This votive candle holder was thrown on the potter's wheel and carved once the clay was leather hard. It has four hand-carved angel designs interspersed with two small stars all the way around.

The piece is almost 3.5 inches tall and 3.25 inches in diameter.

This dish would look great on your coffee or hall table!

It was handbuilt from a clay slab that was impressed with a Grandmother's lace and then formed.

I then used a blue stain to highlight the pattern and glazed in a clear glaze.

The dish stands on 3 small feet and is 1 1/2 inch tall. It has a diameter of 6 1/4 inches.

Carved Electric Lamp -- Peace Design

The light from this hand-carved stoneware lamp makes beautiful wall patterns!

This oval piece was thrown as a cylinder on the potter's wheel. Once the clay was dry enough to handle (leather-hard), the bottom was cut off. Then the cylinder was pushed into an oval shape and the bottom was stretched to fit that shape and reattached. A foot was then added. Then the carving process begins! Because mistakes can't be corrected, this is a very slow and deliberate process that can take several hours. Decisions must be made along the way regarding how much clay to cut and how much to incise (because cutting out too much of the clay may weaken the walls).

The carving on this particular lamp ("Peace" design)is of a bamboo stem and leaves, with the word "Peace" incised on the side. The lamp is 7 inches tall and the oval measures 4 inches across. It uses a snap-in socket and 4w or 7w light bulb (included). The glaze is a shiny white.

This chip and dip bowl will make quite the impression at your next get-together. Use it for chips and salsa, veggies and dip, or hummus and pita.

The bowl is 9 inches in diameter and 2 inches high. The small dip bowl contained within the larger bowl is 4 1/4 inches in diameter and 1 1/2 inches tall. The smaller bowl was added when the clay was dry enough to handle and was pressed to the sides of the larger bowl using a clay stamp in a criss-cross pattern.

The high-fire glaze on this piece ranges from green to black and includes golden highlights. The glaze is food safe and pieces can be used in the microwave and dishwasher. Golden Brown Serving Dish

This oval dish is ideal for a small casserole or hot dip. It would also look beautiful as a jardiniere to hold a small potted herb plant. The mouth of the dish measures 6x4, and it's not quite almost 3 inches deep, weighing 3 lbs.

The glaze is a luscious golden luster and the dish is accented with two handles with impressed decoration. It also has four feet that lift the piece off the table ever so slightly!

The glazes are lead-free and food safe and the piece is dishwasher and microwave safe; however, this is a one-of-a-kind piece so it would be best to handle it with the care it deserves. This stoneware box is ideal for all those small things that need a home: rings and other small jewelery, errant pennies, all those beautiful small pebbles you've collected, that candy you don't want to share...

This box was handbuilt from clay slabs that were previously impressed with a a piece of Grandmother's lace. Four pieces were then cut to make the sides of the box, which were carefully joined. Then, two additional pieces were cut to make up the top and bottom. When the piece was dry enough, I cut the lid and made the scalloped design to hold the lid in place.

It is 4 inches tall, 2 3/4 inches wide, and 2 1/2 inches deep.

What would you stow in this box? Carefully folded love letters, perhaps? Or more mundane things like jewelry or hair clips, or maybe candy...

This box was handbuilt from clay slabs that were previously impressed. Four pieces were then cut to make the sides of the box, which were carefully joined. Then, two additional pieces were cut to make up the ends. When the piece was dry enough, I cut the lid, added a gallery for it to sit on and pulled the corkscrew handle for the lid.

It is 7 1/2 inches tall to the top of the handle, and 3 1/2 inches deep. The feet are about 1/2 inch tall. The dimensions of the box are 5 3/4 inches by 3 3/4 inches. The lid is 4 by 2 1/2 inches.

This box is thrown in one piece as a closed form on the potter's wheel. Once it's dry enough to handle, I cut and key the lid and place the handle. The glaze on this piece is a translucent gray with tinges of blue.

Small Bowl

This charming bowl is almost 2 1/2 inches tall, 2 inches deep and the opening is 4 inches in diameter. While it might look small it actually holds 1 1/2 cups! It's an ideal soup, cereal or tea bowl, or it could be used as a trinket dish.

It was thrown on the potter's wheel and fired in a gas kiln. The glaze ranges from milky white to orange depending on the thickness with which it was applied and how it melted and flowed during firing.

Impressed Vase -- 13 inches tall

This tall skinny vase stands 13 inches tall and was hand-built from stoneware clay slabs.

After rolling out the clay slabs, I impressed them using several clay stamps and found objects. I then carefully formed the shape using a cardboard tube as support. The foot and neck were formed on the potter's wheel and added when the clay was a bit drier.

After the bisque firing, the vase was brushed with several glazes of various colors. After each application, most of the glaze was wiped off so that it only remained in the impressed grooves. The foot and neck of the vase were dipped in a golden brown glaze. The glaze firing was done in an electric kiln.

