In winter, it's hard to say that San Francisco is a beautiful city, because it rains a lot. The city looks so dark: dark building, wet streets and wet trees without any leaves… It's so depressing when I have to go into the city in winter. Last month on the way to the boutique to restock, I saw a lady carring a red umbrella. She brightened up the street a little bit. So I imagined what it would be like if everybody changed their black umbrellas for red umbrellas. It would be so much fun walking in the rain!
I sewed 9 umbrellas with magenta felt on the front of the dress to show the scene that I imagined. I sewed a little one in the back which represent your umbrella (that you can't see)!

STORY: This image has come to my mind many times while I was still working in an advertising agency. Something in the ad industry made me happy, for example, working and playing at the same time, funny and interesting co-workers, awards…etc. On the other hand other things pushed me to the edge, like sneaky bosses, incompetent sales people and clients who didn’t know about art but they thought they did. I drew this image because I felt that I went into the office and tried to pour out all my interesting ideas into my work. But after a presentation, they were just like water, poured on the floor; it made a beautiful splash and then vanished.
I felt that I was wasting my time and creativity in advertising. So I quit. Now I put my creativity into T-shirts, and lots of my friends and customers like and appreciate them. Although I can’t earn as much money on T-shirts as before, still I am much happier now.

THE WAY I MADE IT: Silkscreen printing (in white ink) on American Apparel 100% cotton White Tshirt. Machine sewn magenta and pink cotton threads in the shape of splash.

I use American Apparel women's fine jersey girly T-Shirt, they are super soft and comfortable shirts. Here is the size chart

STORY: This is my favorite T-shirt because it has a beautiful story behind it….
When I lived in Barcelona, I had a roommate named Luis, who was from Valladolid (Central Spain). He left his hometown; the major reason was to get over his mother’s death. After several years, he took a long vacation to clean up his mother’s old house for rental. After the vacation, Luis came back to Barcelona with a lot of antiques. He gave me a big sewing basket with lots of sewing tools, dozens of different colors of threads and lots of antique lace. I had just started to sell my T-shirts at some boutiques in Barcelona and he thought I might need to use them on my future designs.
I never thought about using lace on T-shirt before, but to show appreciation for his kindness and to not waste that beautiful antique lace, I decided to give it a try. I kept this motivation in mind. After a couple of weeks, when I was wandering in a bookstore, I saw a children’s book. It was about a spider who moved into a big clean house, and its first thought was: what a boring place, it needs a lot of knitting! So the spider knitted a lot of decorations in that house… but when it had almost finished its fabulous decoration in a corner, the house’s owner kicked it out…
I enjoyed that cute book very much and I also got this idea for a spider knitting lace. Before the spider had finished its work, it fell down!

THE WAY I MADE IT: Silkscreen printing on 100 % Orgain cotton Dusty Purple T-shirt. Sewn lace around the collar. Stitched a black button as the body of spider and hand painted it's eyes.

THE WAY TO WASH IT:
Hand-wash it, or turn it inside-out and put it in a laundry bag to machine-wash it.

Red short sleeved T-shirt with Hand Shadow Puppet of Dog-M/L

STORY: When I was studying in Barcelona, my roommate was doing an interactive project on the internet. Her theme was theater using shadow puppets. She prepared a storyboard and instructions for the unpaid hand models: her boyfriend, her project's partner and me. The shooting night was a challenge but fun. Everybody underestimated this old childhood game. Seriously, it’s not easy! I finally made my shadow puppet of a rabbit in a more or less correct shape and then the director said:” Ok, now the rabbit has to jump from right to left”. I felt a big drop of sweat coming down my forehead but I didn't wipe it off right away. I tried to keep the rabbit shape and make it jump. The director, my roommate, was staring at her camera and muttering:” Well…I'd better change my story line: when the rabbit jumped out of the bush it gradually became an alien….”
Although I almost ruined my roommate's project, her boyfriend did a good job on the shadow puppet of the dog. I was so impressed by his hands! I was so inspired by his shadow puppet of the dog that I made this cool T-shirt. This design is not only in memory of my Spanish roommates, but also fondly remember this old childhood game.

THE WAY I MADE IT: Silkscreen printing (in brown ink) on 100% cotton Tshirt. Machine sewn silver thread in the shape of hands.

