Where is the Snake - Fiber Art Wall Hanging - HOLIDAY SALE

$125.00
***Special Holiday Sale Price***

Size: 8.5 X 8
Materials: Wool Felt, Linen, Cotton , Organza Ribbon
Stitches: Running, Satin, Ribbon, Long/Short, Stem, Detached-Chain, French Knot, Blanket

***Note: First image is detail. Second is shot of entire piece. ***

This piece is definitely a one of a kind original work of art. The name comes from the question everyone asks when they see the piece: Where's the snake? The answer is simple -- the snake is gone and Chava (Eve) stands alone. This is the moment just before she makes her decision to eat.

.....Chava Decides
.....This is my decision. This is my first decision.
.....Do I eat and allow my mind and body to grow,
.....Knowing it will bring death into the world...
.....Or live in ignorance?

The snake is not present, because the focus is on her decision. In my midrash, Chava makes a choice, she is not tricked by the snake. She listens to the snake and then does something she’s never done — she makes a decision on her own — thereby beginning history (herstory, if you like).

The piece is entirely hand-embroidered and stitched. There is a hanger on the back which can be used to hang the piece as is, or it can be framed.

Besamim (Spice Box) - Altered Altoids 1 - HOLIDAY SALE

$18.00
***Special Holiday Sale Price***

This is the first in my series of altered Altoids boxes. I've developed a bit of an addiction to the chocolate covered and sours, and decided I needed to do something with the boxes!

The Altoids tin is covered with a hand embroidered cover featuring an original design. The artwork on the cover is intended to represent the scent of the spices swirling through the air. The stitches include running stitch in bright blue, white, pink, and green; french & colonial knots, sheaf stitch, seed stitches, and fly stitches. The edging was created using a heated modeling compound with which I cut an "egg and dart" border.

The box is filled with my own blend of spices which includes bay leaves, rose hips, rose petals, cinnamon, cardamom, and citrus. The sweet and spicy scent is sure to return your soul to you after Shabbat!

While my intent is for it to be used for the as a ritual spice box for the Jewish ritual of Havdalah -- it certainly can be used for keeping any treasures you like.
Hanukkah Seder PDF

$8.00
People have been asking for a formatted, printer ready version of my Hanukkah seder -- so here it is! This family friendly seder experience for Hanukkah is perfect for the 1st or 8th night of Hanukkah. The reason I like those two nights, is that you light all the candles during the seder. Depending on your culture -- you do that on either the first or last night!

This seder features four stories associated with Hanukkah and has four "courses" related to those stories: fish or soup, olive oil, root vegetables, and cheese.

It's a great way to try something new for Hanukkah and learn more about the holiday. We did it at my house last year, and it was a big hit. It's perfect for adults or kids -- and I think great for interfaith families or gatherings! I had a mixed crowd last year, and everyone really got into it.

**The images on the right are preview pages**

Within one day of payment being received -- you will be EMAILED A PDF. You are free to make as many copies of that document for personal use as you like.

Queen of Sheba - Original Fiber Art - HOLIDAY SALE

$72.00
Size: 6″x6″
Stitches: Cretan Stitch, Bead Stitch, Couching
Materials: Black Dupioni Silk, Varigated Over-dyed Silk Floss, Peacock Feather, Glass Beads, Frieze/Bullion Gold/Silver Combination Thread, Peacock Feathers

This one of a kind original is an experimental abstract fiber art portrait of the Queen of Sheba. Inspired by an astonishing midrash on her and King Solomon in The Nakedness of the Fathers: Biblical Visions and Revisions by Alicia Ostriker.

It’s on Dupioni Silk with variegated over-dyed silk floss (cretan sitches), peacock feathers, gold/silver (real) couched cord, and glass beads. I wanted to capture her beauty, seductive power and mystery — which is why I went abstract. My intent is to evoke the sinewy lines of an hourglass figure with the mystery and beauty of peacocks, which I associate with Solomon’s temple and gardens.

The piece is 6"x6" and stretched over a canvas frame. The frame is deep enough, about 1" so it could stand on it's own on a shelf or hang on a wall.

More at: http://embroidery.peelapom.com/portfolio/6-x-4/queen-of-sheba/

The fabric is muslin that I printed a page of an old Sears catalog. I love the old catalog and thought it could be fun to play with on fabric. For some reason, I really loved the corset images.

I decided to embroider an old fashioned light bulb on it. Shedding a little light on things?

The whole thing is securely framed in a 6" wooden hoop that has been wrapped in copper wire.
