Floral Study - Dry Point Etching with Collage

This image comes from a series of prints made from a dry point etching. Each print in the series is unique, although they are printed from the same plate. The use of various collage pieces makes each one different.

The print will be send in an archival envelope with a stiff backing board to be sure it arrives safely.

Drypoint is a method of intaglio printmaking in which the artist scratches directly on the plate with a sharp instrument such as an etching needle. The technique differs from etching in that it is entirely manual and does not involve the use of acid to cut the plate.

Streetside II is part of a series of drypoint etchings that are about imaginary urban areas. They are reminiscent of those childhood memories of the neighborhoods where we grew up.

This print is made from a plexiglass plate that has the image scratched into the surface. The plate is inked, wiped and covered with wet paper and printed. This print has additional collage elements added to it also.

The resulting print is unique because the plate is always inked differently. I use non-toxic materials in my smoke free studio. This piece is framed in a matt black slim gallery style metal frame.

This is a mixed media piece. The drawing for this piece was done in a digital drawing program. The drawing was then printed on a mylar transparency, and the mylar is attached to the unique printed background. The background is a monoprint, made with water based oil paints.

Because the drawing is printed on a semi-transparent ground, it allows the underneath colors to show through. Do you remember, as a child, coloring a square with bright color crayons and then covering it over with black? This piece was inspired by that technique.

The composition is part of the series exploring the way things look from an airplane window, flying over geometric patterns on the ground.

This is a solar plate print. The composition was inspired by an exploration of the way things look from an airplane window, flying over geometric patterns on the ground.

The drawing for the plate was made in a digital drawing program. Then the drawing was printed on mylar, which was put over the solar plate and exposed to UV light. The image was burned into the plate, which was then inked, wiped, and printed on damp paper.

This painting is a continuation of my exploration of the use of different media for the same subject. A line of clothing, on a sunny day, caught my eye on a trip to South Africa. This is an original digital painting that was done in two programs called Art Rage and in Photoshop. Painting on the computer is very different from painting with a brush.I use a graphics tablet and stylus. I like this form of art because it allows me to be loose and "shoot from the hip". This painting inspired the making of a solar plate called "Laundry". You can see the original print in my shop.

The image is printed on archival Velvet Fine Art paper, with archival pigment inks. It will be shipped in a clear archival sleeve with supporting board to insure that it arrives safely.

This charming scene was one that I saw in rural South Africa, on a trip to visit my family. The different garments, blowing in the breeze, made a very appealing composition.
