This gift certificate is good for $25 towards any Catbooks1940s purchase. Any listing in my Etsy shop, and should your special giftee find something they want in my eBay store, all they need do is drop me a line and I'll apply it towards that as well. If it's vintage, I'll list it here for them.

I also have *loads* of pieces in my inventory that isn't listed, so if they are looking for something in particular and don't see it in my shops, all they need do is let me know what they like (colors, eras, style), their measurements, price range, and vintage joy shall be had.

I will either email them the gift certificate, for uber-speedy delivery, or if you prefer I can snail mail a paper certificate. Either way, the actual certificate (similar to the graphic shown above) will say:

Vintage MISSONI 1970's Knit Mohair Blend Dress Brown S

Chic complex and airy knit vintage Missoni 1970s mohair blend sweater dress, bearing the coveted high end orange label.

Love the undulating pie crust collar :)

It has long sleeves that fasten at the wrists with pale amber Lucite buttons, and fastens on the front in a Henley style bodice with the same. The shape is lightly fitted to the body.

Missoni has long been known for their fabulous and complex knits and use of fine yarns. This dress is a great example. It's blended with soft mohair, so it's slightly fuzzy in the way mohair is, and is done in a light and somewhat open weave (or knit, rather) with randomly scattered small openings, in a large and subtle herringbone pattern. This really gives it a rich and hand-knit look. The overall impression of the color is an earthy burnt brown, flecked with pale blue.

A lovely piece, and as collectible as it is wearable!

Adorable vintage 1960s Vested Gentress belted summer shift dress, with the VG signature scattered throughout the print.

Vested Gentress, if you're unfamiliar, is a much beloved label, collected for their preppy easy-to-wear styles and - most of all - their very cute prints. Similar to Lilly Pulitzer, but IMHO, with a little more pizazz and personality.

This little number is sleeveless, with a scoop neck, A-line skirt, and has a matching belt, and is in a harder-to-find larger size! It's fitted with long darts on the front and back. Crisp white background with a cheerful print of tiny blue polka dots and baskets overflowing with blooming blue forget-me-nots.

Vintage PAULINE TRIGERE Silk Chevron Prnt Secretary Dress L

Beautiful late 1970s to early 1980s silk vintage Pauline Trigere day dress with billowing poet sleeves, and precisely executed chevron print, in navy and white.

This is a rare find - a high end vintage designer piece in a larger size.

The cut is a secretary dress, with its band collar and ties at the neckline, with slit underneath. I *love* how she cut the fabric for the collar, ties, and cuffs as horizontally striped trim. But, she was clever like that. The large chevrons are absolutely *perfectly* matched at the seams, front and back, with the fabric cut on the bias. The silk lining was set in by hand. Typical of Trigere's exacting quality, and why she was the crème de la crème of American designers throughout her long and illustrious career.

The shape of the dress is essentially an A-line, that flares a little fuller than that at the hem. It has hidden inseam pockets on either side, and looking very closely I can see it once had thread belt loops on the sides. Knowing her work, my guess is it once had a matching wide horizontally striped sash. It will look great with any 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inch belt - black or white, or I suppose red if you want to go patriotic, or even brown. The belt I've shown it with is really a bit too much; it needs a plain belt. It has light padding at the shoulders for a beautiful shoulderline. The dress fastens down the back of the neck with small covered buttons and loops. Same at the cuffs of the beautifully full and graceful full poet sleeves.

The Condition: Excellent, with the exception of one flaw so small I nearly missed it. There's a *tiny* pinhole on the right front shoulder on the white part of the print. Since the dress is lined in white silk, it doesn't show when worn. Please see the last photo. Otherwise the dress is immaculate, has been dry cleaned, and is in near mint condition.

Vintage JEAN MUIR Slinky Black Jersey Mini Dress S

Iconic black matte rayon jersey vintage Jean Muir mini dress, with long sleeves.

A classic LBD by a premiere and renown British designer, this piece is flirty due to the mini cut and the rayon jersey with it's lovely movement and body-molding properties. (Matte jersey is a fabric she favored, as do I.)

The cuffs are fairly wide (doubled fabric) and topstitched, with the same treatment around the bottom hem. It has dropped shoulder seams, long sleeves, and a keyhole opening on the back with a slightly smoky clear Lucite button and loop for closure.

This is a highly versatile Muir - easy to wear for day, yet also easily dressed up for evening with deft touches of sparkling jewelry. I've shown it here with a vintage Gucci shoulderbag as a day look. (Not included. Soon to be listed, if you like it.)

The Condition: Very good. There's a small hole on the top layer of the doubled fabric on the right cuff (in other words, there's fabric underneath it), and I just now found another even smaller one below that almost at the edge of the cuff (covered by the pen in the last photo, but it's quite small and difficult to see). There are a couple of faint picks on the skirt near the bottom, but they wouldn't photograph - very minor, you have to look for them. Happily all minor issues no one will notice.

Back in the day, Van Raalte was a premium name in fine lingerie, and it's easy to see why. The details are always lovely, and the fabric is buttery soft nylon. In this case, trimmed in dyed-to-match lace on the bodice. It features a keyhole tie opening, and a demi waterfall front under the keyhole, with a full skirt.

The color is a gorgeous ripe raspberry red with a slight shimmer.

The Measurements: Marked a size large - to 40 bust, to 30 waist, 56 mid shoulder to hem, 114 full sweep on the skirt.

The Condition: Excellent, happily, no flaws.

Vintage 1960's LANVIN Paris Knit Wool Maxi Sweater Dress S / M

Amazing vintage 1960s Lanvin stained glass skirt wool maxi dress, with hand-stitched back zipper.

Back around 1966-67 skinny ribbed sweaters were all the rage. For some reason beyond me, they were called 'poor boy' sweaters. The top of this Lanvin dress is an iconic bright firey orange poor boy sweater, with its ribbing, skinny fit, and scooped neckline, and was designed to look like a sweater with an ethnic/stained glass effect skirt.

The skirt is long and an elongated A-line in shape, with black, purple, violet, grass green, red orange, and an orange sienna brown in wide horizontal stripes that's overstriped in narrow vertical black.

I've never seen a Lanvin from this period like this one. I love the cleverly printed polyester day dresses, and have had a number of them, but this piece is a special vintage Lanvin.

Lemon Yellow Vintage 60's Daffodil Print LILLY PULITZER Skirt L

Spring is here! ... Isn't it? This delightful vintage 1960s Lilly Pulitzer skirt thinks so. Large daffodils frolic about with sprays of tiny ... er, what are they? Perhaps hot pink and peach lily of the valley, with Lilly taking some artistic license. And another flower that looks like poppies.

Trimmed in white daisy lace at the front of the waist, and two bands that go around the hem. I love the bright and cheery canary yellow, contrasting with the lime green of the leaves and stems, and the touches of peach and hot pink. The print is signed in the daffodils. It couldn't say more spring and summer, and you'd have to actively *try* to feel anything other than cheery and fresh wearing it, or just looking at it.

Vintage ESTEVEZ Sequin Goddess Evening Dress Strapless S / XS

Gorgeous strapless sequined bodice vintage evening gown by Coty award-winning designer Luis Estevez.