It is 7.5 inches tall and approximately 6.5 inches at its widest. The mouth of the bottle is 1 3/4 inches wide. It has an exaggerated throwing mark around the middle to give it some character and an indentation at the foot. It is glazed in a gorgeous iron red that breaks black on the rimes and turns gold where it flows more thickly.

Tall Textured Vase

This tall skinny vase stands 13 3/4 inches tall and was hand-built from a stoneware clay slab.

After rolling out the clay slab, I impressed it using several clay stamps and found objects. I then carefully formed the shape using a cardboard tube as support. The foot and neck were formed on the potter's wheel and added when the clay was a bit drier.

The glaze highlight the textured design.

Three of my daughters have wedding anniversaries within a few weeks of each other. So, this year, I thought I would make each of them some bud vases for a wedding anniversary gift. I made about a dozen small vases and as I looked at them all lined up, the idea of "together" came to mind. So I smooshed two of them up against each other and... there you have it! Together Vases! The girls loved the vases and they are small enough to hold the flowers that their kids bring them!

The taller of these two vases is almost 5 inches tall while the other one is 4 1/2 inches tall. They are about 4 1/2 inches at their widest part.

The dish measures a total of 6 x 5 inches from rim to rim. The inside area of the tray measures 3.75 x 3.25 inches. The glaze is a creamy, shiny yellow.

This piece is made out of a clay slab with supporting pieces of clay to form the rim (see photo of back of item). I then drop the piece on the floor from about waist high, causing the slab to flatten and the supporting pieces to create the rim area. The final step is to stamp it all around the rim with a clay or wooden stamp. I have pushed up part of the edges with a dowel in order to form handles.

This pitcher and tumblers set will look great on the breakfast table!

The pitcher is 6 3/4 inches tall and holds 4 cups of your favorite morning juice. The tumblers are 3 3/4 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide at the mouth; they hold 1 cup each. The pitcher's wide strap handle makes it easy to handle and pour.

Tall Triangular Vase

This triangular vase stands 15 inches tall and was hand-built from stoneware clay slabs.

After rolling out the clay slabs, I impressed them using a piece of old lace. I then carefully joined the three slabs to make the triangle.

The shiny black glaze was wiped off the sides to reveal the lace pattern. A clear glaze was placed on top, which turned the black glaze blue.

Baked brie is a quick and easy way to entertain in style. Simply place the brie in the baker. Top with your favorite topping and bake until the cheese softens. Here's one of my favorite recipes for topping:

This dish would look great in any room of the house. It can do serving duty in the kitchen and the dining room as a serving dish. But it can also look great in the living room (maybe with some candy or a candle surrounded by pebbles). In the bedroom it can do a great job of holding your jewelry and watch, and in the bathroom it can hold all those great guest soaps.

This piece was hand-built from a slab of clay using a mold. A clay stamped was used to impress a pattern on the ends.

This sweet little textured vase is 6 inches tall: the ideal size for a few blooms.

The long neck of the vase was handbuilt of textured stoneware, while the bottom and top of the vase were thrown on the potter's wheel. The piece was then high-fired with a spodumene glaze that produces cream, yellow and golden brown tones.

This lovely one-of-a-kind oval serving dish can be used as a serving dish or a centerpiece.

It was thrown on the potter's wheel as a bottomless round form. Once it was dry enough to handle, it was attached to a slab base and the loop handles were joined at the rim. It was twice-fired with my matte green glaze on the inside and the creamy yellow glaze on the outside and the top of the rim.

This dish is 12 inches long, 5 inches across and almost 2 inches deep. Including the handles it is 4 inches tall.

The pitcher is 6 3/4 inches tall and holds 4 cups of your favorite morning juice. The tumblers are 3 3/4 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide at the mouth; they hold 1 cup each. The pitcher's wide strap handle makes it easy to handle and pour.

The pieces are glazed in a dark matte blue glaze on the inside and top portion. This is one of my favorite glazes because it has varies from a deep blue all the way to tan. The bottom of the pieces is glazed in a golden brown glaze. The glazes overlap in the middle creating a band of shiny blue.

I love the deep blue of this teapot! I threw a round vase form on the potters wheel and then turned it upside down, making the neck of the vase into the foot of the teapot. The neck, spout and handle were added when the piece was leather-hard.

The teapot is 7 inches tall to the top of the lid knob and about 7 1/2 inches wide from the tip of the spout to the widest part of the handle. It holds 3 1/2 cups of tea.

Red Textured Box

This elegant stoneware box/canister was handbuilt from clay slabs that were previously impressed with two different pieces of Grandmother's old lace, which left a subtle impressed design on the wet clay. Four pieces were cut from the slab to make the sides of the box, which were carefully joined. Then, two additional pieces were cut to make up the top and bottom. When the piece was dry enough, I cut the lid, creating scalloped edgest on each side to hold the lid in place.

