These dark bangles were inspired by the deep colors of the midwinter Alaskan sky. The peyote woven beads around each of the bracelets are a silver lined amber brown- reminiscent of seeing the lights of Anchorage from the air.

The Midwinter bangles were felted from one of my favorite all time yarns. I used solid colored sections to create these bangles, but they are each slightly heathered, so there are fuzzy guard hairs of contrasting colors, making them glow just a little. The darkest is a soft charcoal black, accompanied by a deep indigo navy color and a blue that reminds me of the color of the sky at deep twilight.

My bangles are crafted in wool, but the quality of the yarn and the felting process eliminate the itch factor. There is no metal or plastic in these bangles- the only materials other than wool on these are the glass beads and silk bead thread.

They are about 3 inches across on the inside, and will fit over a small to medium hand/wrist loosely and a bit snugger on medium to large hands/wrists. They do give somewhat, so fear not if you have larger hands.

New Leaf is a light little blanket, featuring the natural softness of cotton. The pale green reminds me of matcha green tea, early spring and new beginnings.

la estrellita felted purse with needlefelt work

la estrellita was a real diva to make. i have had these yarns and this wool for a while now, and like a star, she would not be rushed.
shaping the purse was fussy, and took three tries; she stomped her cute foot and let me know she had to be just so.

la estrellita is spangled with a starry design, one i found in an old embroidery book. the blue and turquoise shades dance on the silvery charcoal background. she can be bohemian or prima donna, as long as fun is the bottom line.

there is a felted pouch worked into the bag itself to hold your smaller items; this closes with a little blue button.

the exterior button is a lovely one, made of horn. it's subtle and elegant and was the only button she would have (of course). the strap connects to the body with a unique and interesting handfelted loop construction.

dimensions:
la estrellita has a long, narrow strap that hangs about 28" from the shoulder and can be knotted at your preferred length.
the exterior of the bag is a little over 8" wide, 7" tall and 2" thick. the felt is thick and dense, but will give a little bit, so those dimensions are not rigid.
the inner pouch is about 4.5" tall and 3.5" wide.

slouchy convertible bag

This bright striped purse really likes options. It's a little structural, a little organically shaped. It can be carried by one long strap or two shorter ones - twist them together for a really funky look.

I'm calling it a slouchy bag, it's similar in style to the ever-popular hobo bag, but that's not to say that it lacks refinement.

The Slouchy Convertible bag was crocheted in bright blueberry and cranberry stripes, tempered with a rich chocolate brown. After that, it was felted about a million times for density and toughness (okay a million might be an exaggeration...)and then finished with the same care I give all of my pieces.

As with most stuff, the screen doesn't really do the colors justice. Suffice it to say, anyone who saw me working on the bag commented on the color combination.

I've not measured it exactly, but the bag will definitely accommodate all of the daily necessities - keys, communication devices, pens, 35 lip balm tubes and a small journal, along with a paperback to read if you're forced to wait somewhere.

Basket Weave Baby Afghan in Natural Cotton

When my cousin was expecting, I made her a blanket, as our grandmother had retired from making the family's baby blankets, due to her hands. To substitute for the knowledge and talent of another grandmother's hands, I offer this blanket.

This small blanket is simple and elegant, and features the natural softness and color of cotton. Cotton yarn and the stitch spacing create warmth without too much weight and breathability. Cotton is also a natural alternative to synthetic fabrics made from plastic and petroleum bases, for those who choose to avoid such products.

The basket weave texture is a photogenic one and the cream color with tiny brown flecks is a lovely complement to many color themes and looks very classic. It sidesteps the pastel colors found in a lot of baby items and this translates into a blanket that can be kept for a long time. Treated with care, it will be around to wrap another generation.

Though it would make an excellent baby gift, this blanket mustn't be limited to babies; a nap taker of any age could snuggle with it on a lazy afternoon.

wandering star tam or beret cap

This completely unique hat wreaked havoc on my photo shoot! She morphed from a chic beret, watching the sidewalk and waiting for someone to sweep her heart away to a frisky snow bunny, ready for flurries of adventure.

I designed this pattern myself, and haven't yet repeated it. I'm not certain that I ever will, simply to have all the creative magic infused into this one piece.

The colors are awesome; oranges and plums and blues and deep azalea pink. Wandering Star is amazingly textural as well, with ribs creating a reverse raised star effect (hence, the name). She's effectively two hats in one, and both are quite nice!

mango salsa cloche bucket hat

Strikingly similar, yet completely opposite to my raspberry jam hat, we have a sibling- mango salsa.