This is a particularly interesting piece from either the late 1970s or early 1980s, exhibiting design elements of Estevez's work from both eras. It has all the goddess draping of his pieces from the 1970s - graceful draped waterfall front, excellent use of double layers of creped synthetic jersey - and the heavily sequined and boned strapless bodice of the 1980s.

Sexy, yet tasteful (something he was known for), it's an entrance-making dress. The chrome silver sequins on the bodice were sewn in the shapes of large abstracted flowers, and catch the light wonderfully. Very glam.

At the waist is a draped attached wide cummerbund belt that fastens on the back with small covered buttons and loops. From the belt, which is knotted in the center, is a draped waterfall front, which is higher in the front and the skirt gracefully curves down with a double layer of the creped jersey.

If you're looking for a dress to wow everyone for the upcoming holidays - and the year round - I think your search has come to an end, if this beauty is your size.

Edgy and avant garde 1980s new/old stock Pappagallo peep toe mauve leather and snakeskin high heel pumps.

Gorgeous. Fabulous.

LOVE the oh-so-80s sculpted wedge-shaped heels and the geometric snakeskin insets. Plus, great color! Mauve works extremely well as an unusual neutral.

A wonderful pair of head-turning, high quality vintage shoes. I'd wear 'em with ... er, pretty much anything - punch up a suit, showcase with a cocktail dress, even great with jeans. Wear them with whatever you can dream up, and you'll turn heads.

Handpainted Vintage Late 1940s / Early 1950s High Heels Size 8

A fab-u-lous pair of late 1940s to early 1950s high heels with *amazing* hand painted heels. Stylistically, the handpainting looks like tole painting and is of a large rose with leaves, detailed in delicate metallic gold paint.

The shoes themselves were also made by hand by De Luca Debs, in jet black suede, with graceful open toes nicely detailed, and slender slingbacks with adjustable buckle.

Drop-dead gorgeous and a rare fine, in superb condition too!

Ornate Vintage 1950's Blue Wool Ribbon Sweater Cardigan S

Beautiful blue wool vintage 1950s cardigan sweater with lots of ornate scrolled ribbon work.

Check out the shot of the back, too! It's gorgeous. So much work involved manipulating and applying all of that ribbon.

The wool is a lightweight slightly open knit, done in a muted ultramarine blue. The ribbon is ultramarine, and applied lavishly on the front, back and down the sleeves. It has a woven ribbon trim around the hem, cuffs, neckline, and front placket, and it fastens at the throat with a woven ribbon button and loop.

The sleeves are Dolman - not quite batwing, but along that line.

This is a lovely 1950s piece, easily dressed up over a cocktail dress or dressed down over a pair of jeans.

Vintage PAGANNE 1970's Dress Black and White Bold Print M / L

A very striking vintage 1970s Paganne long dress in black and white, with a graphic asymmetric oversized Greek key print that is signed on both the front and back.

I love this dress. To me there's little more chic and striking than black and white, and this piece has a truly great and eyecatching print. It should come as no surprise that Paganne is highly collectible and sought-after. You can see why :)

It features long sleeves that were trimmed in the border print, a Mandarin collar that's also trimmed with the print, and a sexy 20-inch walking slit on the left bottom side.

The standout oversized border print is offset on the right side of the front, and repeats again on the right side of the back. The print itself is bordered (ha, a bordered border print!) with Greek keys and arrowheads, and large abstracted designs in the main part. At the bottom, front and back, it's signed Paganne.

This is one of the biggest repeats I've ever seen. Meaning, the print is HUGE, and therefore repeated infrequently on the fabric. This is a costly and labor intensive process, which is why you don't see it very often. The fabric has to be laid out and cut precisely to fit the design of the dress, and there's a fair amount of waste, which is why these pieces are not very common and were expensive.

Novelty sea shell print vintage Lilly Pulitzer summer skirt from the 1970s. Very, very cute. Love the lime green and white shells - chambered nautilus and sea snails - accompanied by the tiny white abstracted shells, all on a ground of beautiful tropical sky blue.

Lightweight and flirty, it's gathered and pleated at the waist, narrow set in waistband, and the skirt is rather full. Buttons down the front with matching pearly buttons, and - bonus points - it has hidden side seam pockets on either side.

Adorable and cool on a hot summer day, strolling on the sand barefoot at the beach, or running errands with a pair of flip flops or sandals. Very easy to care for too - just toss in the washer, tumble dry for 10 or so minutes, and you're ready to go.

Seriously cute eggplant or aubergine 1970s secretary dress, with contrasting café au lait scattered chevron print in lightweight semi-sheer fabric. Very flirty and swingy skirt, crystal pleated bodice, and I *love* how the matching braided belt at the waist intertwines the two colors.

The front placket and the interior cuffs are lined in the reverse of the fabric - café au lait background with eggplant chevrons - a very nicely done and thoughtful detail. Seriously great vintage swingin' 1960s Mod wool sweater with gigantic paisleys in eye-popping colors.

I heart this sweater soooo much!

Fabulous styling, with its mock turtle neck and check out the oh-so-moderne diagonal zipper on the back left shoulder! Love it. Not to mention the outstanding all-over graphic oversize paisley print, and the colors. Poke-your-eye-out neon orange, hot hot pink, semi-sweet chocolate brown for contrast, and because one color had to be tame for that kind of contrast café au lait beige. Oh yes, well and of course the background is white.

This is a very well made piece, too. It's fully fashioned, meaning the pieces were knit separately and then knit together (you can see where that was done where the sleeves attach). This is a more labor-intensive way of knitting a sweater (which is why only higher end garments were made this way), but it creates a superior fit and shape. Also the zipper (gawd, I love that zipper) was set in by hand, with tiny stitches, which is another mark of a high end piece.

I'd wear this with ... anything, everything! I'd take it out on dates, I'd write it a sonnet ... Okay, *cough*. Specifically, I'd wear it with jeans, a black or brown (or red, or beige, or orange) skirt. Or suit. Or pants. See? Almost everything.

This late 1930's Stanley Korshak dress is a really beauty, in black rayon crepe with pleated carmine red accents at the neckline. Very well made, and obviously a high end piece of the period, it has a Petersham interior grosgrain belt to ensure a perfect fit at the waist and the buttonholes are bound.

It's a shirtwaist style, with covered buttons fastening to the waist. The sleeves are ruched with four pleats at the bottom, and the skirt is long and graceful.

What can I say, it's a classic and elegant late 1930s dress that I sure wish fit me. Manhattan, anyone?

Adorable vintage 1970s Noah's Ark novelty sweater, by novelty sweater designer extraordinaire, CynLes. Two by two, there are embroidered lions, turtles, butterflies, giraffes, fish, a chicken and rooster, sheep, bees marching across the front of the creamy white sweater in a swoopy line. On the left shoulder is a bird without its mate ... but wait! Look on the back. Aha, there's the mate, flying ahead of the line and the first one who'll arrive at the ark right below it.

Down both sleeves, in the CynLes way, are the words "Two by Two" repeated.

