Botielus (pronounced bow-TIE-less) is my musician boyfriend, who I have been shacking up with for quite some time. Early in our relationship, he noticed the type of "synthstrumental" music I like to listen to, and (being the confident & talented multi-instrumentalist he is) decided he could easily compose beautiful music that I would enjoy just as much. Turned out, I liked his arrangements better! And, once we started sharing it with others, found out that a broad spectrum of people like it very much, as well! So, though this started out just for me, his timeless music is now for all of you, too.

Botielus creates melodic symphonies and soundscapes using only synthesizers. He combines realistic traditional sounds (strings, oboe, piano, etc.) with pure synthesizer sounds - to create a virtual orchestra. His music is wonderfully unique, but has been compared to the music of Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Enigma, Vangelis, Mike Oldfield, and Yanni.

"Phresh Ideas" is Botielus' 3rd album, and was released only a month or so after his second album "Vision Quest". He used the same synthesizer, and recording methods, so it has the same sonic qualities of "Vision Quest". The songwriting changed a bit for some of the songs, more towards a pop type format. This is opposed to many of the "Vision Quest" songs, which were more like the Tangerine Dream and Jarre style (long melodic passages with different layers and melodies added - with only a few actual sections). So basically, "Phresh Ideas" is similar, yet different to "Vision Quest".

Rhythmic, Melodic and Invigorating Instrumental Music!

"Phresh Ideas" is a bit of a departure from Botielus’ "Vision Quest" CD, which I also own. That CD was more eclectic. "Phresh Ideas" is more of cohesive set of new age-like, synthesizer-driven instrumentals. Calling it new age is not quite right because that can call to mind some fairly dreary synthesizer “noodling.” This is much more. Some of the better features of new age music are here in the form of airy synthesizer tones, alternatively haunting, jaunty and at times, majestic. Botielus uses saxophone, trumpet, tubular bells, ocarina and pan flute sounds for the melodies that are par for the genre. However, Botielus then adds rhythmic beats and harmonic parts that are insistent and often danceable. He creates arrangements of swirling sounds and melodies that sweep you up in their energetic twists and turns. This music is invigorating. Botielus often walks a melodic high wire as the swirling and cascading parts stand on the edge of dashed discord and then melodically right themselves to reach a higher level. Botielus' sense of melody and rhythm call to mind the heyday of new age music, but with "Phresh Ideas", he creates something more lasting and much more interesting.

Jethro Tull RECORD BOWL or abstract sculpture - live at Carnegie Hall in 1972

12" vintage vinyl record "Living in the Past" by Jethro Tull, recorded live at Carnegie Hall in 1972.

The split-pea soup label inspired me to paint pea-spit squiggles (that became snakes once I added orange eyes the color of the Chrysalis butterfly logo). I imagine the insides of Ian Anderson's flutes might get as green without a good swabbing, after all that spitting!

Each of my Wreckords is a unique artwork that I paint and individually heat-shape by hand. My inspiration may come from a label design, song title, recording artist, or even a memory of the music that will no longer play.

Most all of the 45s, 78s, and 12" records that I use in my creations came to me via the Las Vegas craigslist, too scratched or warped to be listened to anymore. The mirror bits were from a Portland remodeling project, diverted from a landfill by another conscientious craigslister. Repurposing and upcycling at its best!

In case you would like to display your new artwork on a wall, included is a clear thumbtack so that you may start enjoying it straight out of the box, the day it arrives (I'm the kind of girl who likes her instant gratification RIGHT NOW).

Or, perhaps you might like to put it to a practical use? It can function as a conversation-starting bowl to hold things like: bananas, batteries, bracelets, buttons, candles, coins, flower pots, keys, marbles, napkins, paint tubes, paper clips, pet rocks, pine cones, polished stones, potpourri, rubber bands, seashells, thread, wrapped candy, yarn, etc. Don't fill it with anything oily or watery or gooey; stick to dry things you won't be sticking in your mouth (unless it's wrapped, like candy or bananas).

Clean your delightful new record art by simply wiping with a lint-free cloth. Do not immerse in water! It is water-resistant, but not waterproof, and most certainly won't survive a cycle in the dishwasher…not to mention ovens or cars or outdoors in the summer!

Do you know some people who just don't give a crap? Why don't you give them some with this perfect gag gift! Perhaps they'll express their appreciation by using them to make you a crappy thank-you card! Who cares if most of it might be poo brown! Let your apathetic friend/loved one work out some of their ennui by rubbing these brown logs until they get to the cornucopia of colors within!