Grey Dress with dusty pink applique - Swan-S

When I was making this dress I felt like I was sculpting a swan on this dress. It's a lot of work to make this dress! Adjusting the line of the swan's neck, drawing and cutting different feathers, positioning the feathers, sewing them together…etc. I fulfilled my expectation when this dress was done because the white fabric swan looks so much better than my drawing ;)
This dress is ribbed knit stretch off shoulder waist pleated with 3/4 bubble sleeves. Those lovely sleeves make me feel that I was a princess in fairy-tale;) My favorite combination of color is grey with dusty pink. It is modern, classic, elegant and chic!

Purple Cotton Dress with Sweet Polar Bears-L

I read some sad news about polar bears recently. Because of global warming, they can't get enough food, so they have started to eat each other. Their average weight by reduce 25 kilos, so the females have a hard time getting pregnant. It's so hard to imagine that we are losing this beautiful animal from our world… I made this design in order to draw more attention to the condition of the polar bear and to encourage people to think and talk about the polar bear.
I first screen-printed this big, white polar bear on the front of a purple cotton dress and then machine-sewed the outline (so it looks like it was drawn in an unbroken line) I hand-stitched a button as it's nose and two beads as it's eyes. I printed a baby polar bear on the back of dress.

The long side panels provoke my desire to be a bird: Freely flying in the sky, observing what’s happening on the ground , migrating with the seasons and traveling around different countries.
Recently I wear this wrap a lot. I found it can be formal and elegant with skirts, casual with jeans and sexy with a tiny tube top! My lovely customer-Luffdog has another good way to wear it. Most of time I don't care for rainy days, I wish I was a bird with waterproof feathers, so I wouldn't have to care about the bad weather, I could just enjoy the rain like a hot shower!
Hand printed the birdy and machine sewn the rain.
The fabric of the skirt is made by cotton and linen blending, so dry clean is recomended. If hand wash in cold water, the length will shrink 0.5".

Our cat spends most of her awake time looking out of the window, even in the dead of night when nothing is happening/moving. One night I got so curious about what exactly she was looking at. I couldn't see anything except the moon, so I made up an explanation: She is looking at the moon and thinking about her family ;)
I screen printed with the cat(Blue) and the moon(White). The whiskers are machine sewn with white thread.

This dress is ribbed knit which you can stretch off the shoulder. The waist is pleated with 3/4 bubble sleeves. The fabric is very strechy and warm. Those lovely sleeves make me feel that I was a princess in a fairy-tale ;) The collar can be totally off both shoulders or just one shoulder. Or it can totally cover your shoulders.

This super cute, cool and sexy dress has 2 layers of lace ruffles on the bottom left, extra fabric flowing from the top right to the bottom left and the most interesting part is the two long lace strips on the right side, front & back. At a minimum you can use the 2 lace strips to make 3 good styles. First, you can tie them on your right shoulder like a big bow. Second, you can wrap the lace around your neck and tie a smaller bow. Third, the dress can be a knee length skirt and you can tie the lace to a cute bow on the top of your right hip. Probably you will come out another idea to play with this cute dress! Enjoy!

Last month my best friend from Hong Kong had a business trip to San Francisco. So I had to offer my hospitality;) I brought her to a half residential and half shopping neighborhood in downtown instead of showing her the typical touristic spots. The neighborhood is called Hayes Valley. There are many charming cafés and restaurants and lots of cute shops with character! When we were wandering in a gift shop a mural in the back of that shop attracted our attention. It was very simple painting, just a bird sitting in the middle of a tree. We loved the color and simplicity. I just felt if I were to paint this mural I would add some drama to it. Voila! So the design on this skirt is inspired by that mural.
We have a big tree in front of our apartment. The tree's leaves fall every year, but this year maybe the weather confused it. Spring is coming, but there are still lots of dry and brown leaves on the tree. I'm looking forward to seeing the new green leaves blooming, so I'm thinking maybe the bird can help a little bit. I'm wondering if there is any chance that a dancing bird will jump on the tree and makes the leaves fall! ^_^

STORY: Two years ago when I was waiting in the lobby of a studio with a bunch of girls for the casting of a TV commercial, there was an installment of contemporary art in the lobby. It was a puppet of a girl standing on a pile of matchboxes. I was wondering "What does it mean? Why is she standing there? Is it scary or dangerous being so high? Did she try very hard to get there?"......
I believe every woman has her own dreams from when she was a little girl. I always admire the courage which happens along the way to achieving the dreams and I also find it beautiful. That's why I created this image: a little girl climbs on the boxes and tries to reach for a star, wishing the dream will come true.
I could have drawn stars and printed it on this Tshirt, but I didn't. It wouldn't have been as interesting and elegant. Therefore, I stitched 30-40 beads on it. Trust me, it took me a while. I really hope you enjoy this idea and I hope it will be your companion as you pursue your dream.
My lovely customer-Kelly, she shared this poem with me when she bought this design for her niece. This poem captures the essence of this design. Beautiful!

