$50.00
Currently $3 off!

In "Germanica", the Roman historian Tacitus describes how staffs from a fruitbearing tree is marked with runes, who then are used to divinie the future.

This is my vision of how those staffs may have been made. The design partially came to me in a dream and I consider them to be divinely inspired.

Currently, I have sets made from apple (the main picture), juniper (the second picture) or rose wood (the third picture). Please let me know what kind of wood you want. NEW! I also have sets in beech (not shown).

The process of making them starts with collecting the wood. Mostly it comes from branches broken in a storm or by heavy snowfall. In those cases, I tell the tree I want to take the branch and leave a clean wound from sawing it off, instead of the more exposed surface from splintering. I also leave a gift for the tree, spring water, ale or something other suitable sacrifice.

After taking the wood, I carefully select smaller branches with the right width. I want the whole set to fit into the grip of a hand but the single staff not be too weak and snap. I then cut the branches into appropriate length and carve a flat surface at one end of it.

I then burn a set of 25 staffs with each of the runes of the Uthark, leaving one blank for those who use an empty rune in their oracular work. I enter into a semi-trance before marking the staffs and each rune is sung as I burn it into the wood.

Every set comes in a pouch made from indigo-coloured wool, sewn with red wool yarn that is plant dyed. The string that pulls the pouch together is adorned with beads of glass, amber, bone or horn, everyone with a different and unique combination.

A short introduction to rune oracles and the meanings of the runes is included.