I don't know much about CynLes, except that the company was started by a woman whose first name was Cynthia and a man whose first name was Les, and I'm a big fan of their work. They must have had whimsical senses of humor not only in their playful and wonderful novelty sweaters of the period, but also deciding their company name would be a pun. (CynLes. Sinless. Heh, gotta love them.)

They're always a nice skinny fit. Difficult to find them in a larger size, like this one. A great look with jeans, or with a skirt or under a suit for eclectic and fun juxtaposing.

Vintage 1960's Black Velvet Striped Satin BOHO Dress S

Half Old Hollywood silver screen star, half Boho princess, is this dramatic vintage late 1960s jet black velvet dress with black and white slipper satin poet sleeves.

It was designed to fool the eye, appearing to be a v-necked long jumper with a open v-neck long sleeved black and white striped satin blouse underneath, and then the designer added a wide border of the satin around the bottom hem. The sleeves are quite wide, and fasten at the wrists with double snaps.

It's difficult to see because black velvet is the devil to photograph, but the bodice has a (very flattering) wide set-in midriff waist, with bust darts above, and gathers for the full skirt below. I lightened the third shot so you can see.

Although the dress was created in the late 1960s it definitely has borrowed a lot from the late 1930s to early old Hollywood 1940s in style. It's a very beautiful and unusual vintage piece. If dramatic vintage is your thing, you're going to love this one.

I lurrrve these! Wouldn't you know, they fit me perfectly, but I can't wear high heels. Le sigh!

Love the gladiator styling, the high anklestraps (*swoon*), and the basket-woven leather over the vamps. Plus! The beautifully curving heels and those metal studs. Dang, GREAT shoes.

They're very well made, and were made in Italy. Even the holes for the buckle are grommeted so they'll last. And have they lasted, wonderfully. The soles, which are made of a rubbery substance to provide sure footage, show very little wear.

Vintage PAULINE TRIGERE Magenta Wool Princess Dress S / M

Gorgeously chic magenta wool crepe vintage 1980s Pauline Trigere princess dress.

The princess cut has to be The most flattering cut of all, for all women in their wonderful variety of shapes. It fits the torso snugly, skimming, and then flares away from the waist to the hem very gracefully. This Trigere piece is princess seamed (of course) front and back, and sewn exactingly in eight panels, which gives it its beautiful shape.

I especially love the neckline on this dress, with its pie-shaped large notch at the throat which frames the face wonderfully, and the angular cuts at the neck. It has long sleeves that are zippered at the wrists for a perfect fit, long invisible zipper down the back, fully lined (except the sleeves) and the lining around the zipper finished by hand.

Pauline Trigere was one of the true American greats in fashion, and one of the last of her era to design by draping on the model. Her designs, fabrics, and exacting finish work are legend. When you wear Trigere, you are truly wearing fashion history.

Vintage 1950's Blue Reindeer MARY MAXIM Wool Cardigan Sweater XS

Adorable handknit 1950s novelty reindeer and pine tree cardigan sweater made from the famous Mary Maxim pattern. Made of heavy wool yarn with a handstitched lining and the buttonholes were hand-stitched as well. Probably made by someone's loving grandmother in the mid 1950s.

Great colors on this one: vivid French blue, with a cherry red and white pattern of large reindeers and pine trees on the front, sleeves, and the back.

Reindeer sweaters were enormously popular during the 50s and are very difficult to find now. Mary Maxim became famous for their bulky and warm sweater patterns depicting North American wildlife, but reindeers were by far the most popular.

I love that this one's thick and warm, and yet fits close to the body.

WowZA! Amazing pair of vintage 1970s cherry red leather deco detailed platforms with *toweringly* high heels and ankle straps.

Sigh, I love these soooo much.

The elegant and graceful lines of the crossed and tapering bands across the foot are so deco in design, and the heels themselves are dramatic and ... well, just amazing. They even have a sort of tear-shaped inset on the insoles to keep your foot from slipping. (Very thoughtful.)

And did I mention they're red??

I've got to admit I'm going to seriously envy whoever gets these beauties.

Vintage 1980's PIERRE CARDIN Paris Slouchy Wool Bomber Jacket 40

Very cool slouchy wool and leather-trimmed vintage 1980s Pierre Cardin bomber jacket with great detailing and tailoring.

This is the real deal - from Paris, by Cardin, not the licensed stuff he had nothing to do with except his name on the label.

It's made of very fine wool in a beautiful heathered café au lait, with wide buttery soft bittersweet chocolate brown leather bands on either side. Those wide bands are functional - there are double metal snaps at either ends, and you can make the bottom of the jacket fit more loosely or snugly with them.

On either side of the front there are perfectly executed reverse pleats from the waist and a roomy flap pocket above the one on the left (perfect for your cell phone, btw). The sleeves are raglan set, there's a lovely welt seam down the sides of each, and they end in cuffs you can either turn back as shown, or turn down and snap securely around your wrists.

The collar is a fly-back cut that can also be snapped shut to look like a button-down collar (neat, that). Snaps are also at the throat and at the bottom front, the rest fastens down the front with buttons under a hidden placket. Neat reverse pleats on the back too, and it's fully lined.

I'd wear this with jeans for put-together casual, or wide legged wool trousers. It's an unusual, eyecatching and sophisticated vintage jacket by Cardin.

Beautiful vintage 1970s Vanity Fair nightgown with an unusual lace-trimmed midriff cut-out. It has spaghetti straps that cross over on the back (very sexy), lace-trimmed cups, and a graceful A-line skirt.

Vanity Fair was a premium lingerie maker in the day and did extensive advertising in the higher end fashion magazines (Vogue, Harper's, and so on). This piece is made of Qiana nylon, which was A Big Deal back then, one of the new-fangled fabrics that most all the high end designers experimented with at one point.

Long zipper down the back, and a neat single pleat down the center front.

Vintage 1970's Seafoam Green Couture Quality Goddess Dress S

Stunning hand-finished slinky jersey cocktail dress from the 1970s, done in a luscious shade of seafoam green. I really wish it had its original label, because I'd love to know who designed it. Alas, all that remains is the dry clean only tag on the interior waist. The bodice is very cleverly cut. Sleeveless, flattering v-neckline, and cleverly draped and constructed so the fabric itself forms the bust darts. I love that! The two front panels actually begin on the back waist and wrap diagonally to the front, in an almost origami-like construction.

The skirt is a sleek and graceful long tulip shape - a faux wrap, and longer in back than front - with gathers at the waist. It has a slender matching belt with a beautiful white iridescent sequin and silver and clear bugle beads leaf motif embellishment on the center front. The belt threads through several delicate thread loops, and fastens on the back with a hook and bar closure, and a snap - all sewn by hand. It also has lingerie straps hand-sewn into the shoulders to keep your bra or slip strap held perfectly in place. On the interior bodice, the two pieces that create the double V on each side were exactingly hand-tacked together with tiny perfect stitches. I am such a sucker for this level of workmanship, not to mention the cleverness and uniqueness of the design and construction of the gown.

This vintage piece is a beauty, and you can rest assured that no one else will show up at an event wearing your dress.

A fab hard-to-find vintage 1970s halter top, hot pants (shorts), and maxi skirt set by Estivo, with a wild psychedelic black and white print!