Once the box was bisque fired, I painted a red underglaze on it. I then wiped off most of the underglaze so that it remained mainly in the grooves created by the lace, thus highlighting the pattern. The entire piece was then dipped in a clear glaze.

The box is 3 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches and about 4 inches deep.

Three of my daughters have wedding anniversaries within a few weeks of each other. So, this year, I thought I would make each of them some bud vases for a wedding anniversary gift. I made about a dozen small vases and as I looked at them all lined up, the idea of "together" came to mind. So I smooshed two of them up against each other and... there you have it! Together Vases! The girls loved the vases and they are small enough to hold the flowers that their kids bring them!

This substantial platter is 12 inches in diameter, 1 1/4 inch tall and about 1/2 inch deep.

It comes paired with a gorgeous dip bowl that is 3 inches tall, 2 3/4 inches deep and 4 1/2 inches in diameter.

The set comes in two pieces for added versatily: The dip bowl can sit in the middle of the platter or off to a side. Individually, each piece can have multiple uses. The large platter would make a wonderful display or centerpiece when not in use.

The platter and bowl are made of stoneware clay, thrown on the potter's wheel and fired twice, once in an electric kiln (bisque firing) and again in a gas kiln (glaze firing). The glaze is a rich tomato red with interesting black details in some areas.

Stamped Lidded Rectangular Box

What would you stow in this box? Carefully folded love letters, perhaps? Or more mundane things like jewelry or hair clips, or maybe candy...

This box was handbuilt from clay slabs that were previously impressed with various found objects and clay stamps. Four pieces were then cut to make the sides of the box, which were carefully joined. Then, two additional pieces were cut to make up the ends. When the piece was dry enough, I cut the lid, added a gallery for it to sit on and put a handle on the lid. This piece is glazed in a reddish brown glaze.

It is almost 6 inches tall to the top of the handle, and 3 3/4 inches deep. The feet are 1/2 inch tall. The dimensions of the box are 6 inches by 3 1/2 inches. The lid is 4 1/2 by 2 3/4 inches.

Two gorgeous little teabowls with a million uses. Of course, you can drink your tea from them, but you can also use them for dip or nuts; on your desk or dresser to hold myriad small things; or plop a tealight in them!!

One of the wee bowls is slightly more than 3 inches tall, while the other is a bit less than 3 inches tall. They are each 3 inches in diameter and hold 1 cup.

The bowls were made on a potter's wheel and fired twice, once in an electric kiln (bisque firing) and again in a gas kiln (glaze firing). The glaze is a temouku, dark black/brown.

This cute little vase is only 6 inches tall.

It was thrown on the potter's wheel and carved with a pattern of ivy leaves all around the belly of the vase once the clay was dry enough to handle. It was then fired twice in en electric kiln.

This brie baker is almost 6 inches wide and 3/4 inch deep. A subtle stamped pattern along the edge and on the strap handle is visible through the glaze. The piece is signed on the bottom.

Baked brie is a quick and easy way to entertain in style. Simply place the brie in the baker. Top with your favorite topping and bake until the cheese softens. Here's one of my favorite recipes for topping:

This plate was made on the potter's wheel and fired in an electric kiln. The glaze is a beautiful matte green. The design was achieved by dipping a piece of lace several times in a shiny yellow glaze until it became completely saturated. Then, the glaze-saturated lace was carefully placed on top of the plate (which had already been glazed in the green glaze). During the firing, the lace burned away, leaving behind the subtle pattern of the glaze. Where the two glazes come together, there are blue tinges.

The plate is 9 1/2 inches in diameter. It has a generous foot ring which helps make it 1 1/4 inches tall.

This is a substantial plate that can be used as decoration as well as for serving food. The glazes are food safe and the piece is dishwasher safe. However, it is a one-of-a-kind piece and should be treated with the care it deserves.

These individual bowls are ideal for soup, cereal, salad, ice cream... whatever you need a beautiful handcrafted bowl for!

One bowl is slightly larger than the other one. The larger bowl is 2 3/4 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches deep, while the smaller one is 2 5/8 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches deep. The larger bowl is 5 1/2 inches in diameter while the other one is slightly less than that. They each hold 2 cups (1 pint) of liquid.

This oval container can be used as a vase or a kitchen utensil holder.

It was thrown on the potter's wheel as a bottom-less cylinder and pushed into its oval shape. A bottom was added when it was dry enough to handle.

It is glazed in a matte blue glaze on the inside and top and white on the outside. I painted plant designs on the two sides.

The piece is 6 1/2 inches tall and the opening is 5 1/2 by 2 1/4 inches.

