The teal colored, hand-dyed bamboo twill pictured is an example of my custom Mei Tai carriers. It is shown with padded waist and shoulders, using Amy Butler's "Fresh Poppies" for the accent. It is fully lined in cashmere/silk woven jacquard. This custom combination is $160.

My Mei Tai carriers are available in bamboo, organic cotton, or conventional cotton. I'm happy to order fabric for the accent piece if you have a particular designer fabric in mind and dye the straps to match. Mei tais are very versatile baby carriers and can be worn for front, back, and hip carries, with babies up to 40 pounds.

Dimensions:
Straps – 80" x 5" (95" if measured from the waist)
Waist – 71" x 4"
Accent piece (not including hood) – 15.5" wide x 14.5" tall

Pricing:
The pricing of my mei tai varies depending on fabric choices and padding. The basic, cotton, unpadded model is $65. That is cotton twill or canvas for the straps and a designer quilter's cotton for the center piece. For organic cotton or bamboo, add $30.

Options:
Non-organic fleece padding:
+$5 for a padded waist
+$10 for padded shoulders

Organic or bamboo fleece padding:
+$8 for waist
+$16 for shoulders.

Lined throughout with a 70% cashmere/30% silk blend: +$30

Machine wash gentle in cold water, roll in a towel to remove excess water. Do not wring. Line dry.

A note on bamboo:
Bamboo is a highly resistant organic crop, grown without pesticides or insecticides. As a textile it’s an eco-fiber with natural properties that are very desirable for baby products:
- it’s very durable and can be tossed in both the washer
and dryer
- it’s naturally anti-microbial, prohibiting the growth of
bacteria and resisting the growth of mold, yeast, and
fungus
- it’s hypoallergenic and thus an excellent choice for
people with skin sensitivities
- it’s very breathable and great for hot, summer days

The criss-cross construction distributes the baby's weight across your shoulders and back evenly. A separate obi sash can be tied around and under your baby to give additional support and stability, or woven through the upper rails of the carrier to provide head and neck support. The X-sling is designed for younger babies, and most users should be able to carry up to 20-25 pounds comfortably.