Groovy, baby.

I have no idea who Estivo is, and that isn't important. This is what's known in the trade as a 'survival piece.' That is, they're sought after and important because so few of them survived in the passage of time. Hot pants sets were hot and trendy in the early 1970s, but mysteriously, in all of these years of vintage-hunting I've come across ... er, none. Until now.

I love the graphic psychedelic print, with its swirls, diamonds with Xs in them, and thingies that look like a cross section of a kiwi fruit, but with scalloped edges. Hey, it was the 70s, what can I say? (Acid trip, anyone?)

The complete set consists of an adorably sexy cropped midriff halter top that fastens behind the neck with a fabric-covered button. The hot pants are short shorts with a covered elastic waist. The maxi skirt has two snaps at the waist, then a short open area (so as you can get in it), and a sexy curved slit on the front.

This is a real head-turner, perfect for a pool party, just looking hip and groovy (and different) zipping around town, or a night out at the clubs.

Bold Blossoming Tree Print Vintage 60's HELGA Day Dress M

This is *such* a smart, well made little 1960s day dress by Helga. And, miraculously, it's never been worn! You will be the first :-)

Made of polished cotton (a great fabric), with a wonderful bold print of joyous blossoming trees in reds, browns, a green that's somewhere between seafoam and apple green, and splashes of white, on a navy blue ground. The wide tri-colored attached belt matches precisely the red, green, and brown of the print and was pieced together of silk and grosgrain ribbon. Another lovely touch is the sheer blue lining, which I believe is silk organza.

The bodice is darted at the bust, the neckline is round with a deep slit that buttons (or unbuttons, if you prefer, as I do), with tiny silver dome buttons and fabric loops. Full skirt, long sleeves, inseam pockets on the left side, long back zipper, adorable.

It's very Rich Girl Who Lunches, originally sold in the high end Santa Barbara boutique Lou Rose. (And did I mention adorable?)

The Condition: Sigh, this is what I had written: 'MINT! And I don't say that lightly. I mean, it's new old stock and as fresh as if you got into a time travel machine and plucked it straight off Lou Rose's racks 40 or so years ago.' True, except, I just now spotted some faint spots on the skirt. Very difficult to see, as I've had this dress for a number of years, never saw them, didn't see them under the bright photo lights either. I think I was able to capture them in the photo. They're all o n the navy except faintly stained just one of the white flowers on the side near the back. I was able to lighten that with cold water. Anyway, price adjusted down accordingly, and you can see for yourself their faintness in the last (split screen) photo :-)

Fabulous pure cashmere vintage 1960s Hadley soft as butter sweater in a wonderful riff on a button-down shirt design. Can be worn as a cardigan or by itself as a sweater.

Hadley is a very old and revered name in cashmere, making some of the finest cashmere garments ever made. This piece is fully fashioned (read: better and more labor-intensively made), with small dyed-to-match pearly orange buttons down the front, on the cuffs, buttoning down the lapels of the collar and on the back. The placket and inner neckline are backed with grosgrain.

I'd wear it as a cardigan with a white shirt underneath and indigo wash jeans, but it looks just as great with a skirt and worn as a buttoned sweater. Love this poP of saturated deep, almost firey, orange!

Wow, what a dress! I've never seen one like this before in many years of dealing in (not to mention living in) vintage.

This is an early vintage Karen Okada Climax cocktail dress, from the late 70s. Jet black slinky jersey with an amazing dramatic double feather bow at hip level (a feather BOW?!) that curves gracefully to the left side. Center of the bow is set off with a rhinestone piece and actually the whole thing is essentially a brooch that comes off when you want to clean it. From the left hip a taffeta ruffle winds sinuously to the hem, and then back up to the opposite hip on the back. Long batwing sleeves that are ruched at the wrists, and keyhole on the back closes with a prong-set rhinestone button and loop.

It's slinky, sensual, and a real entrance-maker. If you don't mind turning heads and getting a lot of attention, and your style is unusual (and sexy) vintage, this one's got *your* name on it.

Sculptural Vintage 60's Apple Green DESIGNER Gown Dress M

A beautiful apple green long summer dress by Belgian designer Philippe Tournaye, who trained with the noted French couturier Jacques Fath in the early 1950s, and then came to the U.S., where he established himself as a designer of note in the 1960s in the fashion world.

The shapes are all sculptural womanly simplicity, with the complex and curving bodice, snugly fitted waist, and graceful gathered skirt. Love the narrow straps, the deeply plunging curved neckline with semi-modest modesty panel, shapely princess seams, and the pert tie bow setting off the center. Not to mention the beautiful textile Tournaye chose for this piece - a polished cotton twill in fresh apple green.

The construction is lovely and substantial, as you'd expect from someone who studied with Fath - interior grosgrain Petersham belt so it fits *just* perfectly at the waist (see the label shot for a glimpse of that), and 6 inches of dyed to match organza gathered under the interior waistband to keep the gathers of the skirt standing just the right amount away from the body. You just don't see this kind of attention to detail and quality in modern clothing, and only in high quality vintage.

Vintage ISSEY MIYAKE Edgy Avant Garde 70s/80s Paper Airplane Jacket S

Issey Miyake was one of the kings of avant garde in the late 1970s and 1980s. Well, and he still is. One of a short list of truly great Japanese designers from this period, who did very interesting cutting edge work.

This piece is from the late 70s or early 80s, made in Japan (including the fabric, which was and is one of his particular interests), bearing his calligraphic brushstroke label. Borrowing heavily from mens wear, he chose a lightweight wool/rayon blend pinstriped textile - black with charcoal and contrasting light tan stripes.

It features a 'paper airplane' front, with two wings that button with single buttons, if you choose. I prefer them left unbuttoned. It's severe, tailored, and yet slightly slouchy all at the same time. Beautifully made, with *perfectly* matched chevrons on the back, back vent, Hong Kong bound interior seams, and hand stitched lining on the sleeves. The shoulders are lightly padded.

I'd wear it with slouchy wide leg pants and heels, for a sort of updated edgy Annie Hall look. But of course it'd work well with a pencil skirt or even jeans.

Chic Tweed Mohair Vintage 1960's Plaid Suit Size S to M

Fabulously chic colorful complex mohair tweed plaid vintage early 1960s suit, with doublebreasted crop jacket. So Jackie O, so Chanel!

The jacket has a wedding ring collar that attaches on the left with hooks and eyes and a dressmakers snap. Very light padding at the shoulders. Love the large black decorative buttons. On the back is a half-belt, also set off on either side by the same decorative buttons. The skirt is A-line, and both pieces are lined in that lovely rayon crepe of the period, in forest green.

But the star of the show is beyond question the fabric! It's a complex weave in amazing colors - turquoise, apple green, golden browns, gray, and black. It looks and feels very rich, and undoubtedly was expensive. This suit came from the closet of a woman who was something of a clotheshorse back in the day, with superb taste. She had Davidow, B. H. Wragge, and other vintage delights.

This suit is a real head-turner. Really beautiful, and so very uptown.