Rich warm mango gold (which is truly more yellow than orange) banded with a nice stripe of berry makes a lovely hat to add color to the most blah of days.

My cloches are one size fits most, and fit most heads quite well. The felted piece is durable, yet retains some give for fit.

emerald city hand felted hand beaded bangle bracelets

The Emerald City bangle bracelets are thicker, sturdy bangles that I crocheted, handfelted and painstakingly beaded, little seed bead by little seed bead.

These bangles are made in 100% wool yarn, in a bright grassy crayon green. It's a bold, punchy green that reminds me of the greens at mini golf courses or a child's drawing of a yard. However, the seed beads in gold and two shades of green dress this set of bangles up quite a bit.

The lighter green sparkles, with a bit of iridescence, contrasting nicely with the matte/satin finish of the deep blue green beads. These green beads are accented with gold-lined clear seed beads with just a suggestion of iridescence. My use of these rich colors in combination is an extension of my influence by bright Bollywood colors. They're also inspired by my mom's favorite movie- The Wizard of Oz. The little gold beads remind me of paving stones on the yellow brick road, and the green, well, the Emerald City, of course!

The bracelets are 2.5" across, and fit over my small-to-medium sized adult hand and fit comfortably around my wrist. As there's no wood or metal structure inside these bracelets, they do have some give.

custom felted cloche

I spent much of my teenage life daydreaming about a hat. Not just any hat, but the smart, bell-shaped cloche. I've never found quite the right one in shops, although I have seen some beautiful (and expensive) ones. I therefore set out to make my own. I am now happy to make one for you!

The yarn for my cloches is produced by a family owned company, based in Nebraska. Their yarn is available in an amazing rainbow of colors! Forest green, lipstick red, mango orange, whipped cream and cafe au lait are just a few ideas for your hat.

My cloches are chic, in addition to being sturdy and practical hats. Light rainfall beads up on the wool/mohair surface and the kicky little brim protects the eyes, especially when worn low as many flappers wore their cloches in the 1920s.

I like to wear my cloches simply but they can be ornamented with a brooch, ribbon and other vintage findings for a one-of-a-kind chapeau.

The diameter at the crown is about eight inches, which fits a 24 inch head comfortably. If you have a petite noggin' or lots of hair, we may need to make a slightly different size for you; just convo me!

primavera spring scarflette neckpiece 5

primavera is number five in a series of spring scarves inspired by a discussion on etsy's very own forums. everything about this piece screams spring- from the soft and light texture of the yarn to the vibrant colors throughout.

this cozy neck piece is just right when you're not quite ready to give up on soft and fuzzy cooler weather accessories, but don't need a full on scarf. i also find that these shorter scarves avoid the front bumps that scarf tails inevitably give under a coat.

the buttons are the cutest buttons ever, with a very retro look. they make the piece adjustable and wearable in many ways, as there are no fixed button holes- simply find the way you'd like to wear it and button into the fabric. my lovely but goofy model has it wrapped around and buttoned off center, one of the many ways to wear this.

colors include lime green, flamingo pink, sunny yellow/orange, bright turquoise, and a cinnamon reddish brown, along with bright purple- a rush of vibrant spring colors. the slightly fluffly boucle type yarn is made of wool, kid mohair and silk around a nylon center strand, for strength and shape.

every piece in this series (like most of my pieces) is one of a kind, and will not and can not be reproduced. their uniqueness makes them a great gift to give or keep.

dimensions: 17.5 inches wide/long, 5.5 inches tall

Due to the fiber content, I suggest a quick, cool handwash to clean and please air dry.

carbonite handfelted beadwoven bangles, special secret discount

carbonite is a dusky alternative to loud jewelry, in more ways than one. like all of my felted bangles, these are library-approved and whisper rather than jingle when they slide on the wrist.

of course, carbonite is also the material that ensnared science fiction's hottest smuggler*, so it's pretty strong, too.

i crocheted and handfelted silvery graphite gray mohair/wool yarn for a sturdy bangle bracelet base for peyote stitch bead weaving. the silver lined gray beads and shiny hematite colored beads are arranged in a series of diamond motifs.

this is a one-of-a-kind set, and i will make no more of the carbonite bracelets.

bracelets measure slightly over 2.5 inches on the inside, and they fit my 6.75" circumference wrist comfortably, with some room to spare. as my bangles have no glass, plastic or metal inner structure, they have some give and will fit a larger wrist/hand without trouble.