It can be very frustrating when you are under the sky full of stars and try to figure out the constellations. Honestly speaking, I never succeed in doing it. So I made this design to help me out and hope it can help you too!
The Great Bear is a constellation visible throughout the year in most of the northern hemisphere. It is dominated by the widely recognized asterism known as the Big Dipper or Plough, which is a useful pointer toward north, and which has mythological significance in numerous world cultures.
I hand screen printed the bigger stars with silver ink, sewed the bear's shape with silver threads and hand stitched small silver beads as the smaller stars.

It's so hard to imagine that we are losing this beautiful animal from our world… I made this design in order to draw more attention to the condition of the polar bear and to encourage people to think and talk about the polar bear.
I first screen-printed this baby polar bear on the back of a hoody and then machine-sewed the outline (so it looks like it was drawn in an unbroken line) I sewed felt as it's nose and two beads as it's eyes.

Last month my best friend from Hong Kong had a business trip to San Francisco. So I had to offer my hospitality;) I brought her to a half residential and half shopping neighborhood in downtown instead of showing her the typical touristic spots. The neighborhood is called Hayes Valley. There are many charming cafés and restaurants and lots of cute shops with character! When we were wandering in a gift shop a mural in the back of that shop attracted our attention. It was very simple painting, just a bird sitting in the middle of a tree. We loved the color and simplicity. I just felt if I were to paint this mural I would add some drama to it. Voila! So the design on this skirt is inspired by that mural.
We have a big tree in front of our apartment. The tree's leaves fall every year, but this year maybe the weather confused it. Spring is coming, but there are still lots of dry and brown leaves on the tree. I'm looking forward to seeing the new green leaves blooming, so I'm thinking maybe the bird can help a little bit. I'm wondering if there is any chance that a dancing bird will jump on the tree and makes the leaves fall! ^_^

STORY: Two years ago when I was waiting in the lobby of a studio with a bunch of girls for the casting of a TV commercial, there was an installment of contemporary art in the lobby. It was a puppet of a girl standing on a pile of matchboxes. I was wondering "What does it mean? Why is she standing there? Is it scary or dangerous being so high? Did she try very hard to get there?"......
I believe every woman has her own dreams from when she was a little girl. I always admire the courage which happens along the way to achieving the dreams and I also find it beautiful. That's why I created this image: a little girl climbs on the boxes and tries to reach for a star, wishing the dream will come true.
I could have drawn stars and printed it on this Tshirt, but I didn't. It wouldn't have been as interesting and elegant. Therefore, I stitched 30-40 beads on it. Trust me, it took me a while. I really hope you enjoy this idea and I hope it will be your companion as you pursue your dream.

Our cat spends most of her awake time looking out of the window, even in the dead of night when nothing is happening/moving. One night I got so curious about what exactly she was looking at. I couldn't see anything except the moon, so I made up an explanation: She is looking at the moon and thinking about her family ;)
This is a casual 3/4 sleeve tunic, made of 95% cotton and 5% spandex, screen printed with two cats and I sewed a piece of felt as the moon. The whiskers are machine sewn.

My scissors have worked so hard recently. One of the reasons is that there have been many orders of the swan dress(Thanks to the support of my lovely customers!) Another reason is that Mingle's(a boutique in SF) owner asked me to make more designs for the summer. Ok~ Cut! Cut! Cut! Here you go!
I printed an fuchsia scissors on the top layer that means that it just cuts all layers. The dress has 13 layers, made by 4 different kinds of fabric. It's very cute and dreamy dress. My little scissors make it even cuter! So let's wear this modern and chic dress and have fun in the summer!

