Bird-E Towels™ are here! OK, they've been here for a while under the generic term 'unpaper towel' but it became clear that I needed a name that I could trademark and thus Bird-E Towels™ were born. Same great product made by my 2 hands in my home studio. We're excited about the new name and we hope you like it too! (If you don't, just nod and smile. It did feel like we were naming a baby and it's a tough job!) ;)

My best selling item here and at my local arts' market! These cloths are simply fabulous, a wonderful way to cut the paper towel habit. This listing is for 13 Bird-E Towels™. That's one free over my normal price!

As the name suggests, these are paper towel replacement. Whatever you might use a paper towel for, you can use these cloths. Dry your hands, wipe up spills, clean the dining room table, dinner napkins, etc, etc. Even better then paper towels, you can actually clean glass and mirrors without leaving linty bits like paper towels and other cloths can do.

What's the problem with paper towels?? The main problem is that the paper towels that most people use are made from virgin tree pulp. That means that trees are cut down and harvested for something that you are going to use ONE time. And then it gets thrown away...adding to the landfill problem. Oh and to make it even worse for the environment, they bleach the pulp releasing toxic chemicals into our environment. (For something that is used one time?!?)

I use unbleached cotton to avoid that aspect of manufacturing. Whenever you get a chance, choose unbleached for a healthier earth.

So, cloth is better in so many ways. You can expect years of use from these cloths. And considering that you can toss these small cloths in with laundry that you already have to do...it doesn't really have much environmental impact once you get them home.

Sometimes, though, it's really hard to break the paper habit. That's exactly why I created these. I tried all the recommended suggestions and they just didn't work for us. (i.e. my hubby kept coming home with rolls of paper towels!) It wasn't until I had a lightbulb moment in my sewing studio with this amazing light weight but absorbent 100% cotton fabric that I found something worked....and it worked really well...my prototype Bird-E Towels™. We were finally free of that paper towel addiction!

My Bird-E Towels™ towels can help bridge that gap because they feel and act more like a paper towel (only better!) vs any of the alternatives out there.

Size: I cut them a precise 10" square but they lose a teeny bit of width in the serging process. I am meticulous about making sure that each one conforms to my high standards before I mail them to you.

Printed care instructions are included with your order.

They are easy to incorporate into your current washing routine. I recommend no fabric softener to retain the highest degree of absorptivity. Don't fret if you forget, you won't ruin them, they just won't be quite as absorbent. I recommend washing these with a load of similar colors mainly to prevent other items from bleeding color. I throw ours in with sheets or towels. I've even hand-washed ours in the kitchen sink and hung them to dry...if I didn't have a load to do. They dry FAST. Yes, you can dry them in a clothes dryer. And yes, you can use bleach them if that's your preference. Personally, I like soaking them with Borax or Oxyclean if stains are an issue.

Tie dyed dresses!

These were quite popular at my local arts market. I will often get customers who come back in subsequent weeks and tell me how loved these dresses are...by the little recipients and by everyone else around. I can give personal testimony in that my little girls love these dresses, too! They are VERY comfortable for the little ones. They look adorable over leggings, tights or even jeans.

I started with adorable 100% rib knit cotton dresses and I dyed them in a rainbow of colors with permanent dye. The dresses are hemmed with ruffly lettuce edging and they will arrive with a tag which includes care instructions.

This listing is for ONE dress, the multi-colored rainbow dress in the first photo. Size 12 months. This dress has a small hole in the back by the shoulder area. How sad! My guess is that it was caused by another hanger. I'm offering this dress at a 50% discount because of the hole. This is a knit fabric which does not ravel so the hole should not get any bigger under normal washing and wearing conditions. If you want me to put a couple stitches in it, I'd be glad to. Just mention it in the notes when you purchase it.

The larger sizes run true to size, in my opinion. I assume that the smaller ones do but please check the measurements to be 100% sure. To give reference, my 39" tall 3 year old wears the size 4. My almost 7 year old can wear size 6 or size 8 with the sleeves slightly pushed up.

