Two yarns are used in this rather basic hat - a white wool/mohair blend knit in tandem with a hand-painted wool from one of my favorite 'indies'.

The result is a muted fuzz-ball of a hat - light yet warm. Dress it up with an antique pin or button.

TAILORED TATTERSALL SHIRT

Worn occasionally and laundered several times -
Hand made - in the early late 1980s.

LOTS OF TAILORING AND DETAILING:

* unusual button-less epaulets on the shoulders

* lightly gathered sleeve heads and cuffs

* the hand stitched hem

* unique fold-over double buttoned collar (my favorite aspect of this shirt)

* Top-stitching throughout.

Tattersall weave cotton blend FABRIC (perhaps 100%? I really can't remember!)

background of taupe with teal, wine and beige threads.

Front buttoned with coordinating brown faux-wood buttons.

My size 8 model "Aggie" has a 24 inch waist and this blouse fit her perfectly.

I wouldn't recommend this for a woman with a full bust.

The blouse is made from a commercial pattern size 10 and will fit a "store size" of 6 to 8.

From neck back to hemline -

Vintage 1980s Tailored Trousers - Light Camel Tweed

Worn once or twice - shows absolutely no wear.

Sewn in them late 1970s, early 1980s during the DALLAS and DYNASTY era of pencil thin pants and fluffy shoulder-padded blouses

Super Snug waist band with a front fly zipper, slanted side pockets, soft front tucks and figure clinging back darts.

Pockets have a nice inner treatment to prevent gaping.

Narrow belt loops on natural waistband -
a jewelry belt was used.

Tapered to ankle pant legs.
High heeled pumps were the style.

These pants will NOT be appropriate for a slender yet curvy figure.

Slim hips and tiny waist are a MUST!

A very Basic very Versatile scarf in an 'almost goes with anything' light blue-grey tweedy yarn -
hues of white, silver, pale and medium grey.

It's not too long, not too short
with a length of 4 feet.

Not too wide, not too narrow
with a width of 4 1/2 inches.

An easy mix of simple knit patterns of seed and stockinette make this scarf suitable for just about anyone -
perhaps a young boy or girl, man or woman.

This not-at-all-itchy blend of wool, cotton, rayon and acrylic fibers is from my endless stash of cones, balls and skeins of various fibers, gauges and colors from favorite indie merchants.

This mix is durable, comfortable and easy-care.

How about a comfy fun 'romper' for the big girls? This one is a hand sewn culotte patchwork jumpsuit from the early 1990s.

A bunch of chambray and madras pieces of summery colors make up this patchwork fabric of 100% cotton (I confess - it's commercially created patch work - but it's definitely patches and looks authentic)

Front button v-neck, step-in, with dropped waistline, culotte-skirt and short sleeves. Boxy easy comfortable fit.

Hand stitched hems on sleeves and bottom for easy alterations if necessary.

Classic single breasted jacket with two button closure

Three patch pockets (hand applied)

Hand-stitched lining, pockets and hems

Ventless

Fully lined in light beige taffeta

Interfaced fronts, lapels and shoulders.

Beige and Cream marbled buttons

Shoulder pads - just for shaping - NOT oversized

Tailored 3 button sleeve cuffs.

Outer fabric is a linen blend (specific content unknown but I presume this is a cotton and linen blend) in a slubby weave in pale sage green.

Front buttons, high collar, v-shaped yoke with ruffles, long sleeves with gathered sleeve tops, narrow buttoned cuffs.

Body is a body-skimming square cut.

Elegant blouse, hand sewn in the mid 1980s in an oriental inspired print white, gold and black cranes on a background of deep sea-green.

Front side snapped hidden under a circular ruffle.
Simple short sleeves, straight and straight bottom - both with hand stitched hems.

Body is a squared fit - not snug, no darts. Just a body skimming staight and simple line.

100% polyester.

BEAUTIFULLY BOBBLED BLUE Sweater

Never Worn
Made in the mid 1980s

Here's a really nice crocheted pullover sweater.
It's medium weight in a year-round 'faux cotton' 100% acrylic.

Crocheted in mostly double crochet with rows of bobbles on the entire sweater - not just on the front.

As much as I looove cotton - this microfiber has the advantage not growing or shrinking. It has the hand, weight and comfort of cotton but won't shrink in the wash nor will the snug cuff stretch into a trumpet sleeve by day's end.

