dreaming cat pin

$30.00
This pin was created using the ancient Ukrainian pysanky technique of writing on an egg shell (in this case, goose egg)with hot beeswax while alternately dipping the egg in various baths of dye. The wax is removed, the piece cut out and epoxy added to the back to give it strength.

While I used a traditional art form, the design is contemporary. The pin is about 2" wide, is signed and dated and will come in a silver-foiled gift box.

The design is written on with hot beeswax while alternately bathing the egg in various colors of dye. The wax is removed, the piece cut out, epoxy added to the back to give it strength. Several coats of polyurethane are added to give it a nice shine. The pin is a little less than 2" wide. It is signed and dated and will come in a silver-foiled gift box.

Poppies are very common in Ukrainian design. Flowers represent the female principle; love, elegance, charity, beauty, and wisdom. In the eternity band that surrounds the pin there are baskets (motherhood and contained knowledge) and periwinkle (eternal love).

bee earrings

$20.00
These bright little earrings were made using the traditional Ukrainian pysanky technique. The design was written on a goose egg with hot beeswax while alternately dipping the egg into various dye baths. The wax is melted off, the piece cut out, and epoxy added to the back. Several coats of polyurethane are added to give it a nice shine. The earrings are five-eighths of an inch tall and have 14kt gold-filled earwire.

The bee is very common in Ukrainian design. Years ago I called Luba at the Ukrainian Gift Shop and asked her what she thought it symbolized and we both thought "fertility". Recently, I saw it credited with "productivity" or being "industrious".

All jewelry is signed and dated and comes in a silver-foiled gift box.

The designs were written on a goose egg with hot beeswax while alternately dipping the egg into various colors of dye. The wax was melted off, the piece cut out, and epoxy was added to the back to give it strength. Several coats of polyurethane were added to give them shine.

Sunflowers represent a love of God and also suggest motherhood.
etched emu egg

$75.00
This is an emu egg that has been etched with vinegar. The color is the natural color of the shell. The outer shell is very dark and, as you etch in, the color gets lighter and lighter. I wrote with hot beeswax on the shell and bathed it in plain white vinegar, alternating back and forth until the design was complete. Then I sprayed it with a very light coat of sealer.

The egg bears 6 star roses. Though they look like stars, they are really geometric representations of roses. Flowers represent the female principle; love, charity, elegance, beauty and wisdom.

Tripods swirl representing the magical number 3. Dots are mixed in, representing the stars in the heavens or Mary's tears.

The egg is 5.5" tall and is signed and dated. It will NOT come with a stand.

Poppies on a goose egg

$70.00
This elegant goose egg was created using the traditional Ukrainian pysanky method. The design is written on an egg with hot beeswax while alternately dipping the egg in various colors of dye. The wax is melted off and several coats of polyurethane are added to give it a nice shine.

Poppies are very common in Ukrainian design. Flowers represent the female principle; love, elegance, charity, wisdom and beauty. The eternity bands that encircle the egg contain eight-pointed stars (life, purity and the Divine Eye or Will of God) and star roses which are geometric representations of a rose. Running along side the bands on either side of the egg are ladders. Ladders represent seeking and rising above the petty problems of life.

The egg is about 4"tall. I'm afraid at the moment I am all out of goose egg stands.

eight pointed star goose egg

$60.00
This goose egg was made in the traditional Ukrainian pysanky style. Designs were written on with hot beeswax while the egg was alternately dipped in various dye baths. The wax was removed and several coats of polyurethane were added.

This is a very traditional design. The eight-pointed star represents life itself, purity and the Divine Eye or Will of God. The three-leaved images in each corner are periwinkle which represent eternal love (since periwinkle was the sacred plant of Venus). Lines encircling the egg represent eternity and immortality. The wave adds harmony in motion. There are netted triangles (baskets) which represent motherhood and contained knowledge. On the top and bottom there are ram's horns which signify manhood and victory.

Look at the pic of the top of the egg closely. There is a tiny black spot and the olive background is a little textured.

Egg is 4" tall and a little less than 10" in circumference. It is signed and dated at the bottom. Stand is NOT included.
