Pattern for Knitted Snowball Muff

$5.00
Frivolous accessories—they somehow transport me back to when I was a little girl. That was back when I desperately wanted to carry a purse, but had nothing to put in it. So I would scrounge up a couple pennies, a piece of gum and the comb I used on your dolls’ hair. This muff brings back that innocence—those days of reading the Little House books, where Laura glides across the frozen prairie in a toboggan. Or maybe it was a daydream of being a princess in a frozen land with her sleigh.

Whatever your snowy dream is, this can take you there. It’s actually more practical than it seems. The muff really does keep your hands warm, without the awkwardness of removing a mitten to do something that needs dexterity. It even includes a pocket just big enough for some keys, a small wallet and a dream or two.

This muff is designed for two sizes, child and adult. The size change is achieved by altering the yarn weight and needle size to change the gauge.

MATERIALS Adult size Plymouth Yarn Yukon 35% Mohair, 35% Wool 30% Acrylic; 60yd/55m per 100g skein; color: White 070; 3 skeins
1 set(s) US #10/6mm straight needles
1 24 length-inch US #15/10mm circular needle

MATERIALS Child size Lamb’s Pride Brown Sheep Bulky 85% Wool, 15% Mohair; 125yd/114m per 100g skein; color: White; 1 skeins
1 set(s) US #8/5mm straight needles
1 24 length-inch US #10.5/6.5mm circular needle

Additional Notions: 4 buttons
Tapestry needle
Fiberfill or other stuffing

Pattern will be shipped as a PDF via e-mail

Pattern for Christmas Topper

When the weather gets colder, I like to put something fun on top of me too. This cute holiday topper was inspired by a vintage hat I saw a few years back. I love the way it perches right on the back of your head. It makes me feel perky and it seems to make other people smile too. Silly fun will do that, we all need more silly fun especially when dealing with mandatory “holiday fun”. So put on this hat, hit the office or family party, and manage to generate a genuine smile when you catch sight of yourself wearing it. Better yet make one for everyone else so you don’t have to find a mirror.

SIZE
Adult Large [Adult Small, Child, Baby/pet] (Adult Small and Child)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Height: 5 [4.5, 4, 2] inches
Circumference: 26 [19, 15, 12.5] inches

MATERIALS
[MC] Rowan Biggy Print [100% Merino wool; 33 yd/3om per 100g skein]; color: Fetish Red SH236; 1 skein
[CC] Anny Blatt Vega [55% Laine/Wool, 45% Polyamid; 44 yd/40 m per 50g skein]; color: White; 1 skein
or
[MC] Red Heart Grande [100% Acrylic; 149 yd/138m per 170g skein]; color: Cranberry; 1 skein
[CC] Bernat Fur Out[92% Viscose, 8% Polyester; 70 yd/64 m per 50g skein]; color: White; 1 skein

1 set US #10/6mm straight needles
Tapestry needle

GAUGE
7 sts/11 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch
Pattern for Impressions Gloves and Headband

$6.00
The colors in this lovely yarn reminded me of Monet’s Water Lilies. I started the gloves on straight needles then switched to dpns for working in the round. I like to start projects in the round by working a few rows flat to avoid twisting the work when joining. The large number of cast on stitches also seemed to invite the straight needles to start.
The bows and flowers are made shown in Cocoon from Rowan, and Yukon from Plymouth but will work up in any similar weight scrap yarns.
All abbreviations and terms use US conventions.

This pattern calls for 3 skeins of Aracunia Copihue, a bulky weight yarn that knits up at 14 sts/4". 2 skeins are for the gloves, and 1 is for the headband.

You will also need a small amount of Super Bulky and Worsted weight yarns. The items are show in Plymouth Yukon and Rowan Cocoon.

SIZE
gloves
Circumference: 8”
length: 8”

headband
Circumference: 20”
width: 3”

This pattern will be shipped via e-mail as a PDF.

PATTERN for Impressions Neckwarmer

I like them just fine once they’re done but the making of them can be tedious. This neckwarmer provides the same snug warmth with less yarn than a scarf and the knitting is varied to keep you interested. I’ve named it Impressions because the colors in this lovely yarn reminded me of Monet’s Water Lilies. All abbreviations and terms use US conventions.

This uses less then one skein each of Malabrigo Gruesa in Natural and Rosa Viejo as well as one skein of Malabrigo Aquarella in Solis.

NOTIONS
US13/10 mm needles
Size M crochet hook
Tapestry needle
1 button

SIZE
Length: 21 ½ inches
width: 8 inches

GAUGE
9 sts = 4" in stst
Pattern for Elven Tree Toque

$5.00
Let’s face it, elves work hard this time of year. They need a little something to make them feel special, to remind them of the forests where they should be frolicking, instead of slaving away in some arctic sweatshop. This hat is just the ticket. It’s shaped like those pines where they build tree houses. The edges curl up just like the toes on their shoes, and best of all it doesn’t take life too seriously.