Deep Rose Vintage 1980's AQUASCUTUM Raincoat Swing Coat M

Ooh, beautiful vintage Aquascutum swing raincoat from the 1980s. Love the color! Muted dark rose pink, which is actually a good, yet interesting, neutral color. It has a curved yoke front and back, with gathers under the yoke, and then falls open to a very full swing coat.

Small collar you can turn up, as I've shown it here, with button at the throat and pearlized dyed to match buttons down the front. It has two pockets on the front near the sides, with thread belt loops and a matching sash. I've styled it here with a wide gold belt (sorry, not included, it's mine :), and also shown you it with its matching sash in the close-up shot.

If you're unfamiliar with Aquascutum, it's a very high quality, high end British maker of fine raincoats. So well regarded, it has on their labels that they're made by appointment to HRM, The Queen.

This lovely coat is quite dramatic both in color and it's very full swing shape. There are small pads at the shoulder (probably it's early 80s), and it's fully lined in dyed to coordinate fabric that feels like acetate taffeta.

Meet the rainy season in style, I say!

All the slinky, sultry sex appeal of a 1920s flapper in her boudoir, 1970s style. This enticing little piece of vintage lingerie confection will make you feel like a silver screen vamp, whether you're lounging in it in your boudoir, or wearing it as a cami (please *do* show a hint of the beautiful lace, please).

The heart-shaped illusion Chantilly lace bodice makes it perfect for a Valentine's Day surprise. The body of it is made of silky very soft ebony black nylon tricot. Utterly charming is this low scoop-necked vintage 1970s Victor Costa peasant-inspired midi dress. And right on trend, too with its double-ruffled collar, ruffled sleeves, and ruffled hem. Plus, you know, midis are hot!

Back in the day, Victor Costa established himself in the industry by being sent to Paris by American clothing manufacturers to see what was happening on the runways, and then coming back to copy the newest, hottest Parisian couture designs. He was very, very good at it. In 1974, he began his own label, and this dress is one of his early creations.

Love the full swishy skirt, and it has a matching sash belt. The garden floral print is colorful and fresh, with large Iceland poppies and other flowers strewn about.

With this piece you could go uber casual barefoot (think running through the grass), or dress it up with a pair of strappy high heel sandals.

Are these not fabulous?? Gah!

Straight from the 1980s, they are like a (wild) party for your feet!

On the sides of either heel is a large three-dimensional fuchsia leather flower with cobalt blue insets on each petal, and large faceted clear gems. The petals are wired, so you can arrange them however you like. A curving green stem is stitched on top of the gold mesh on the sides and attaches to three small flowers in firey orange, yellow, and fuchsia on the vamp. Those flowers also have faceted clear lucite stones. Trimmed in metallic gold leather with leather high heels. They're slingbacks, with covered elastic on the backs for a comfortable fit. Made by Zelo.

Pretty darned amazing, aren't they? And, it's a guarantee NO ONE else will have shoes like yours. Warning: Not those who aren't comfortable with getting a lot of attention.

The Measurements: Marked a size 7M, and they fit true to size. (I know, since I'm a classic size 7M.) 9 3/4s inches heel to toe on the insole, following the contour of the insole. 2 7/8ths on the widest part of the ball of the sole (but they really fit wider, because the gold mesh expands), 3 1/2 high heels.

The Condition: Just light wear on the soles, and a couple of small dings on the heels. Oh yes, also some of the lucite stones aren't as shiny as they originally were, but you'd have to be looking pretty closely to notice that. Overall they read as being in excellent condition. See photos.

Fabulous 1960s Mod at its best! Very well made and Rich Girl Chic. Unusual mid-1960s Mod pumps from noted Italian shoe designer Sesto Meucci for Bullock's.

Soft fine jet black suede leather with *wonderful* unusual goldtone with red and black enameled squares faux hinges on either side of the vamps, and a goldtone with red enamel inset that wraps around the heels. I've been in the vintage biz a long time and have never seen a pair like these before. If you're into Mod, appreciate high quality, and love want you wear to be unique, these beauties are calling your name!

Gold Silver Vintage 1960's Metallic Striped Knit Evening Gown M

Sleek and chic is this long metallic gold and silver lame* vintage 1960s evening gown. It's very substantial and well made. In fact at first I thought it might be a Norell, but no. The rayon crepe lining was set in by hand along the long back zipper, done in exacting stitches.

* Pretend the accent is over the E in lame ;)

I love the elegant minimalist lines of this piece. It has a standing collar, sleeveless, and skims the body as it gracefully widens towards the hem. The slender horizontal stripes are alternating shimmering gold and silver metallic.

A fabulous entrance-making evening gown with a touch of Mod that will catch the eye but not hit people over the head, and is instantly recognizable as vintage. It's like Marilyn gone Mod.

I'd wear it with oversize silver mod hoop earrings, sleeked back hair, silver heels, and a wide gold cuff bracelet. The belt I've shown it with is from the 1980s. Not included unless you've truly fallen for it, then feel free to convo me about it.

Shimmering Ivory Satin FRENCH CUFF Vintage 50's Blouse Large

A very pretty suit blouse from the late 1950s by Bozart. (Don't ask me, I'd never heard of Bozart before.) It's done in shimmering ivory satin with a notched collar and three large pearly buttons fastening down the front with a covered hook and eye at the waist. These diagonal *and* vertical bust darts that they used back then give a very flattering tailored fit. (Manufacturers don't do this anymore because it's too labor-intensive. Meh.) And, French cuffs! I heart French cuffs :). You'll need a pair of cufflinks for it, but may already have a pair or more in your jewelry box. If not, it'll give you an excuse to get some. I love cufflinks! You can so easily change the whole look and feel of your outfit with them, and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

The Condition: Very good, with a few minor flaws. There's a faint pull in the fabric a good 4-5 inches below the bottom button (won't show at all if you tuck it in, but it's unobtrusive to begin with), and 3-4 small pinpricks on the back center, below the collar. Oh. I just noticed 3 more just like the ones I just explained, on the back of the collar. So imagine them, but on the back of the collar :).

Beautiful navy blue soft suede leather baby doll high heels from the late 1940s, and what's unusual about them is the slender strap. Usually baby doll heels are pumps. The high heels are beautifully shaped. More graceful than wartime shoes, they were designed to be worn with the wasp-waisted, full-skirted and narrow-shouldered post-war New Look dresses.

Gorgeous avant garde vintage 1980s black suede with white detailing high heels by one of the top noted shoe designers of the 20th century, Andrea Pfister.

Made of soft jet black suede with an edgy jagged detail right above the vamp, and lots of geometric white topstitching with punchwork that shows white beneath it. Love the signature lipstick red leather interiors.

Pfister worked in Paris, designing shoes for Lanvin and Patou when he was only 21. His witty, unusual designs and high quality workmanship in them have made his name in the fashion world, and his shoes highly sought after.

Fabulous 40's Style Two-Tone Vintage 70's DISCO GODDESS Dress S / M

I kid you not, I gasped when I saw this dress. It's one of The Best 1970s dresses I've ever seen! Back then there was a 1940s revival in fashion but those pieces are very difficult to find now, and holy crow, this dress has it in spades, with *wonderful* detailing.

