I thought I was done making smudge sticks for the season and in walks my mother in law with two large baskets full of wonderful smelling lavender. My sage already done for the season.....I decided to make all lavender smudge wands. They smell fabulous!!

Grown, harvested and crafted by us. No pesticides were used. All natural.....wrapped in cotton threads. Approx 9" -13" long. Aprrox 3-4" in diameter.

Once this seasons harvest is gone....its gone until next year.

Grandmother Crone's Rose Petal Soap for Love Spellwork

If you have shopped here before, you most likely already know my affinity for the Crone.

I see so many revering the beauty of youth, when the wisdom, calm and comfort is found in the Crone. She is what I aspire to be......like my Grandmother. Full of venom and vinegar, she was. Ready to sock it to a Hell's Angel for coming too close to us on his motorcycle. (yup)

Understanding how very sensitive I was....especially with animals. My Grandfather built me a grand bed for a little sparrow I had found, that was near death. My Grandmother made the little blankets to go on this grand four poster bed. That little sparrow went on to the Summerland in grand fashion!!

I have so many stories I could tell you, but the one thing that really sticks in my mind was her famous Rosebud Salve. She had it with her at all times in some little antiquated tin. She used it on everything....sunburns, mosquito bites, chapped lips and really bad, my leg is falling off,...boo boo's. lol

As soon as that rose scent hit my nostrils, I knew it was all going to be okay. :)

I asked for very little when she passed a couple of years ago....one of her quilts, her recipes, one of her aprons and that little tin of Rosebud Salve. And as I cried my eyes out at the loss of her....I opened that little tin and breathed deeply....and was reminded of all the times she wiped away my tears.

This soap is in honor of my Grandmother...who made everything under the sun, from scratch.

Love is not always finding a mate....a love spell can be done just to bring more love into your life. Be it through friendship, children.....or grandmothers. :)

Our Esbat oil is made from eo/fo oils, blended carrier oils and silver dust. The silver dust gives the oil a shimmery look...some settling on the bottom to give it an ethereal silver base. :) (I tried my best to get the brilliant purple color....its darker in these pics than in person)

The smell on this one is AWESOME!! This one and the Horned God oil are my very favorites.

Cottage Witch-Norse Oil - 1/4 oz

A very masculine smelling oil, lightly colored blue. With Juniper, Fir and Mugwort.

Mugwort is one of the nine herbs mentioned in "The Nine Wort's Galdor," and was seen as a general cure all. Simply placing a sprig of it in one's pouch was supposed to prevent T¡ring. Mugwort gathered on Midsummer Eve and placed in a grain bin was thought to keep mice away from the grain, while wreathes of mugwort defended against thunder and thieves. If made into a girdle, mugwort was thought to protect one from witches, ghosts, and general misfortune. Mugwort in modern Asatru and Heathen practice is used as a journey herb to fare forth and as an aid in trancing for spae and seidhr work. Good runes to use with mugwort would be Ur, Os, andGéar.

Juniper- This evergreen like the oak is hallowed to Thunor (Thor), and according to several Icelandic tales cannot be mixed with rowan (another tree favored by the thunder god), or a too much heat will be generated. The juniper was thought capable of restoring life, and its oil had a variety of uses in elixirs and poultices. It also makes a very good incense. Thorn and K‚n are good runes to use with juniper.

The fir is an evergreen and is strongly linked to the idea of immortality. One of the Anglo-Roman altars at Hadrians Wall has a representation of a fir tree. This altar was dedicated to the Mothers' cult, and may show a link between the Mothers and the Anglo-Saxon Modraniht (Yule eve) mentioned by Bede. It was once believed in Germany, that if one had the gout, they could get rid of it by going to a fir tree after sunset and saying a charm on three Fridays in a row.

If you are like me and have three huge cupboards full of altar sets and altar supplies.....it shortens my search time when my oils are colored. I can look right in, and grab what I want. :)

We love runes! But the ones being offered nowadays all look "manufactured".

When we think of the men of the north....we think skins, horns, axes, mead and meat on the bone. Days, weeks... months on the sea. Tough men of salt and earth.

To imagine them consulting little painted moonstones...in a cute little flowered bag...lol! (And they have tutus under their tunics as well!! haha)

When we set out to make runes, we wanted them to look like they had been dug up in some archaeological dig. We wanted each piece to be uneven...the runes themselves to be hand burned or engraved.

We wanted them on wood, bone, horn or (non shiny) stone. We wanted them to feel historical.

We already offer them on oak...but, here is Tai's first offering on antler.

Made from shed antlers. (no animal had to die for the use of this antler) Burned and then lightly finished. They come in their own pouch.

24 runes plus the wyrd (blank). (The blank is not traditional, but we know some like to use it)

Large Handmade Brigids Cross for Harvest Sabbats-Lughnasadh, Mabon, Samhain and Imbolc/Candlemas. 16"-17" (approx).

Wheat grown here in Indiana by our family....harvested by hand and hand woven. Bound together with raffia. Sealed with a finish, for years of use. (Stems are sealed, not the actual wheat.)Each cross has been smudged....and ready for your altar or door.

**The 3rd-5th picture is the actual wheat field your cross is made from. It grows happy and healthy here in Indiana. :)

**In picture four, Tai is holding a old fashioned scythe...its almost as tall as he is, and he is over 6 feet!

This design is so fantastic. A group of men and women dancing naked around a bonfire in a forest. Within the branches, the face of Cernunnos is apparant along with a pentacle within his horns. Full moon high in the sky. The phrase reads " You Pray. We dance naked in the forest."

Take a seat by the bonfire....Gigi is gonna tell you a little Beltane story. Shhhhh, now....drink your mead and listen. For you will become wise in hearing this tale.