If you aren’t an elf it could also be placed on a cone or post to be used as a table top decoration. The branches are formed by a lace pattern which grows as you knit. With short rows in the bind off the hat also gets a fun pointy edge at the bottom. Try adding white angora yarn on the “branches” after knitting to give it the look of snow. Or if you’re really ambitious embroider some decorations on there too.

This hat is knit on needles that are quite a bit smaller than the manufacturer recommends for the yarn. This yields a fairly stiff piece of knitting which gives the hat the body it needs.

This pattern does not scale well by adding or removing stitches. If you wish to make it smaller (as for a child) or larger (to use as a table top decoration), you should change yarn and needle sizes. The piece shown below as a tree has a cone underneath for support.

If you are substituting yarn please note that the gauge according to the manufacturer is as follows:
Lamb’s Pride Worsted 18 sts/28 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch on size US #8/5mm

A chart for the lace is included as well as written instructions. Special thanks to Dave at sweaterproject.org for creating Visiknit.

Pattern will be shipped as a PDF to your Paypal related e-mail. Please let me know if you would like it e-mailed to a different address.
The flames motif folds up over ribbing for a snug fit. The extra layers of knitting in that area sit right over your ears to keep them nice and warm.

This hat is offered in two versions. The Hot Rod version has red flames and a plain stockinette top. The Princess version has pink flames and tassels as well as a lace pattern for the top for an extra girly look. The flames are worked from a chart. The pattern includes both a chart and written instructions for the lace.

The pattern includes directions for two sizes small-18 inches around and large-24 inches around. You may adjust the sizing by manipulating the yarn weight and gauge.

The Hot Rod version calls for 2 skeins of Malabrigo Merino Worsted Black and 1 skein Nashua Wooly Stripes in Fiesta.

The Princess Hat calls for 2 skeins Glisten Kollage in Navy, 1 skein Filatura Di Crosa New Smoking in Silver and 1 skein Blue Sky Brushed Suri in Pink.

You may substitute any worseted weight yarn.
SIZES--Small [Large]

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS--Circumference: 18 [24] inches

GAUGE--18 sts/24 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch

PATTERN for Cloister Socks

$6.00
Clois-tered: Noun kloi-sterd
Secluded from the world; sheltered: a cloistered life
Having a cloister or cloisters
Imagine yourself a princess, choosing a simpler life. You’ve retired to the local abbey with it’s colonnade around the garden. You want something warm on your feet as you walk the stone halls. Your new life leaves frills behind, perhaps a sock with a simple 2x2 rib. It will allow you to chat with the other ladies or contemplate as you work. Though you’ve left the ostentation of lace behind, but still want something a little feminine. The cuff can have a hem that forms a picot edging and acts as a casing for a feminine ribbon. And your feet, unaccustomed to rough texture will want the soles to have the purl bumps on the outside, with the smooth stockinette against your skin. In honor of your new home there should be a shaped arch, an inverted V at the back of the heel, and calf shaping to echo the architecture around you. You’ll create these Cloister Socks.

This pattern contains extensive notes and suggestions for customizing the fit for your foot and leg.

Shown in Lorna's Laces Sportweight--3 skeins
Gauge--30 sts/4"
Foot length 9" circumference of foot 8 1/2"

The piece shown was made from exactly one skein of the yarn. I recommend using 2 skeins of your chosen yarn so you don’t have to worry about running out just before the end. You also would have the option to make it longer. Pattern includes written instructions as well as a chart for the lace pattern.

This pattern makes a scarf that is approximately 12 inches x 45 inches. It calls for Kidsilk Haze, a laceweight yarn and optional beads. The pattern specifies size US 3/3.25 mm needles. The gauge is 14 sts and 22 rows in pattern yeilds 3" by 3".

Pattern will be shipped as a PDF via e-mail.
Vineyard Mitts

These gloves remind me of the colors in a vineyard with their grapes of purple bobbles, entwining vines of tan cables and leafy green in the main body. But imagine them worked in bright primary colors as a gift for a favorite school teacher to wear outside at recess, or pastels for a romantic look. You could even work them up in a single creamy white to echo classic Aran style sweaters.
If you’ve mastered the basics and want to try a new challenge, this is a great introduction. The gloves are small enough that you get a little sample of the techniques in it without the commitment of a larger project. If you are a more advanced knitter these can be a quick relaxing project. If you want you can even adapt the pattern to be knit in the round to eliminate that pesky, end of project seaming.

Pattern will be shipped via e-mail.