LOVE the two-tone design - mauve on the bodice and asymmetrical long peplum, deep plum on the skirt. Sexy surplice (aka faux wrap) deep v-neckline with dramatic ruched shoulders trimmed with a mauve and plum braiding. The matching belt is made same braided fabric, and a plum piping finishes off the cuffs of the peasant-inspired sleeves. There's also a sexy long slit on the left side so people can get an enticing peep at your gams when you walk. I mean, saunter. Yeah, this dress is definitely meant for sauntering.

The fabric is delicious. Luxurious soft and slinky poly jersey. This is the high quality stuff with *fabulous* drape, and this goddess dress has puh-lenty of dramatic drape.

This is what I call a real entrance-making dress. Amazing piece. I envy its lucky new owner, and that's the dayumed truth.

Cropped Vintage 60's Little Black Tuxedo Rhinestone Button Jacket XS

Well, well, well. Isn't this cute? An ultra cropped, shrunken look vintage 1960s tuxedo inspired jacket in black satin with two sparkling rhinestone buttons on the pockets. Beautifully finished, too. The lining was set in by hand, in tiny perfect stitches. The two (faux) flap pockets have a seam in the center, making them *look* like inverted pleats but in fact do function as real pockets on the sides closest to the center. (I think I just confused myself with that description. Bottom line is there are real pockets.) Closes up the front with three oversize dressmaker's covered snaps.

It's quite fitted and well tailored, with princess seams both front and back.

I'd wear it with black crepe (for textural contrast) wide legged high waisted pants. Or over a dress that needs some zing. Or, yeah, even with jeans.

The Measurements: 34 inches bust, 15 shoulder to shoulder, 20 sleeves, 15 mid shoulder to hem.

The Condition: Overall quite fresh and excellent, all rhinestones present and accounted for and sparkly. It does have a (non-fatal) flaw: a couple of small pulls in the fabric that are DARNED hard to see (and photograph!) just above the pocket on the left. Magnified photo above. Just looking at the jacket in outside light, they're very minor and not at all obvious and the jacket otherwise looks pristine.

Wide Bold Cobalt Blue Vintage 80's AZTEC Face Buckle Novelty Belt L

Great belt! Made of wide saturated cobalt blue vinyl, with an unusual large silvertone novelty belt buckle of an Aztec face (or is he Mayan?) wearing an elaborate headdress. That's some hat you got there, fella. His eyes and mouth are cut out, giving it even more dimension than it already has. Darned neat vintage 1980s belt.

It fastens on the back with three snaps, so the waist is somewhat adjustable, should you put on or take off a few pounds. The belt buckle is on a slider, so you can move it to either side, or dead center.

The Measurements: Marked a size 12, which seems about right for modern sizing although a size 10 could wear it. Adjustable from 30.25 to 31.5 inches around, just shy of 2 1/2 inches wide; the buckle is 2 1/4 wide by 3 inches high.

The Condition: Very good. No actual flaws on the belt itself, just a slight sense of 'it's vintage.' The buckle has a ding on the surface on the bottom right side, which you can see in the photos.

Crayon Yellow BIG Collar and Winged Cuffs Vintage 70's Shirt Dress M

Sleek and chic, with an edge, that's what this is.

A 1970s Carlo Conde shirt dress with dramatic edgy pointy collar and extra wide turn-back wing cuffs, in bright and cheerful crayon yellow. Love the tiny gathers under the yoke, the color, and of course the collar and unusual big cuffs.

It has thread belt loops on either side at the waist, so undoubtedly it originally came with a matching fabric sash. But I, who tend to prefer everything belted - including belts - found that once I had this on Ms Frenchy, I like it best unbelted. So I'd just snip off the belt loops. But I leave that decision to you.

I've paired it here with a chunky necklace, which isn't included. (Sorry.)

The Measurements: 39 inches bust, 36 waist, 41 hips, 15 shoulder to shoulder, 24 sleeves, 41 mid shoulder to hem. Marked a vintage size 12, but fits my modern size 4/6 French form well and would probably fit up to a modern size 8, but do check the measurements.

Very chic cropped Chanel-style knit jacket by St. John for Saks. It's done in a deep Prussian blue with a beautiful pop of contrasting bright magenta chenille hash mark trim around the collar, down the front, around the cuffs and around the hem. Puffed sleeves stay in place due to the interior shoulder lifts, and it has lightly padded shoulders.

Coco Chanel make this smart style of open knit cardigan jacket so famous, they are now called 'Chanel style jackets.' St. John did them, as did Adolpho.

I've shown it here with a cute little 80s tie crop blouse underneath. It'd be great with a high-waisted pencil skirt or pants. A very uptown piece that balances sleek and stylish.

Vintage 1950's LEWIS Black Velvet and Floral Jacquard Handbag

Lovely black vintage 1950s velveteen and floral jacquard striped Lewis framed handbag. Lewis always made well constructed purses with interesting designs.

There's a sort of double pleat detail on either side of the front and back, and the handles extend up from them. On the front there are two horizontal velvet strips near the top. The clasp is a somewhat chunky rounded triangle shape in Florentined gold, that closes with a satisfying click. Two exterior pockets, and inside one zippered pocket with a gold-piped compartment below it. Lined in black satin.

This charming 1950s Lewis bag isn't so dressy that it can't be used for day, but is dressy enough that it also makes a beautiful and eye-catching cocktail bag.

I LOVE THESE SHOES AND WOULD HAVE KILLED FOR THEM BACK WHEN.

There, better.

These are a sexy and elegant high-heeled, peep-toed take on Mexican Huaraches, with late 1940s/early 1950s revival styling added in, and done in the 1970s. Made of natural leather that's been glazed and subtly distressed. Fabulously sky-high sexy stacked heels. They're detailed with woven leather on the vamp, and whipstitching. Made in Brazil, the maker is Predictions. I ENVY the heck out of you if you can wear these. They're the best I've seen, and that's not hyperbole.

The Measurements: 9.5 inches heel to toe on insole, 3 1/8 widest part of ball of foot on the sole, 3 5/8ths heel (just shy of 4 inches!). (Marked a vintage size 7AA on the soles, but based on how they fit my size 7 feet, best on a modern 6.5 foot. Er, feet.)

The Condition: Excellent. A few subtle surface blemishes, and that's it in the flaws department. I suppose you could have them buffed out, but quite honestly they are supposed to be lightly distressed anyway, and I'd leave them exactly as they are. Just light wear on the soles.

Ooh, *love* these! Fabulous pair of 1970s leather 'bangle bracelet' stacked wedge heels from Geoffrey Beene, his Beene Bag line.

The colors are fab - flame orange (a darkish orange red), olive green, and a metallic bronze. Love that the insoles are metallic copper, too. They're slides, with that beautifully arched real stacked leather wedge heels.

Beene loved his Beene Bag line, and considered it second only to his main line. The quality is excellent on these, and the color combo and design are wonderful. Love the neutrals with that terrific poP of color in the firey orange red. These are centerpiece shoes, that will make an otherwise ho-hum outfit shine.

