Ice - embroidered wall hanging

This piece was a real test of patience, and Em said I was crazy to start it at all, but the final result was well worth the effort. "Ice" is an abstract piece made up entirely of French knots. It is framed in a six-inch, wooden hoop, and the back has been left open in order to show the other side of this "crazy" undertaking.

As with all of my embroidery, "Ice" is stitched completely by hand. Frankly, I'm not sure they have ever made a machine that can tie a decent French knot, much less a few thousand of them.

Still, after all was said and done, and the French knot callous on the middle finger of my right hand had grown to gargantuan proportions, I was very happy with the final product. Here's hoping you enjoy it as well.

Fog - embroidered wall hanging

Fog is one of the original creatures I stitched for my H.P. Lovecraft series. While the monsters in the series are not really based on specific Lovecraft creatures, they are all based on creatures I picture when reading his work.

This particular piece is called Fog because of the background, which is an experiment in needle felting. All of the "fog" is created using various colors of wool which have been punched into the fabric using special needles. I really like the end result -- an ominous, swirling, other-worldly fog.

Fog is framed in a 6-inch embroidery hoop that has been painted black. The entire piece was designed by me, and every stitch is done by hand. The back of the hoop has been enclosed using felt.

If you are looking for a unique piece of wall art, and are fond of all things creepy, then this just might be for you!

I'm sick to death from all of these vampire movies! When will the studios understand that the only undead creatures worth a keg of spit are ZOMBIES! I LOVE zombies to the point where I could almost use multiple exclamation points without feeling like a schmuck.

Anyway, in order for certain types of zombies (not the Romero, but the O'Bannon) to shuffle about, they need to keep themselves full of living brain tissue. This patch memorializes this by spelling out the word in zombie colors -- light greens, grays, and a little red to make it complete.

The embroidered portion of the patch measures 3.25" wide by 2.75 inches tall, so it's pretty hard to miss. It can be easily sewn or glued to any patch-appropriate surface (jackets, bags, pajamas) and is in no danger of snagging so you can safely show it with pride to your vampire-loving friends, who only wish they were as cool as you.

For a while, whenever anyone would ask me a question, I would say, "Let me consult the book I wrote," and pantomime turning through the pages of a large textbook.

When I pictured that book in my mind, it looked just like this one, except for the title. The title to my answer book was "Adam's Answers to Every Question in the Universe - Vol. 1" but that wouldn't fit on this patch. So I shortened the title to one word - the one thing all books have in common - WORDS.

Except for picture books, I guess. But I couldn't fit WORDS and PICTURES on the patch book, either. Nobody's perfect.

I spent quite a lot of time with my parents this summer, and one thing that I heard a lot about was the switch to HD television. For some reason, the only local channel they can receive now is the ABC affiliate from Duluth, and they were pining for the days when they could just turn on their TV and watch it.

I got to thinking that the old days weren't really any better. As I recall, during the summer months especially, we couldn't get any reception at all. Our over-the-air little TV never performed very well.

So that's where this piece came from. It is completely stitched by hand, and is my own design. It has been framed in a 7-inch wooden hoop that has been painted black, so that should give you some idea of the size of the piece.

It is finished, and ready to hang on the wall.

El Worm - fabric patch

When I was in Spain, the whole place was crawling with worms wearing traditional Spanish hats. I' m totally telling the truth. You can even ask my dad. This patch is a hand-stitched version of one of the photos I took of this strange Spanish phenomenon. It is 3.25" tall and 3" wide.

Some might say that this is too big for a decorative patch, and they may be right. These same people, however, might place El Worm in a small frame and use it to decorate a wall or shelf.

El Worm is backed with felt, and can be easily sewn or glued to any logical surface. (I say "logical" because I know there's a wise-elbow out there somewhere who will try to glue it to the surface of some body of water and then ask for his money back.)

Be the first (or possibly second) person on your block to own El Worm!

Those are either really huge raindrops or he's a very small clod. Either way, he's not having an easy time of it.

This decorative patch is about 2" wide by 3" tall. Like all patches in the shop, it's backed with felt for simple application with glue or a needle and thread. They are great as small pieces of framed art as well.

Father Nature - fabric patch

This design for this patch was based on ancient Maori face painting designs, but became something quite different. I call it Father Nature because I think it looks like some sort of pagan mask. If nothing else, it makes me think of some sort of Green God.

The embroidery measures 2.25 inches square, and is mounted on felt. You can easily glue or sew the patch to any appropriate surface.

Something Fishy

This one is a lot of fun for anyone who likes fish or ties. It's even better for that special man or woman who likes to see a fish embroidered ON a tie! The fish is 2.5" long and 3" tall, and the tie is about 60" in length (really, it's a tie for an adult male). I believe the tie is silk. That's how it feels, anyway, but there is no label to prove it. All of the embroidery is done by hand. This, as are all of my ties and patches, is a one-of-a-kind piece.

And don't forget -- these ties look great on the ladies, too.

This tie was an interesting one for me, because I had a difficult time deciding what to do with it. The pattern was so overwhelming that I couldn't use it as a simple background, so I decided to try something new by incorporating the pattern directly into the design. I'm pretty happy with the result.

In the wild west, three Xs on a bottle usually meant rotgut whiskey. In the film industry, three Xs mean that you probably should take your mom to a different movie.