About the dye:
I use low impact fiber reactive dye which produces permanent color that will not run or fade. I triple wash everything after the dyeing process. I also dry everything in the dryer to encourage shrinking before you get it home.

Care Instructions:
Wash in cold with similar colors for the first cycle. (This is just to be extra cautious that all remaining dye particles have been removed.) After that, you can wash as you choose. No bleach.

Multi-color (rainbow) dresses:
Please note that you might notice a tad bit of shrinkage with the multi colored dresses. The finished dress should still be true to size. My confession is that I had to pull those out of the dryer early and hung them to dry so that I could make it to the arts' market that day! With the completed dresses, I can tell that the rainbow ones are approx 1/2" - 1" longer then the solid colored ones. No big deal but thought I would mention it.

Tie dyed dresses!

These were quite popular at my local arts market. I will often get customers who come back in subsequent weeks and tell me how loved these dresses are...by the little recipients and by everyone else around. I can give personal testimony in that my little girls love these dresses, too! They are VERY comfortable for the little ones. They look adorable over leggings, tights or even jeans.

I started with adorable 100% rib knit cotton dresses and I dyed them in a rainbow of colors with permanent dye. The dresses are hemmed with ruffly lettuce edging and they will arrive with a tag which includes care instructions.

This listing is for the purple dress in the 1st, 2nd & 3rd photos. Size 6 years. The larger sizes run true to size, in my opinion. I assume that the smaller ones do but please check the measurements to be 100% sure. To give reference, my 39" tall 3 year old wears the size 4. My almost 7 year old can wear size 6 or size 8 with the sleeves slightly pushed up.

Approximate Measurements:
Shoulder to hem length: 26"
Sleeve length: 17.5"
Bodice width (it's very stretchy rib knit): 11"

**Multi-color (rainbow) dresses**
Please note that you might notice a tad bit of shrinkage with the multi colored dresses. The finished dress should still be true to size. My confession is that I had to pull those out of the dryer early and hung them to dry so that I could make it to the arts' market that day! With the completed dresses, I can tell that the rainbow ones are longer then the solid colored ones.

About the dye:
I use low impact fiber reactive dye which produces permanent color that will not run or fade. I triple wash everything after the dyeing process. I also dry everything in the dryer to encourage shrinking before you get it home.

Care Instructions:

I start with the same wonderfully absorbent unbleached 100% cotton and I hand dyed it in a small batch with professional quality low-impact fiber reactive dye. I triple washed it to remove excess dye. The color is permanent and will not fade. I then press it, cut out the towels and serge the edges to ensure it won't fray. I used a purple variegated thread on this set.

The colors in this set run from a byzantium purple to lighter shades of purple to light blue with turquoise. It's really stunning. Each Bird-E Towel is unique. As usual with the hand dyeing process, some areas are darker or lighter. It's not a uniform color representation throughout.

Care instructions: No fabric softener. No chlorine bleach. Wash and dry as usual. Soak overnight in oxyclean or borax if stained.

This listing is for 2 kitchen/hand towels made from a highly absorbent 100% unbleached cotton fabric, the same wonderful fabric I use for my Bird-E Towels! I cut them a precise 18" x 30" but they lose a bit of width in the serging process. Serged to prevent fraying & the corners are slightly rounded.

They are quite big set so thin & absorbent! They will come neatly folded, wrapped with a bit of blue grosgain ribbon and with care instructions and a gift tag ready for you to write who the gift is from & to.

These towels make wonderful dish drying cloths, nice and big. They also are wonderful for cleaning glass or windows. And nice for drying hands, too.

Washing Instructions:
For the best, most absorbent results, don't use fabric softener. You won't ruin them if you do but they won't be quite as absorbent. I recommend washing these with a load of similar colors mainly to prevent other items from bleeding color. I throw ours in with sheets or towels. I've even hand-washed ours in the kitchen sink and hung them to dry...if I didn't have a load to do. They dry FAST.

This listing is for a set of 5 single layer flannel cloths that measure just under 8.5" square. They come tied with a bit of grosgrain ribbon and with a little gift tag attached. The reverse side has a "To: & From:" spot (as pictured in the 2nd photo but the item shown in that photo is not what if offered in this listing.) You'll get the exact item shown in picture #1.