A simple crew-neck, an unstructured body, and just the right amount of ribbing at waistband, neckband and cuff make this sweater timeless in style yet feminine and fashionable as well.

Wear it as-is sweatshirt style or dress it up with a Lacy scarf or a voile peasant skirt.

The sweater is a rich Robin's Egg blue -
Size is pretty petite - woman's or teen's smallish or perhaps an older child.

Some measurements follow (without stretching, so factor in a bit of ease because crochet work isn't as stretchy as knitting);

Body Circumference - 32"

Length from arm pit to bottom of hem - 12 1/2"

A favorite from the 70s - durable and still looking great
Hand made - Some time in the mid 1970s.

I also made a small pullover for my step-daughter and later another in the same yarn in blue for my son.

Beautifully hand knit in a heathery acrylic yarn.

Nice boxy fit with wide ribbed v-neck, bottom and sleeve holes. 5 heavy plastic buttons down the front.

The body is knit in a reverse stockinette stitch with zig-zag wide stripes (like Charlie Brown's).

Gently worn -
Hand made - Sometime in the 1970s

Beautifully hand knit in a good quality acrylic yarn.

The color was called "Winter White" - a traditional aran color.

I remember making a bunch of arans and cabled sweaters during the 1970s.
Some were in 100% wool but I preferred the comfort and care of a better quality acrylic.
This one is "Wintuk" - a popular back then.

Full length coat with wooden buttons.
The full and adjustable collar can be worn spread out over the shoulders or buttoned up to create a cowl.

Cables all over the place -
up the front -
scattered over the shoulders and bodice
on all over the collar
on the patch pockets
on the full sleeve cuffs.

The sleeves are full and long with a large fold-up cuff so it is easily adjustable to your own arm length.

The raglan sleeves beautifully accentuate the cables spreading nicely all around the shoulders, chest, sleeve tops and around to the back.

The body is knit in reverse stockinette stitch.

This coat fits my size 8 model "Aggie" perfectly and with its full styling will fit most women's sizes from small thru medium.

Comfy bubbly fit with pretty little shoulder ties.

Loose fitting - with long tapered legs for a nice tide-tickling scamper.

Oh - those days of summer and sand and sunshine.

Running barefoot on the beach in the evening after a day in the sun.

Here's another cutie I made at least 15 years ago in the late 1980s or early 1990s.

It's a 100% cotton beach themed print in pastel aqua, peach, yellow and blues on a background of white and aqua stripes.

Comfy bubbly fit with short roll-up sleeves, gently gathered high waist, front buttoned bodice, and two deep and super-large patch pockets for shell collecting.
Loose fitting - with long elasticized bottom legs for a nice tide-tickling scamper. Ties in the back for a tighter fit or just for cute.

Machine washable and dry-able. Hang immediately after removal from dryer and it shouldn't need to be ironed.

until daughter #1 outgrew both the PJs and, sadly, Looney Tunes.

The second Tweetie remained half-finished and, much to daughter #2's outrage -

- Beige Tattersall - 1990s

Hand made - in the early 1990s from a commercial sewing pattern.

Wool blend camel beige with subtle threads of taupe and cream in a woven tattersall plaid tweed.

Exact fiber content not known but I suspect wool with a tad of nylon and/or polyester as the bodice has a slight amount of pilling.

Jumper has a front buttoned v-neck bodice, back zipper, loose dropped waistline and a softly gathered mid-calf long skirt.

The jumper can be pulled over the head or unzipped to step-in.

Worn occasionally to my desk-job in the early 1990s.

Excellent condition (with the exception of the very slight pilling on the bodice front as mentioned above)

Commercially dry cleaned and ready-to-wear.

VERY VERY 1980s silver and taffeta black cocktail dress.

Fitted bodice with low slanted "waist line"

Fully lined bodice in a knit fabric (a dark burgundy - it was what I had and it doesn't show)

Long back zipper for easy "step-into" access

Black taffeta for 2 tiered skirt

Black and silver knit bodice and sleeves

Shoulder pads (not too big - just enough to maintain a nice shoulder line)

Simple neckline (to draw attention to the drape and skirts)

Dramatic bow on left side

Draped styling on left side of bodice ending above bow.

Lined double tiered and flounced skirts

synthetic "horse hair" applied to hems to maintain the pouffiness

If I must say so myself - I did a marvelous job on this one.

I suspect the dress is mostly polyester, rayon and plastic silver dots.

A simple boxy blouse embellished with lush lace.