Beautiful vintage late 1970s DVF silk dress in a baby leopard print! The bodice is her signature wrap style, with gathers at the bust, and a self-sash that threads through a slit on the side and ties on the left side of the waist.

Long sleeves, face-framing v-neckline, the skirt is gathered at the waist, and the neckline and sash are piped with chocolate brown. The silk is featherweight and lovely. And there are hidden inseam pockets on either side of the skirt.

A really lovely (and collectible) vintage Diane Von Furstenberg with a great print!

Very chic New York uptown girl vintage Adolfo jet black knit wool boucle crop military jacket with braid trim and large ornate cast gold-tone buttons.

It's oh so Chanel, which is one of the things Adolfo was known for - his jackets and suits that were an homage to Chanel.

Impeccably made, with large dressmakers snaps that fasten under the decorative beautiful buttons. The knit-covered small interior pads at the shoulders, union label, and 100% wool content tag indicates this piece is from the later 1970s, possibly the early 1980s.

It's substantial and warm, and looks amazing with anything from jeans to over a cocktail dress. This is an investment piece. If you're looking for high quality that will last - and look fabulous - for many years, and this is your size, you are in luck!

If you're really going to do this slinky jet black and metallic gold 1970s disco shirt right, that means daring to leave the top 5 buttons unbuttoned and wear at least 5 gold chain necklaces. I guarantee the doorman *would* let you in ;)

This is late 1970s glam, with an amusing novelty print of gold metallic sequins. Trompe l'oeil, meaning 'to fool the eye,' and that it does. It's only when you look closely you notice the print is strung sequins. Very cute! Buttons down the front with small glossy black buttons, ditto the cuffs.

Made by Maygene, with a great graphic logo that is SO iconic of the late 70s. No fabric content or size tags. Probably a polyester, slinky and slightly sheer.

It would make a fabulous piece to wear to holiday parties (ooo, great for New Year!), and an attention-getter the rest of the year with jeans, or to snazz up a boring suit.

The Condition: Excellent, except for some of the metallic has come off on the fold of the collar on the inside. You can see that for yourself in the last photo.

I heart Maude Frizon! A beautiful pair of vintage 1980s Maude Frizon pumps in dark green suede with raptor-like black striations and sculptural high heels.

She had to have been inspired by dinosaurs (raptors in particular) when she designed these. Even the heels (which have an unusual triangular heel tap) say that: sculptural, sleek, and untamed ;)

Gorgeous! This little dream of a party or cocktail dress is from the 1960s, designed by esteemed designer, Mollie Parnis.

A whoosh and swirl of double fine jet black silk chiffon over a lining of silk, with delicate fine net black lace as a playful ruffle around the collar in a nod to the peasant look. The sleeves are made of the sheer lace, with *triple* bells at the wrists that were cut in more than a full circle. No zippers or fastenings, this confection slips on easily over your head.

I personally like tent dresses belted, so have shown it here with a glossy wide moc croc vinyl belt, and yes, the belt comes with it. (The quality of the modern belt doesn't match the fine quality of the dress, but it does go very nicely with it and I love the contrast of the gloss with the chiffon.) However, you are certainly free to play with it as you like, and wear it in all its swishy free glory, HUGE sweep free from the shoulders right down to the hem.

The measurements are: 40 inches at the bust (remember, it's not supposed to fit snugly at the bust, so think in terms of you being a 35-36 or so bust) , 15 inches shoulder to shoulder, 24 sleeves, 45 shoulder to hem, and a HUGE 160 inch sweep on the outer layer of chiffon.

Its condition is: Excellent! Nary a flaw, save the small (as in 3/4s of an inch) mend under the lace collar on the left side where the top layer of chiffon had come loose from the seam. Mended by hand with my own two little hands, and I did a good job, even if I do say so myself :-)

What a great dress! From the early 1970s, a long, sleek and sexy maxi dress with a big prong-set rhinestone butterfly front and center. The body is amber, and the wings are of water-clear rhinestones, with bottle green bugle beads for antennae. (Oddly enough, it also has a set of antennae on the bottom. Don't ask, I have no idea.)

Beautifully curved seam at the raised waist (or lowered empire, whichever) with gathers under the bust and a dog-collar neck with revealing cut-away shoulders. Very similar to a halter, in fact many would call it that. The back is also very sexy. Made of that wonderful slinky polyester jersey from the 70s in jet black, which makes the butterfly pop wonderfully.

This one you can wear either for day, or accessorize and wear it out for evening. Either way, you're going to be attracting lots of attention :)

Sweet and yet daringly sexy (such a fatal combination, don't you think?) is this vintage 1970s Miss Elaine low cut nightgown, with a saucy *very* low cut back.

Tigers Cheetahs and Zebras Oh My - Vintage 70's Body Shirt XS

If you've been in my shop before, you'll already know what a big fan I am of these 1970s body shirts because the fit is so flattering, and the good ones have great prints!

This one happens to be by one of my favorite Californian designers of the 70s, Joyce Stevens. The animal novelty print (with accompanying bower of flowers) is wonderful! There are zebras, tigers, cheetahs, and even a giraffe peeking over the right shoulder (and another one of him on the interior of the collar). I also love how she centered the large zebra on the back, with the cheetah peeking around the side at bottom right, and the protector tiger ready to swat anyone who might bug you on the front right.

For the flora, we have calla lilies, hibiscus, large tiger lilies (heh), bird of paradise, exotic orchids, something that looks like it might be a protea, and several other flowers I can't identify.

I recommend wearing it with some skinny jeans or a skirt (black would really make it pop), and not as Ms. Frenchy the French form is wearing it, sans bottoms ;)

Fitted Vintage Mid 50s Detailed Wool Checked Jacket M

Isn't this cute? The styling looks very 1940s, but given the lack of shoulderpads I'm dating it more conservatively to the mid-50s. This is vintage sportswear, which is difficult to find because usually these pieces were worn into rags.

Beautifully tailored for a figure-flattering fit (F.F.F.), with fitted waist, large notched lapels that are classic 40s, and nicely detailed with three welt pockets set on the diagonal - two on the hips, one above the bust. It's got turnback wing cuffs, too, which is one of my favorite details from this period. Embroidered keyhole buttonholes, and three buttons fasten up the front.

Love the fabric, a nice mid-weight wool in a very small tri-tone windowpane plaid in dark cream, latte, and taupe brown. Very nice job of matching the plaid, which is a mark of a quality garment. Fully lined. It'd be great with a taupe pencil skirt, and of course this style never fails to please with jeans.

The Measurements: 38 inches bust, 33 waist, 16.5 shoulder to shoulder, 23.5 sleeves, 25 mid shoulder to hem.

The Condition: Well, I *thought* the exterior was flawless, but at the 11th hour found two small (1/8th or so inch) moth holes. One is on the ... looking for them. Ok, one's on the back of the right sleeve, near the elbow. The other is on the left sleeve near the shoulder, about 3-4 inches down from shoulder seam. The lining had a few places where the hand-stitching had come undone, and I mended them by hand. Not that you'd know this to look at it, but I'm telling you anyway :). I'm offering it at a very friendly price due to the two small moth holes. Dang, it's cute!