That's right, there are a plethora of pretty hues swirled within this odious excrement. I peeled many non-toxic Crayolas for many scribbling surprises! To achieve the startling fecal realism, I hand-smooshed the inner beauty into turd shapes, and then applied the outer ugly of each floater with a paintbrush.

Though, I must clarify that these delightful doodies don't actually float, so if you try to use one to recreate the famous Baby Ruth pool scene from Caddyshack, the effect may be delayed until someone in goggles dives deep enough to see a sinker.

Butt please, keep these turds out of the toilet. Wouldn't want to accidentally flush one! That would not be a smooth move, Ex-Lax.

Assuming size matters: Each lovely log measures from 2 to 3 inches long. The gross weight of two turds together totals approximately 2.25 ounces.

Butt wait - that's not all! The enclosed protective latex glove fits both left AND right hands - like a glove! And, the can it came in proclaims it has "1,001 Amazing Uses", so it's one super valuable item (providing you don't have a latex allergy).

I scream, you scream, we all scream for…OUCH! Brain freeze!

That's what you get when you eat frozen treats too fast!

This Ice Cream Headache doesn't hurt near as much (if at all, in fact), and is surprisingly light on the head, as the creamy delicacies are purely paper pulp! It might L@@K like something you'd like to eat, but someone nearby will need to know the Heimlich Maneuver, if you do!

I made these "Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream" balls from mint green & chocolate brown paper that I shredded, blended with water, strained and shaped (the scoops by hand, and the chips by drying flat as a sheet and then cutting asymmetrically with scissors). They are solid color with no paint on them (just clearcoat to make them shiny & water-resistant).

Hilarity ensues as people ask "what's that on your head?" and you answer them with a pained expression as you clutch your noggin.

This saucy dish of fabulous faux food is securely attached with clear fishing line to a stretchy tan band that blends in well with blonde hair. It also complements brunette and auburn shades!

Included with your "dessert" from the desert is a tiny pink spoon to add to the startling realism of this nutty novelty. And, I'll ship it in an upcycled to-go container/gift box to milk the joke for every drop it's worth!

A beautifully lush and animated journey out of mind.

"Vision Quest" is highly melodic and compelling music. Some of the more subdued pieces could be called “relaxing,” but I like to describe the effect of this music in the right setting as “transcendent.” I enjoy music that takes you out of yourself for a little while. Botielus makes this journey out of mind extremely pleasant - full of twists and turns of melody, tempo and instrumentation. Botielus uses nature and acoustic instrument sounds to create a rich atmosphere upon which he builds lush synthesizer sounds and percussive undercurrents.

“Saturdays” is somewhat reminiscent of Vangelis and yet grooves in a way Vangelis could only dream about. “Excito,” sounds to me like an exciting journey through the night sky. Other pieces like “Omri” are somewhat mysterious and seductively dark. On “535,” Botielus renders up a bluesy tune that would fit perfectly in a roadside café off of the Karma highway. "Vision Quest" is definitely not airy, forgettable background music. Instead, Botielus has created music that is complex and animated - sometimes relaxing, sometimes picking you up and carrying you along in a wave of transcendent music. Fans of new age music will find this CD to be familiar and yet an entirely original experience.

SALE - powder pink and baby blue (plus white) crocheted stocking hat with jingle bell - adult size, handmade, and one of a kind

This is a one-of-a-kind stocking hat that I crocheted from several different acrylic yarns. I must have been working in a dimly lit room, because I now notice the whites are three different shades, the multi-colors don't match, and there are (((gasp))) two botched stitches! Usually I'll unravel all my work no matter how far back I spot the mistake, so I must have really been asleep at the wheel on this one!

Ah well, my lack of perfectionism on this particular project is your gain, to the tune of $5 off my regular stocking hat price.

The widest multi-color band includes white, powder pink, and baby blue. The smaller one towards the jingle bell at the tip includes powder pink, baby blue, mint green, and lavender.

I made it to fit adult heads, with a little leeway in size depending on whether or not it is worn cuffed (to make it slightly smaller) or not.

Laid out flat, it measures 30 inches.

On the inside, and at the back of the hat, I have securely hand-sewn a non-scratchy black fabric label with woven lettering that reads: "Handmade for you by Cybele, Cybelesque.com".

Though it's been reported that similar hats I've made have survived laundering in washing machines, I don't recommend it, and would suggest hand washing and laying flat to dry after gently rolling in a towel.

