necklace. The closure is easy to fasten and unfasten, yet secure when closed.

The necklace is 17 1/2 inches (45 cm) around when closed, and the fins hang up to 3 3/4 inches (9 cm) long. The fins are approximately 1/4 inch (1/2 cm) wide.

This necklace was created for the Etsy Beadweaver's February challenge, themed 'Tropical Holiday.' As I grew up in Kenya, LIFE was tropical (after all, what's more tropical than the equator, which we crossed going between home and school). Every year, my family would spend nearly two weeks at cottages on the coast near Mombasa. A fringing reef was literally right outside the front door, and we spent many happy hours exploring and snorkeling. It was always a delight to see scorpion fish, though we definitely had a healthy respect for their poison!

This one of a kind necklace drapes elegantly, from the flaring loops at the top to the fringe at the bottom. Blue and deep red alternate along the length of the necklace. Czech seed beads were used in tubular herringbone to create this unique look.

Cascade was created for the Etsy Beadweaver's May '09 challenge, themed "Hollywood Red Carpet Creations." I wanted to create something classy and elegant, while still standing out from the crowd, for this challenge.

Cascade is 17.5 inches (45 cm) from the clasp to the bottom of the fringe. The center portion is 2 inches (5 cm) across, and solid. A brown focal bead folds the wide strip in half, creating a unique dimensionality to the piece. The clasp is a herringbone toggle and beaded loop. Each side of the necklace is 9 inches (23 cm) from the clasp to the top of the wide strip, where the sides meet in a v.

Raku Flower Jar

This jar was created using the raku technique, where the piece is glaze fired in a reducing environment with lots of organic material. This reduction turns the clay body black. The jar was wheel thrown with raku (high grit) clay, then altered to form the ruffled top and the points in the sides while wet. It was glazed with copper-rich raku glazes. On the outside of the pot, a glossy glaze was used, while the inside was glazed with a matte glaze.

This jar stands approximately 3 1/2 inches high and the rim is nearly 4 1/4 inches wide. It has a volume of 1 1/2 cups.

You can use the jar to display a single large blossom, a small bouquet, simply as a decorative piece in your house, or any other use you would like.

Caution: This jar is not food safe, although it would make a great dish for any wrapped candies!

Fun with Geometry Peyote Cuff

Zig-zagging stripes, triangles, and a wonky square make up this unique bracelet. To create this bracelet, I used shades of pink and green Miyuki seed beads in various flat peyote stitches. The wonky square gives the bracelet a added dimension for a little bit of fun. A beaded triangle button and loop act as the clasp on this piece.

The zig-zags are 1 1/2 inches tall from point to point, and the square is 2 inches wide, with the points rising nearly 1 inch from your wrist. This cuff is 7 1/2 inches long, a comfortable fit for a 6 1/2 inch wrist. While the size of this cuff cannot be changed, I am able to custom-make a similar cuff in a different size. Flaming Dip Bowl

This bowl was wheel thrown with the iron rich deep red Sandia clay, and then carved into with a repeating flame-like pattern around the body and the lid. It was glazed with Chun red glaze on the inside and the rim, dripping down the outside, and then glazed on the outside with iron rose glaze. The iron rose glaze has a fabulous copper luster. The lid sits neatly on the lip of the bowl. Inside of each flame is an unglazed dot, where the natural deep red of the clay shows through.

This bowl is approximately 3 inches (7 1/2 cm) tall with an extra 1 inch (2 cm) for the lid. The diameter at the lip is approximately 4 inches (10 cm), and the bowl can hold 1 3/4 cups (425 mL) of liquid.

This teapot was wheel thrown using Sandia clay - a very iron rich, high grit clay which is a deep red when fired to cone 6. The handle was hand-pulled of the same clay.

This teapot was decorated by carving, and then glazed using Chun Red and Iron Rose glazes. It was glaze fired to cone 6 in an electric kiln. The teapot stands approximately 4 1/2 inches (add 1 1/2 inches to include the lid) and holds 3 1/2 cups of liquid. Just the perfect size for sitting down to tea with an old friend!