ADORABLE Floral Border Print Vintage 70's Day Dress S / M

This dress is so darned *cute* I can hardly stand it. And, it's as saucy and sexy as you want it to be. I've shown it in the first two photos in its most low-cute saucy mode, but because it's got a hook and eye a bit more than mid-way down the (very flattering) V-neckline, you can easily go visit the folks wearing it. No raised eyebrows. See the third shot for that.

Adorable day dress from the 1970s. I LOVE the flowered wide border print around the hem. Love. It. The rest of the dress is liberally sprinkled with bouquets of flowers throughout, and the fabric is a soft lightweight cotton or cotton blend jersey. Easy care, easy to wear.

It's got a standing collar, which is particular favorite with me. The surplice or faux wrap bodice with gathers on the yoke, elastic shirring around the wrists with a small ruffle, and a wide band of shirring around the waist. Also encircling the waist is, miraculously, a matching slender tie belt that has *not* parted ways with the dress! As they so often do, you know. I also love the full and swingy skirt - feels great when you move. Okay, so overall I just love the dress, and that, as they say, is that.

Do your own thing, wear vintage because it's unique and green. Follow your own instincts for what's a great style (and isn't) and most importantly, what looks good on YOU. Because that's what matters :)

Vintage 1970s Ultra Full Sweep Skirt Silky Soft Nylon Nightgown

Exquisitely delicious pale mint green color on this 1970s with original hang tags vintage all-nylon nightgown. Deep low-cut v-neckline with empire waist and a tie bow in the center. Wide waterfall front (should I call it Niagara?), with gathers at the bust, same sexy low v on the back, and a wonderfully full sweep skirt!

Never before worn - you'll be the first - two with attached hang tags. One's the 'Made with Pride in the U.S.A., the other's from the maker, Carriage Court. On the empire waist on the interior, both front and back, is elastic so it's very comfortable and gives a great fit. The color is beautiful, pale mint green that leans towards aqua, and there's a very subtle shimmer in the soft and silky nylon fabric.

The Condition: Unworn and excellent with the exception of one pick and a faint lipstick smudge near the hem and left side seam. (See last photo.) Obviously I couldn't launder this, as it's new/old stock, but am confident the lipstick smudge will come out if you put a dab of detergent on it, rub, and wash. There's also slight dust marks here and there on the bottom hem. Laundering will easily remove that and I doubt you'd even have to spot it first.

Vintage CHANEL Early 1970's Silk Drawstring Cocktail Dress S / M

Timelessly elegant, stylish and chic vintage 1970s Chanel dress, in black silk plisse with clever monastic styling.

It was very smart, and thoughtful, to design this LBD (one of the iconic pieces of dress to which Chanel laid claim to inventing) with an adjustable drawstring waist with black cord and a ball on the end. As this is pret-a-porter Chanel, designing the dress with an adjustable waist so the wearer could adjust the right fit herself, as well as allowing for gaining or losing a few pounds, was clever. I'm also personally fond of the severe but elegant monastic style.

The long metal Éclair zipper on the back was set in by hand in tiny delicate stitches, as was the piping around the jewel neckline. The bodice has bust darts and was designed to be worn blouson. Long sleeves, with 2-inch slits at the wrists that are tacked about half an inch in from the hem.

Vintage LILLI ANN Late 1950's Olive Taupe Boucle Jacket M

Charming wool boucle vintage Lilli Ann jacket from the late 1950s. Love the wide turnback cuffs that echo the wide face-framing shawl collar, and its interesting neutral color, which is about dead center between olive green and taupe brown.

It has princess seams both front and back, so it's well tailored and nicely fitted. The hem is curved so it's shorter in the front and gracefully extends down 3 more inches on the back. Fully lined in sienna brown rayon crepe.

Lilli Ann pieces are sought after and collected by vintage aficionados, and have been for years. The wonderful fabrics, construction, and styles are why, and they were sought after in the day for the same reasons.

Adolph Schuman was Lilli Ann; there was no actual Lilli Ann except his first wife Lillian, for whom he named the company, which started and was based in San Francisco. After World War II, Schuman essentially single-handedly rescued the high end textile mills in France that were teetering on the brink of closure in the years following the war. These mills made fabrics used by the top French couturiers - Chanel, Balenciaga - and later by Lilli Ann. The French government was so appreciative, they awarded him with a Chevalier in the Legion d'Honneur.

The Condition: Very good. Its only flaw is the crepe backs on the covered buttons are worn and the crepe separating in places to reveal the metal backs. Doesn't show or affect wearability, as the buttons are attached by shanks and thread. On this one I'd recommend dry cleaning. All surface dust has been removed, but a dry cleaning would freshen it. Unfortunately I don't have a dry cleaner here I trust with older vintage, else I'd have had it done myself.

Black Vintage TRAVILLA 1980's Illusion Lace Chiffon Cocktail Dress M

Exquisite black vintage Travilla cocktail dress with illusion Chantilly lace bodice and underskirt that's covered with a many-paneled silk chiffon floating carwash skirt. The exaggerated sweetheart neckline is *very* sexy and low cut, with the large poppy Chantilly lace above.

The same beautiful poppy lace peeks out when the wearer moves, and the chiffon panels of the skirt move. Under the lace on the skirt is a layer of 'nude' silk chiffon.

The bodice is probably silk crepe, also in jet black, with decorative buttons down the front beginning under the very low point of the sweetheart neckline, and there are three of the buttons at the wrists of the long sleeves. It has a dropped and fitted waist, with the chiffon panels of the skirt starting at the top of the hip and fluttering gracefully down. There are princess seams on the front and long tailored seams on the back for an hourglass shape. Very small pads attached at the shoulder heads

Fully lined, with a hand-stitched hem. It's so beautifully made and finished, it could be worn inside out.

William Travilla was a Californian designer, best known for his costume designs for Marilyn Monroe, including the famous 'Happy Birthday, Mr. President' dress and her iconic subway dress from 'Some Like It Hot.' She was his favorite star to design for, but also designed for Joan Crawford, Loretta Young, Diahann Carroll, and a host of other Hollywood greats.

A gorgeous vintage cocktail dress by a Hollywood legend.

(P.S. This would make a *fabulous* dinner-and-dance dress. Amazing on the dance floor.)

A beautiful, elegant vintage 1960s St. John Knits princess cut dress in bubble gum pink, with openwork standing collar and decorative knit trim around the hem.

These are the pieces that Marie St. John started and founded what is now her high end fashion empire, back in the 1960s in California, with one knitting machine. They were a huge hit, and now every high end department store carries her lines, and Angelina Jolie is her model.

It's no wonder they were such a smash hit. The knits are flattering, and this princess cut with A-line skirt is the most flattering and wearable cuts of all for any figure type.

True bubblegum pink, with a crocheted standing collar, sleeveless, with four seams magically worked into the skirt for it's swingy A-line shape. Around the hem is a decorative knit trim. Oh wait, I already said that. Long nylon zipper down the back and hooks and eyes at the top.

Easy to wear, comfortable and elegant. Pair it with a neutral jacket (taupe is wonderful, or black), tights, and a pair of boots, and you're ready to go anywhere.