This 4 inch tall shiny black mug has a lacy red heart on one side. The heart is impressed w/ grandmother's lace. It was painted with red underglaze that was then wiped off so that it would only remain as a highlight of the lace. The red heart looks great against the shiny black background!

This is a lovely multipurpose tray! Use it to hold your teabag, or a spoon while cooking. Place it in the bathroom to hold your rings while you wash your hands. Or on your dresser for those few coins in your pocket.

The tray measures a total of 5 x 3.5 inches from rim to rim. The inside area of the tray measures 3 x 1.4 inches. The glaze is a creamy, shiny yellow.

This piece is made out of a clay slab with supporting pieces of clay to form the rim (see photo of back of item). I then drop the piece on the floor from about waist high, causing the slab to flatten and the supporting pieces to create the rim area. The final step is to stamp it all around the rim with a clay stamp.

This is a sweet little set for your sushi. It includes a hand-built textured tray, a small teapot for the tamari or soy sauce and a small bowl.

The tray measures 10 1/2 by 6 1/4 inches (the serving surface is 7 by 3 1/4 inches). It was hand-built from a clay slab and has a pattern stamped all around the rim.

The wee teapot is 3 1/2 inches tall to the top of the lid and 3 3/4 inches tall to the top of the spout. It holds almost one cup.

The tiny bowl is 1 1/2 inch tall and 3 1/4 inches in diameter.

The wine chiller can be placed in the freezer up to an hour before use and it will keep the wine nice and cool!

This wine cooler is 5 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter. It was made on the potter's wheel of brown stoneware clay and has an applied bamboo design on two sides. It raised off the table on 3 small feet.

The outside of each mug was dipped in a different color glaze and then the rims were dipped again in the yellow to create an overlap of the two glazes. The outside glazes are iron red, blue, golden brown, and green.

The mugs are about 3 3/4 inches tall and 3 1/2 inches deep, and 3 1/4 inches in diameter. They hold 1 1/2 cup of your favorite beverage.

Oval Dish/Tray with textured handles

This beautiful oval tray is ideal for serving dips, cheese logs or candy. It can also be used as a catch-all on your dresser or side table.

It was built from a slab and the rim was impressed using various clay stamps.

It is 10 3/4 inches long and almost 5 1/2 inches wide and about 1/2 inch deep at the center.

Here's my favorite cream cheese log recipe:

***Cream Cheese and Olives Log

Sprinkle bread crumbs on waxed paper. Place a brick of room-temperature cream chesse on top. Sprinkle with more bread crumbs and cover with another piece of waxed paper. Using a rolling pin, carefully flatten the cream cheese. Remove top piece of waxed paper and spread olive tapenade in the center of the cream cheese. Using the bottom piece of waxed paper, carefully bring the sides of the cream cheese up and over to form a log. Eat with your favorite crackers or crusty bread.

These individual bowls are ideal for soup, cereal, salad, ice cream... whatever you need a beautiful handcrafted bowl for!

The bowls were thrown on the potter's wheel and twice fired in an electric kiln. They are stamped with a random pattern of alphabet letters and glazed in a gray/blue glaze. Both bear my mark on the bottom.

The bowls are 2 1/2 inches tall and about 5 14 inches in diameter. They each hold 1 1/2 cups of liquid.

Round Lidded Box

This stoneware box is ideal for all those small things that need a home: rings and other small jewelery, errant pennies, all those beautiful small pebbles you've collected, that candy you don't want to share...

This box is thrown in one piece as a closed form on the potter's wheel. Once it's dry enough to handle, I cut and key the lid and place the handle. It is glazed in a blue/tan on the inside. The glaze on the outside was sprayed instead of dipped or poured, giving it a more uneven surface. Because the glaze application is much thiner than would have been the case if it had been dipped, the rougher surface of the clay can be felt, making it a bit more rustic.

The box is 4 1/4 inches tall to the top of the lid and almost 2 inches deep.

LOL! Sometimes I don't really "see" things until I'm getting the photographs ready to post. In the case of this box, I just noticed that it reminds me of a Rooster (see second image)!

Stamped Lidded Rectangular Box -- Yellow

This box was handbuilt from clay slabs that were previously impressed with a piece of lace. Four pieces were then cut to make the sides of the box, which were carefully joined. Then, two additional pieces were cut to make up the top and bottom. When the piece was dry enough, I cut and key the lid. The glaze on the inside of this piece is a matte green with tan highlights. A yellow glaze was lightly sprayed on the outside of the piece. Because the glaze application is much thiner than would have been the case if it had been dipped, the rougher surface of the clay can be felt, making it a bit more rustic.

It is 4 inches tall and almost 2 1/4 inches deep.

The perfect mug for that OMG! person in your life... The bottom of this mug is matte green while the top was double dipped in another glaze, making it not only shiny, but also resulting in startling blue pools along the handle. The mug is 4 inches tall and has "OMG!" stamped on the front.