STORY: This is my favorite T-shirt because it has a beautiful story behind it….
When I lived in Barcelona, I had a roommate named Luis, who was from Valladolid (Central Spain). He left his hometown; the major reason was to get over his mother’s death. After several years, he took a long vacation to clean up his mother’s old house for rental. After the vacation, Luis came back to Barcelona with a lot of antiques. He gave me a big sewing basket with lots of sewing tools, dozens of different colors of threads and lots of antique lace. I had just started to sell my T-shirts at some boutiques in Barcelona and he thought I might need to use them on my future designs.
I never thought about using lace on T-shirt before, but to show appreciation for his kindness and to not waste that beautiful antique lace, I decided to give it a try. I kept this motivation in mind. After a couple of weeks, when I was wandering in a bookstore, I saw a children’s book. It was about a spider who moved into a big clean house, and its first thought was: what a boring place, it needs a lot of knitting! So the spider knitted a lot of decorations in that house… but when it had almost finished its fabulous decoration in a corner, the house’s owner kicked it out…
I enjoyed that cute book very much and I also got this idea for a spider knitting lace. Before the spider had finished its work, it fell down!

THE WAY I MADE IT: Silkscreen printing on 100 % cotton grass T-shirt. Sewn lace around the collar. Stitched a black button as the body of spider and hand painted it's eyes.

THE WAY TO WASH IT:
Hand-wash it, or turn it inside-out and put it in a laundry bag to machine-wash it.

Blue dress with my drawing-paper boat and the creek-S

There is a small creek just behind the house that I grew in. It was our favorite playground: catching the bugs that floated on the water, throwing stones and fishing for the frogs…etc. The most fun was making paper boats and putting then in the water to let them sail down to the big river. Not every paper boat got to the destination (the river) because sometime we didn't make it well, so water got into the boat and it just turned over and sadly floated into the river, or it got stuck by a stone or weeds on the side of the creek and we had to figure out how to rescue it. I had 2 very naughty brothers when we were kids; they always had tons of ideas to keep them from being bored everyday. So when they were able to make a strong paper boat, they decided to put some passengers on the boat: ants, spiders, cockroachs…etc. I remember the heaviest passenger was a big fat earth worm. When I saw them I was very thrilled about the paper boat carrying the worm, I couldn't help thinking that if I was not too heavy, they probably would put me on the paper boat and send me to the river!
This dress has flattering sleeves and lovely details on the back. I hand printed the paper boat with white ink and sewed the creek with white threads. When I was sewing the creek, lots of childhood memory came into my mind!

STORY: I’m not a smoker but I was so impressed with a stranger who was sitting in the corner of the coffee shop where I used to hang out. She was alone and holding a burning cigarette, thinking. She created her own peaceful space in that noisy coffee shop. I drew this sketch of her. I didn’t want to show how pretty she was. All I wanted was to record the calm, quiet corner that she was enjoying.
I certainly hope those people who buy this design can find their own spaces and enjoy them.

THE WAY I MADE IT: Silkscreen printing (in white ink) on American Apparel 100% cotton Black Tshirt. Machine sewn white cotton thread in the shape of smoke, with a red bead stitched on the tip of cigarette.

I saw a modern art display that was a group of sheep, each one had a real telephone as it's head and their wool was made of telephone wires. They looked so cute and made me laugh for a long long time. So I drew it!
I looked at my drawing notebook and I thought it might be a cute T-shirt design. I hand printed a white color for the wool and a black telephone as the head with a machine sewn black line as the wire of telephone and also the shape of sheep's body. I hand stitched 8 white buttons as the dial. What a fun T-shirt!

STORY: I always like to check out what people are wearing and critique their outfits. One very windy day, when I was on the way to a market, I saw a striking woman from behind: a blond woman in a close-fitting blue coat. The strong wind blowing against me didn’t stop my curiosity to see her face. I sped up and tried to see what she looked like. I was just about to catch her when I heard she chatting with her friend in a male voice. So I presumed she/he was a transvestite, and I decided not to look at her, because I didn’t want her to feel that I was giving her an unusual glance.
I was sorry for her because she had to live with lots of judgments by people. So I drew her, imagining the judgments were blowing against her like the wind. Her hair turned into tears…

THE WAY I MADE IT: Silkscreen printing (in Yellow ink) on American Apparel 100% cotton Grey Tshirt. Machine Blue, Pink and Black cotton threads in the shape of body and bag. Stitched a blue button on the coat.
