The carved red coral pendant on this necklace is double sided and both sides have a pretty image of a bird with flowers. This is really two necklaces in one because the pendant and bail can be slipped off the garnet strands so that the necklace can also be worn without it!

The eight strands in this necklace are comprised of approximately 1400 tiny round garnet beads, all hand strung by me. I chose the garnets because their color compliments the colors of the flowers on the pendant so well.

The sterling silver bail was handmade to match the sterling silver components that are holding the necklace strands in place.

The necklace length is 18-1/2" and extends up to 21" in length. The bead strands are approximately 3/8" in diameter.

The pendant is 1-1/2" in diameter by 3/8" thick and is 1-7/8" in length from the bottom of the bail to the bottom of the faceted garnet beneath the cloisonne bead.

I am really excited to present this necklace. It is one of those pieces where everything just went right and I loved the process and results. I melted the silver that made the ingot that became the back plate of the pendant. To me that is so cool!

I was drawn to this pretty chrysoprase stone because it looks so much like an Asian wash painting. You can see the mist, trees,hills and water if you look closely.

I created a frame for this painting from silver and 18 karat gold bi-metal disks, further embellishing it with cut out shapes and an elegant bezel. The chain has some handmade silver oval and round links, a decorative handmade extender with a tiny faceted sapphire and mother of pearl, and S clasp. All of the silver has been oxidized and polished.

The oxidation on the pendant itself is best represented by the third photo, the one on the piece of slate. The other photos seem to show it a bit darker.

The pendant is 1-1/4" long by 1-1/8" wide. The chain is 16-1/2" long and extends to an overall length of 17-1/4".

Chrysoprase is the most valuable stone in the chalcedony group. The microscopic fine quartz fibers in it have a radial structure. Its green color is the result of staining by nickel oxide compounds of the stone.

The name chrysoprase has been derived from a Greek word "chrysos prason," which means gold leek.