This is a one-of-a-kind stocking hat that I crocheted from "Napa Grape" and "Amish Black" CHUNKY * USA Lion Brand ("Famous For Quality Since 1878") acrylic yarn in alternating stripes. At the end is a metal jingle bell.

It fits adult heads, with a little leeway in size depending on whether or not it is worn cuffed (to make it slightly smaller) or not.

Laid out flat, it measures 27 inches.

Though it greatly resembles this other black and purple stocking hat I made, http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=33432051 it differs in that I began and ended this one with purple, whereas I began and ended that one with black. Also, this one is slightly smaller, and has more purple than black.

If you get them as a his-and-hers set, you get a break on the shipping!

LOOPY LULU crocheted stocking hat with pink ruffle - adult size, handmade, and one of a kind

This is a one-of-a-kind hat that I crocheted from white, gray, and multi-colored acrylic yarn in several shades of pink and gray that made a nifty pattern of its own accord.

As I was nearing completion of what I had intended to be my umpteenth jingle-belled stocking hat, my boyfriend Botielus http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6105587§ion_id=5582544 challenged me to make it even more different from the rest. So, I switched to some pastel pink yarn and went to town on a ruffle, closing the top with a circle of white that could be a toilet paper cozy, and finished it off with a "flower" of loops. It's so crazy, I named it LOOPY LULU!

…and then I went back to crocheting my hats pointy with jingle bells ;-p

This is a one-of-a-kind stocking hat that I crocheted from white and multi-colored acrylic yarn that reminds me of delicious buttermint candies in lemon yellow, pastel pink, and mint green. At the end is a metal jingle bell. Perfect for people who prefer pretty pastels!

I made it to fit adult heads, with a little leeway in size depending on whether or not it is worn cuffed (to make it slightly smaller) or not.

Laid out flat, it measures 29 inches.

On the inside, and at the back of the hat, I have securely hand-sewn a non-scratchy black fabric label with woven lettering that reads: "Handmade for you by Cybele, Cybelesque.com".

Though it's been reported that similar hats I've made have survived laundering in washing machines, I don't recommend it, and would suggest hand washing and laying flat to dry after gently rolling in a towel.

This is a one-of-a-kind stocking hat that I crocheted from hot pink, safety orange, and lime green acrylic yarn. At the end is a tassel of orange, pink, and yellow yarn surrounding a metal jingle bell. Super for someone who really wants to stand out on the slopes!

I made it to fit adult heads, with a little leeway in size depending on whether or not it is worn cuffed (to make it slightly smaller) or not.

White Fish FLOWER KUSUDAMA - embossed paper, sushi grass, and a wiggly fishy - one of a kind

Nothing's fishy about this unique ornament, unless you count the tiny tin wiggler dangling from the end! His gold body is segmented into seven sections, and he has beady red eyes. But, he has no smell!

Neither has the beautiful flower above, which I folded and glued together from 30 two-inch squares of exquisite ecru paper, embossed with a reptilian skin pattern. This particular kind of origami is called "kusudama", though that's technically a complete ball, and this one's a hemisphere that can lay flat against a wall.

The backing is several pieces of upcycled plastic sushi grass, under which the hanging cord is hidden. The twisted ends suggest seaweed, though are in fact lengths of wire threaded through green glass seed beads.

The flower itself measures 3 inches across, the fishy is 2.5 inches, and the whole beautiful piece is 12 inches long.

Aural Gratification - Cybelvis Monroe enjoys some music - unique fine artwork made from real records

This is a one-of-a-kind fine art piece that I made from canvas stretched over a wood frame, a 12" vinyl LP, a 45 record, and a sheet of white vinyl sticker that I cut into the shape of Cybelvis Monroe enjoying some "Aural Gratification".

The canvas and 45, I painted red, and added sound waves wrapping around the sides of the canvas, in white.

Under the sticker, I inserted reflective, silver-mirrored plastic cutouts for her sunglasses lenses, and added some red glitter to her lips.

Signed by me and dated 10/08 in silver in the lower right hand corner.

Wired and ready to hang, it needs no frame.

It measures 12 inches x 12 inches x 1.5 inches, and I'll include a hook and nail so that you may have instant decorating gratification!

Please note that at this point, I'm guessing as to the shipping charge on this item. After it goes off in the mail, I will issue a refund on any amount I may have overcharged.