Would make a nice stocking stuffer!

These cloths are the perfect size to use as a lunch napkin for adults or kids. I've included 5 in my sets so that you can have a different one each day of the week.

Keep an extra one on your purse as an emergency germy doorknob cover. Or you can use these soft cloths as tissues. These cloths are just so much nicer then paper tissues.

The great thing about flannel is that is just gets better over time. These cloths get more absorbent and softer as you wash and reuse. This flannel was pre-washed and does look a bit pilly as can be expected with flannel fabric.

Care Instructions
No bleach and no fabric softener to ensure maximum absorption. I would suggest washing this with like colors.

What we have here is an original one of a kind bag. It will NEVER be repeated. Ever. Even if you asked me to, I would say it's not possible. I started with one fancy linen napkin that we inherited from my mother-in-law. (Do I need to say that it was in excellent condition but had been used?)

I hand dyed it using a rainbow of colors. And boy was I shocked and delighted at the results. Seriously, it's the most amazing purply orangish with maybe a hint of blue. It reminds me of a spectacular sunset. The linen has a floral pattern.

I fused the napkin to a medium weight interfacing to give it a bit more stability. I then went through my fabrics until I found the right one to use as the lining...a lovely medium tan linen. Serged edges that are encased in a french seam down the side. The handle has the tan linen on the bottom and more of the hand dyed linen on top.

I added 3 fun bug buttons. No one will have a bag like this. It's fun. It's funky. It's eco-friendly by upcycling that vintage napkin.

The bag is slightly slouchy and won't really stand up on it's own when empty.

It's approx 12" tall including the handle. The bucket part is approx 7" tall. When squashed flat, the width of the bag is around 9 inches...making it 18 inches around the perimeter. It's not a huge tote bag. Just a cute medium sized bucket. I would use it as a knitting project bag, letting it hang from my wrist as I knit.

Every once in a while, when I am working in my sewing studio, I end up with some scraps that I can't part with. I start cutting and sewing before I really know what the finished item will be. I thought this one was going to be a fancy centerpiece for a dining room table but it ended up turning into a bucket bag. It's 100% original and I will never repeat it.

There are 3 types of batik cotton fabric used with shades of purple, lavender, greens and a faint hint of orange. The bag is fully lined with 2 layers of interfacing to make it stand up on it's own.

It's approx 12" tall including the handle. The bucket part is approx 7.5" tall. When squashed flat, the width of the bag is around 11.5 inches...making it 23 inches around the perimeter. I'd call is a medium sized bucket (that held 6 skeins of yarn for the photos, yarn not included.) I would use it as a knitting project bag, letting it hang from my wrist as I knit.

Linen is the strongest of the plant fibers and it doesn't produce lint like cotton. The fibers are long and strong. It's a luxury fabric.

This listing is for 1 medium sized (approx 10 x 12") bag which is big enough for small baskets of veggies with room to spare.

It will be made upon order and I am more then willing to make them to your exact size specifications. (Additional charge may occur for significantly larger bags.) Sometimes a scrap of fabric is too good to set aside or toss and that's what happened here. I made a batch of my popular Bird-E Towels with hand-dyed 100% unbleached cotton and had a bit of fabric left and voila...drawstring bags! The cord is also 100% cotton.

I set out to make the perfect little eco gift bag for gifting a bottle of wine. Only I didn't actually measure a bottle of wine, I just started cutting and sewing...and that's kind of how I operate when I'm in my sewing studio in creative mode. So the funny thing is that the bag ended up way longer then a standard bottle of wine. Do they have super long bottles of wine?? If so, THAT'S what this bag was designed for.

Seriously though, the slouchy part is starting to grow on me. I think I might like it! If you like the look of this one but would prefer a different size or shape, I would be glad to make a custom version just for you.

The linen that I used is very thin and is slightly see through. It's sewn flat. The inside edges are serged. I've sewn grosgrain ribbon to the front side of the bag and the edges are incased in the seams for a neat finish. The drawstring is sewn down on one side so that you will never accidentally unstring the bag.
