I recently rediscovered my first-ever published piece, printed in a children's newspaper published by the church my family attended at the time. It was a story about my father, who passed away in 1993. I realized that since then, I've never really written anything about him and how his life and death affected me. Mitten #3 is a positive, happy tribute to my dad.

Holy cow, I found a few issues of the first edition of Mitten! I wrote it in 2006 after a long-ish hiatus from zines and chapbooks. It features oh-so-painful entries and boy-crazy poetry from the journals I kept as a kid, complete with snarky modern-day commentary, a book review of Ariel Levy's Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture, and a couple of rants.

The June 2009 issue of Mitten includes my thoughts on adulthood (which, at age 26, I must admit I am now), why I love books, instructions on making your own coptic stitch book with some ordinary computer paper and a couple of postcards, quitting smoking due to a cancer scare in the spring, a recipe for vegetarian chili, and a short story.

Quarter-sized, 37 pages, some coarse language contained therein.

This is the second issue of my perzine Mitten, published during the winter of 2008. It's rich in written goodness, featuring two short stories ("Txt Msg" and "Tell Me What I Want"), two short non-fiction pieces ("Sarah Said" and "Oreo Cookie Twist-Off") and a rant ("Earth Hour Is Bull***").

Quarter-sized, 38 pages. If it were a movie the MPAA would rate it R on the basis of a couple of swear words. Just so you know.
