Searching for the Perfect Pumpkin by the Light of the Crescent Moon is a Stacy Nash Primitives design. The little lantern is perfect for leading the way…

The pinkeep pillow measures 5 by 5 inches. It is backed with a coordinating reproduction cotton print, aged, edged with little “x’s” and has an antique key attached with an old safety pin. As with all my creations it is completely handstitched.

Blessings, Patti

Joseph and Emily Marshall

$25.00
Years ago I enjoyed scherenschnitte – intricate papercutting. As time went by, other mediums drew me away (mainly needlework) and I didn’t pick up my scissors for a long time. Recently the papercuttings and silhouette paintings of many of the talented Etsy artists inspired me to pick up my scissors again. However paper didn’t have the same appeal to me that it once did. I thought of how I really preferred to work with wool and decided I would try something new and uniquely me – “Scherenschnitte in wool”! I’m hooked!

This offering is a pair of silhouettes - Joseph Marshall and his older sister, Emily. Imagine how happy their mother would have been to receive these silhouettes of her beloved children as a gift!

These silhouettes are mounted on a piece of antique, worn cotton bedcovering. Their names are primitively stamped on aged muslin and stitched to the background. The pillows are also backed with the same aged muslin. As with all of my work, these pillows are completely hand sewn. The pillows measure approximately 5 by 7 inches.

Vincent's Sunflowers tablemat

We were so delighted to learn of a Van Gogh exhibit that year at the Art Institute of Chicago. The exhibit was incredible and a special experience for us to share. Although my son’s favorite sunflower painting was not present, I remember the joy of viewing several other Van Gogh sunflower paintings in person.

Vincent’s Sunflowers table mat is the first in a series of monthly Winding Vine Design original tablemats. The mat measures approximately 15 ½ inches by 20 inches including the tongues. It is made of hand-dyed wools and vintage army blanket hand sewn to a solid chocolate brown wool background and edged in hand-dyed perle cotton. The sunflower petals are not sewn down so as to add depth and movement. The mat is backed with a golden green flannel ticking and an antique blue ticking fabric tag that says:
sunflowers ~ marking time
following the sun
across the sky…
(c) pag / wvd 2008

It is created to celebrate the memory of our special visit to the Van Gogh exhibit many years ago and to anticipate the beautiful autumn season yet to come.

Laura's Orchard

$45.00
This is the time for apple picking and then the wonderful baking that follows…

My friend, Laura, has a wonderful weekend farm complete with a small apple orchard. We usually visit the farm in early July and search for the little green apples that have formed imagining what the harvest will be in a few short months. Fall is such a busy time with the return to the school routine, that there isn’t time to return to Laura’s Orchard. Instead we sneak away for a few short sunny hours on a Sunday afternoon after church to do our apple picking at a local orchard.

Laura’s Orchard table mat is the second in a series of monthly Winding Vine Design original tablemats. The mat measures approximately 11 ½ inches by 17 ½ inches including the tongues. It is made of hand-dyed wools and vintage army blanket hand sewn to a solid black wool background and edged in hand-dyed faux suede yarn. The mat is backed with a botanical apple cotton print and an antique blue ticking fabric tag that says:
“Before green apples blush,
Before green nuts embrown,
Why, one day in the country
Is worth a month in town…”
-Christina Rossetti
(c) pag / wvd 2008

This mat looks wonderful as a table mat, or on an antique dry sink. Most of my mats end up on the backs of my chairs or on our velvet loveseat in front of our fireplace. The mats stick well, just by laying them against the back of the chairs – no pins are needed.