Front buttoned with clear Lucite oblong buttons.

Wide lacy collar.

Double lace trim cuffs

High simple neckline would be lovely accented with a cameo or other old-fashioned brooch.

Lightly gathered sleeves ending in snug single-button cuffs.

Very light-weight 100% Polyester fabric in a neutral cream.

I'd suggest a pastel camisole under this blouse. ____________________________________________________

My size 8 model "Aggie" has a 24 inch waist and this blouse fit her perfectly.

I wouldn't recommend this for a woman with a full bust.
was really large on her.

The blouse is made from a commercial pattern size 10.

Formal attire was the custom for passengers on cruise ships in 1969.

Here's one of the many dresses I made for myself for a 10 day cruise to the Caribbean islands.

Authentic Hawaiian tropical print in 100% high-quality cotton.

I started a fun job in Singer's new chain of sewing machine / fabric stores that were popping up as fast as the malls. I was a bookkeeper/sales girl. We weren't called "sales associates" back then.

I had just flunked out of my first college experience the year before and before starting classes at a new college my mother and I treated ourselves to a lovely cruise in late August 1969.

This is a halter-styled dress with a very fitted waist and flared full length skirt.

Hot pinks and reds in an abstract island print.

I was 5'4" and weighed an unbelievably wonderful 114 pounds.

This is a commercial USA pattern size 6 (NOT the same as a store-size 6)

He was learning Russian that summer.

3 piece jumper set -

QUILTED SKIRT AND VEST;
* Little white hearts on a background of peach.
* Elastic back pull-on skirt with eyelet and ribbon trimmed hem
* Front buttoned vest - lined in light blue taffeta
* Little heart buttons on front and back

FLORAL COTTON BLOUSE
* Peach and pink roses and daisies and little blue flowers strewn on cream cotton.
* Buttoned back with pink ball buttons (flat button below the waistband for comfort)
* Big "Puritan" collar trimmed with same lace as skirt hem
* Long gathered sleeves (elastic wrist) trimmed with same lace.

Quilted fabric and floral blouse are both 100% cotton.
Vest lining is Acrylic.

Worn occasionally and laundered several times -
Hand made - in February 1991.

A very simple dress in a lovely rose print on silky polyester fabric.

Lightly gathered skirt - drop-waisted, pull-over dress in that comfy 1980s style.

High simple neckline. Imagine a plain string of pearls or a silver chained locket.

Straight sleeves, keyhole opening with single button closure at back neck.

100% Polyester fabric - pink roses, lavender tulips and lilies, other flowers in peach and yellow, green leaves on a white embossed background (look closely at the detail photograph)

My size 8 model "Aggie" has a 24 inch waist and this dress was really large on her.

The dress is made from a commercial pattern size 14.

This was perfect for back-to-the-office after a pregnancy leave.

Regular set in sleeves with menswear styled cuffs with 3 brass-toned buttons.

Feminine princess seams on front and back

Fully lined with complimentary polka dot polyester - hand stitched sleeve inset and hems.

Back tucks in lining for ease.

Interfaced front, collar, lapels, cuffs, hem and shoulders.

Another sweet little girl's dress hand sewn in the early 1990s.

Cute puppies - of all breeds (except I don't see any black labs or border collies) - make up the main part of this sleeveless frock.

A coordinating fabric of paw prints and bones is used for the collar, pockets and back bow.

The fabrics are 100% cotton.

Colors are off-white, navy, tan, gray, black.

Pull-over dress, sleeveless, calf length, comfortable loose high waist.

Over-sized pockets on both sides, nicely ruffled square collar with a V'd back ending in a bow and a tucked and ruffled hem.

There is a lot of detail on this dress.

BASIC and yet NOT-SO-BASIC beaded black cocktail dress.

I made this dress in 1984 for several holiday parties.

Spaghetti straps
Fully lined bodice and upper part of skirt
Dressy black crepe
Double tiered sheer skirts
Drop waist-line (flattering for those with a not-so-defined waistline)
Hand beaded skirts in GLASS iridescent beads
(individually sewn!)

Body is a body-skimming yet un-structured fit.

100% polyester.

Beautifully hand knit in a high-quality 100% heavy cotton yarn.

Boxy sweat-shirt shaping.
Warm yet very comfortable.

Peachy pink upper bodice with popcorn stitches.
Cream borders and bottoms.
Rose pink and pale mint green intarsia roses.

Ribbed bottom, cuffs and neckline.