Each of my Wreckords is a unique artwork that I paint and individually heat-shape by hand. My inspiration may come from a label design, song title, recording artist, or even a memory of the music that will no longer play.

Most all of the 45s, 78s, and 12" records that I use in my creations came to me via the Las Vegas craigslist, too scratched or warped to be listened to anymore. The mirror bits were from a Portland remodeling project, diverted from a landfill by another conscientious craigslister. Repurposing and upcycling at its best!

In case you would like to display your new artwork on a wall, included is a clear thumbtack so that you may start enjoying it straight out of the box, the day it arrives (I'm the kind of girl who likes her instant gratification RIGHT NOW).

Or, perhaps you might like to put it to a practical use? It can function as a conversation-starting bowl to hold things like: bananas, batteries, bracelets, buttons, candles, coins, flower pots, keys, marbles, napkins, paint tubes, paper clips, pet rocks, pine cones, polished stones, potpourri, rubber bands, seashells, thread, wrapped candy, yarn, etc. Don't fill it with anything oily or watery or gooey; stick to dry things you won't be sticking in your mouth (unless it's wrapped, like candy or bananas).

Here in the middle of the Mojave Desert, it can get really hot. "How hot?" you ask. Hot enough to fry a record on the sidewalk! (((rimshot)))

Fun photos by Botielus aside, I don't recommend you display this particular egg outside, as it may melt even more. And then it wouldn't balance over the edge just so, as it does now. To make matters stickier, I glued a grippy strip of black rubber on the underside, so it can even hang loose off a smooth ledge without slipping.

The LP was released by "Manic Scenes" in 1985 on The Weird Turn Pro Records, and the label may be read in its original cholesterol yellow state, sealed with a couple layers of clearcoat. I did the back one too, so the artwork is water-resistant and may be wiped occasionally with a damp cloth to keep it dust-free. Because who wants dirt in their eggs?

Mirror Wreckord - two 1974 records and four orange fabric flowers make one pretty piece

I've had these fabric sunflowers for quite some time, never knowing exactly what to do with them until this 45 record came to me via craigslist. Orange you glad? They complement each other perfectly! "California My Way" is the appropriate song, by The Main Ingredient.

The 12" record is a compilation album entitled "Time Passages", featuring Mac Davis, The Youngbloods, Sammi Smith, Paul Anka, Bay City Rollers, and Glen Campbell. At least, those are the artists visible on the backside - the ones on the front are hidden from view.

I heat-shaped both records by hand, sandwiched a little mirror between them, and then affixed the fabric flowers - one big one and three little ones, with a few green leaves.

Please be aware that the components are vintage, and this is an upcycled artwork, so be sure to zoom in on the pictures to examine the condition before purchasing.

"REBEL" is the tune by Carol Jarvis on an ULTRA HIGH FIDELITY Dot 45rpm record that I heat-shaped and glued to a little piece of repurposed mirror*. They nest in the 12" compilation LP "Time Passages", that I also shaped by hand after heating.

This is one of the more manly mirrors I've made from unplayable records, suitable for a rockabilly rebel to check his Brylcreem hairdo in. A little Dot'll do ya!

*Please note that the mirror, not being new, has a few specks that won't come off. Of course, that just adds to the vintage look!

Mirror Wreckord - two glittery 45s and one 12 inch make a beautiful and unique upcycled flower

It's a challenge to show the subtle beauty of this piece, as the glittery paintjob adds even more shine to the records. Hopefully between all the snapshots, you can get a pretty good idea, but I don't doubt that when you see it in real life you'll still be pleasantly surprised.

I sandwich a tiny mirror between two 45rpm records that I sprayed with dusty rose pink lame' and heat-shaped, and then affixed the works to a 12" vinyl record (Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East on Capricorn), which I also glitter-painted & heat-shaped by hand.

I call it "dusty rose" because it reminds me of a flower of that color, not because it's in need of a cleaning!

"ARTEEN" is the name of the record company, but I think it also could be the artistic teenager who smiles at herself in this unusual record mirror.

OSMOND TEETH record bowl or abstract sculpture - Donny Bites Back

12" vinyl record: "Phase III" by The Osmonds.

I hand-cut a stencil from a photo of Donny Osmond's teeth, and then painted his pearly whites in rings around this record that mysteriously already had a "bite" taken out of it. Maybe it was the roaring MGM lion on the label!

Sealed with 2 coats of varnish, which has ambered the teeth a little, so they're not exactly blinding blanc.
