This kaleidoscope, is handcrafted by the artisan/seller in "Dymondwood". "Dymondwood" is a laminated product made in Rutland, VT, USA. Thin layers of maple veneer are died in a variety of colors and then laminated in various patterns to produce a striking "rainbow" wood that is very colorful, stable, and finishes nicely. I cut and turn the "Dymondwood" into the kaleidoscope body. The object chamber is an image wheel filled with a variety of colored objects which "tumble" as the wheel is turned while viewing. The mirror assembly inside the body of the 'scope uses the best quality "front surface mirrors" (see explanation below). The resulting image or "view" is a striking, slow-moving, yet always changing "kaleidoscope" of colors that is a delight to watch.

The round, colored picture is a sample of the "view". Keep in mind that a kaleidoscope "view" is moving so the sample is a "stop-frame" of a view and is only representative of the moving colors.

This kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan/seller, is one of a limited edition series crafted using empty cigar boxes and copper tubing to make a body for an image wheel kaleidoscope. The cigar box is approximately 6” long, by approximately 3” wide, by approximately 3” tall. The overall kaleidoscope measures approximately 9” long.

The image wheel is approximately 2 ¾” in diameter and is filled with a mixture of brightly colored, various shaped glass gems and other objects.

The mirror assembly inside the copper tubing uses front-surface mirrors (see explanation below). The image wheel, when spun on the axel, while one views through the eye hole, provides an always-changing view of the colorful contents in the image cell.

The cigar box is sealed to protect the mirror assembly and there are dust shields on either end of the copper tube, again, to protect the mirror assembly.

The walnut trees in England are of the same general species as American Black Walnut, but the wood is much richer, somewhat darker, and has more irregular grain patterning. A much different piece than one made in American Black Walnut. The 'scope is easily held in one hand to view the brightly colored patterns of the objects chamber through a three-piece assembly of front-surface mirrors (see below for explanation of front-surface mirrors) and glass eye pieces.

"Dymondwood" is a wood product made of thin strips of maple and birch veneer which have been dyed a variety of colors and then are laminated under extreme heat and pressure in an almost infinite number of patterns. "Dymondwood" is made in Vermont, USA. The resulting product is turned by artisan/seller on a wood lathe to create the distinctive, colorful handles for this functional, yet decorative cutlery.

Makes a very nice gift.

Because "Dymondwood" is a wood product, these items of cutlery should NOT be cleaned in a dishwasher, but the fork should be hand cleaned in soap and water. Inserting the handles in water tends to diminish the luster of the handle.

The trees apparently died naturally and fell into a bog (swamp) where they were preserved until recently when the bog dried and they appeared. The logs are being salvaged and milled for use by woodworkers the world over.

"Dymondwood" is a wood product made of thin strips of maple and birch veneer which have been dyed a variety of colors and then are laminated under extreme heat and pressure in an almost infinite number of patterns. "Dymondwood" is made in Vermont, USA. The resulting product is turned by artisan/seller on a wood lathe to create the distinctive, colorful handles for this functional, yet decorative cutlery. Thin layers of maple veneer are died a variety of colors and then laminated in various patterns to produce a striking rainbow wood that is very colorful, stable and finishes nicely. The metal parts are solid brass with 10K gold plating.

The perfume holder can be used as a key ring or as a pendant/necklace. (Silk lanyard included.)

Stored inside the tube, secured by a screw-cap, is a glass vial, with built-in applicator, to safely hold your favorite perfume.