Once upon a time, there lived a proud and pagan man. Raised in a far away land named after a fresh born calf...New Jersey. He journeyed long and far...spreading his Druidic knowledge to everyone he met. Landing in yet another distant land full of settled English...the land of New England. Settling himself in the province that sounded much like someone spitting up expectorant....Massachusetts.

At this very moment in time, a white haired witch was settling in that same land. After introduction, the witch and the druid became fast friends. :)

The white haired witch envied the druid....he was unashamed of his religion. She learned much from his vast knowledge over many ales, drums, bonfires, Arnold Schwartzafrogs and fireflies. What a magickal land the druid tended.

The white haired witch could not stay....she was destined to marry the overly tall Viking, Tai. (Strange name for a Viking, I know!) Off she went to another far away land named after many long haired, half naked, gorgeous men carrying axes.....called Indiana.

She missed her druid friend and called him on a magickal talking device, she was a witch afterall. :)

During one of these exchanges, the druid began to tell her about a little dilemma. Seems he'd had a bit of an accident.....and was walking with a very pronounced limp.

Horrified and worried for her friend, the White haired witch asked what happened.

The druid began to explain.....

The sacred fertility Sabbat had come. In celebration, the Druid built his Beltane bonfire large and high, so that all around the english would know of his celebration. He stripped his tunic and began to beat with heavy hand on his drum....singing and dancing to the Beltane chant.
As is tradition..... the Druid hefted his mighty self up and jumped over the fire. In mid air, a flame lept up unnaturally cupping his extremities, scorching his "mead bladder". Much pain was had by the poor Druid of the burnt chestnuts.

The white haired witch became quiet.....until she burst forth with great laughter, falling to the floor rolling amongst the rushes. Unable to quiet the fit that had come over her.

Once she had regained her sanity, the white haired witch decided to memorialize this sacred burning of the "mead bladder" and created a t-shirt for all to wear. So that men from all walks of life, will know to wear a loin clothe before attempting the leap over the sacred fire.

Be ye forewarned and for goddess sake, warn others!! Buy this shirt....spread the word.

A very masculine smelling oil, lightly colored blue. With Juniper, Fir and Mugwort.

Mugwort is one of the nine herbs mentioned in "The Nine Wort's Galdor," and was seen as a general cure all. Simply placing a sprig of it in one's pouch was supposed to prevent T¡ring. Mugwort gathered on Midsummer Eve and placed in a grain bin was thought to keep mice away from the grain, while wreathes of mugwort defended against thunder and thieves. If made into a girdle, mugwort was thought to protect one from witches, ghosts, and general misfortune. Mugwort in modern Asatru and Heathen practice is used as a journey herb to fare forth and as an aid in trancing for spae and seidhr work. Good runes to use with mugwort would be Ur, Os, andGéar.

Juniper- This evergreen like the oak is hallowed to Thunor (Thor), and according to several Icelandic tales cannot be mixed with rowan (another tree favored by the thunder god), or a too much heat will be generated. The juniper was thought capable of restoring life, and its oil had a variety of uses in elixirs and poultices. It also makes a very good incense. Thorn and K‚n are good runes to use with juniper.

The fir is an evergreen and is strongly linked to the idea of immortality. One of the Anglo-Roman altars at Hadrians Wall has a representation of a fir tree. This altar was dedicated to the Mothers' cult, and may show a link between the Mothers and the Anglo-Saxon Modraniht (Yule eve) mentioned by Bede. It was once believed in Germany, that if one had the gout, they could get rid of it by going to a fir tree after sunset and saying a charm on three Fridays in a row.

I borrowed this, with permission, from Arwens Grace. She is the artist from England whose rendition of "The Holly King" will be adorning your Yuletide altar. :)

"The myth of the Holly King/Oak King probably originated from the Druids to whom these two trees were highly sacred. The Oak King (God of the Waxing Year) kills the Holly King (God of the Waning Year) at Yule (the Winter Solstice). The Oak King then reigns supreme until Litha (the Summer Solstice) when the two battle again, this time with the Holly King victorious. Examples of the Holly King's image can be seen in our modern Santa Claus. He dons a sprig of holly in his hat, wears red clothing, and drives a team of eight (total number of Solar Sabbats) reindeer, an animal sacred to the Celtic Gods (deer). Mistletoe and holly came into modern Christmas celebrations through the memorializing of this battle. The holly with berries are hung in honor of the Holly King and mistletoe in honor of the Oak King. Although the Holly King and Oak King are mortal enemies at the two Solstices - Yule and Litha - it should be remembered that they are actually two sides of one whole, and neither would exist without the other." -Arwen's Grace

In the cold darkness of winter, lies the longest night of the year. In the middle ages winter was hard...as harvests bounty ran out long before winters end. They would languish indoors and think on the day when the sun would warm the earth once more.

We welcome back the sun and bid a fond farewell to the Holly King...............

****One Yule offering plate, hand made, Green glazed Pottery by Debbie McNulty- Approx 10" across. The Yule stamp in the middle, as well as the Holly leaves...were a hand carved stamp created just for this plate by Deb. The Holly King wreath loaf fits perfect on it...with the Yule showing up right in the middle! Each offering plate was infused with Pine essential oil...she added it to her throwing water.

****One 5x7 "Holly King" Altar art for representation of the Holly King by Angela Jayne Batnett- Our gift to you. These came all the way from England....I had to have them for this kit. It is one of the most brilliant representations of the Holly King I have ever seen....you will love it!

Another one of my favorites.

This design is so fantastic. A group of men and women dancing naked around a bonfire in a forest. Within the branches, the face of Cernunnos is apparant along with a pentacle within his horns. Full moon high in the sky. The phrase reads " You Pray. We dance naked in the forest."
