Kaleidoscope, Handcrafted, Image Wheel, Dymondwood

$59.00
This kaleidoscope, is handcrafted by the artisan/seller in "Dymondwood". "Dymondwood" is a laminated product made in Rutland, VT, USA. Thin layers of maple veneer are died in a variety of colors and then laminated in various patterns to produce a striking "rainbow" wood that is very colorful, stable, and finishes nicely. I cut and turn the "Dymondwood" into the kaleidoscope body. The object chamber is an image wheel filled with a variety of colored objects which "tumble" as the wheel is turned while viewing. The mirror assembly inside the body of the 'scope uses the best quality "front surface mirrors" (see explanation below). The resulting image or "view" is a striking, slow-moving, yet always changing "kaleidoscope" of colors that is a delight to watch.

The round, colored picture is a sample of the "view". Keep in mind that a kaleidoscope "view" is moving so the sample is a "stop-frame" of a view and is only representative of the moving colors.
___________________________________________________________
FRONT SURFACE MIRRORS & KALEIDOSCOPES
___________________________________________________________
When an ordinary mirror is used in a kaleidoscope, light must pass through a layer of glass before being reflected by the silvering on the back of the mirror. Since glass is not perfectly clear or perfectly flat, some attenuation of the image results, along with “ghost images” caused by reflection off of the surface of the glass. These undesirable effects are compounded in a kaleidoscope mirror assembly and cause the viewing field’s outermost edges to dim, blur, and become full of interference lines.

By using aluminized front surface mirrors these problems are solved. Front surface mirror is made by vacuum depositing a highly reflective aluminum surface coating onto the FRONT
of the glass. The light then reflects off the aluminized coating and does not pass through the glass. The high reflectivity (approximately 95%) and the absence of ghost images permits a brilliant image which remains clear and bright throughout the viewing field. The resulting “hall of mirrors” effect results in images and colors that are much sharper and more intense than would be possible using ordinary mirror.

The kaleidoscope is 9 1/2" long and 2 1/4" wide.

Comes in a gift box.

Kaleidoscope, Handcrafted, Image Wheel, Cigar Box/Copper Pipe

$52.00
This kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan/seller, is one of a limited edition series crafted using empty cigar boxes and copper tubing to make a body for an image wheel kaleidoscope. The cigar box is approximately 6” long, by approximately 3” wide, by approximately 3” tall. The overall kaleidoscope measures approximately 9” long.

The image wheel is approximately 2 ¾” in diameter and is filled with a mixture of brightly colored, various shaped glass gems and other objects.

The mirror assembly inside the copper tubing uses front-surface mirrors (see explanation below). The image wheel, when spun on the axel, while one views through the eye hole, provides an always-changing view of the colorful contents in the image cell.

The cigar box is sealed to protect the mirror assembly and there are dust shields on either end of the copper tube, again, to protect the mirror assembly.
___________________________________________________________

FRONT SURFACE MIRRORS & KALEIDOSCOPES
___________________________________________________________
When an ordinary mirror is used in a kaleidoscope, light must pass through a layer of glass before being reflected by the silvering on the back of the mirror. The walnut trees in England are of the same general species as American Black Walnut, but the wood is much richer, somewhat darker, and has more irregular grain patterning. A much different piece than one made in American Black Walnut. The 'scope is easily held in one hand to view the brightly colored patterns of the objects chamber through a three-piece assembly of front-surface mirrors (see below for explanation of front-surface mirrors) and glass eye pieces.

The 'scope is 2 3/4" long and 1 1/2" wide.
___________________________________________________________

FRONT SURFACE MIRRORS & KALEIDOSCOPES
___________________________________________________________
When an ordinary mirror is used in a kaleidoscope, light must pass through a layer of glass before being reflected by the silvering on the back of the mirror. The resulting product is turned by artisan/seller on a wood lathe to create the distinctive, colorful handles for this functional, yet decorative cutlery.

Makes a very nice gift.

Because "Dymondwood" is a wood product, these items of cutlery should NOT be cleaned in a dishwasher, but the fork should be hand cleaned in soap and water. Inserting the handles in water tends to diminish the luster of the handle.

Size is approximately 11 1/2" long by 3/4" wide.

Lacewood is a reddish-brown with pronounced rays that look like a "lace pattern". Unusual look.

Dymondwood is a laminated product made in Rutland, VT, USA. Thin layers of maple veneer are died a variety of colors and then laminated in various patterns to produce a striking rainbow wood that is very colorful, stable and finishes nicely. I cut and turn the Dymondwood into the mini-kaleidoscope.

Believed to come from logs over 50,000 years old. The trees apparently died naturally and fell into a bog (swamp) where they were preserved until recently when the bog dried and they appeared. The logs are being salvaged and milled for use by woodworkers the world over.

The object chamber is an image wheel filled with a variety of colored objects which "tumble" as the wheel is turned while viewing.

$29.00
A mini kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan/seller in Macassar Ebony (also known as black and white striped ebony). This wood has a rich creamy texture with rich black stripes that meander through the wood grain. Generally found in Southeast Asia, this piece came from New Guinea.

_________________________________________________________

FRONT SURFACE MIRRORS & KALEIDOSCOPES
_________________________________________________________

__________________________________________________________

Comes in a gift box.

____________________________________________________________
Comes in a gift box.

$29.00
A mini kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan/seller in Bolivian Rosewood. Bolivian Rosewood is a rich chocolate brown with dark brown to black grain patterning, that provides a deep lustre to the finished 'scope.

____________________________________________________________
Comes in a gift box.

Kaleidoscope, Handcrafted, Mini, Wood, Dymondwood

$29.00
A mini kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan/seller in Dymondwood.

____________________________________________________________
Comes in a gift box.

The wood from a Macadamia Nut Tree is a light brown/red with a wavy grain pattern, while the koa is a lighter brown/tan in color.

____________________________________________________________
Comes in a gift box.

____________________________________________________________
Comes in a gift box.

The 'scope is easily held in one hand to view. The oil-filled wand is filled with brightly colored objects and will provide lots of fun for persons of all ages. The body contains a three-piece assembly of front-surface mirrors (see below for explanation of front-surface mirrors).

The body of the 'scope is 3" long and 1" wide.
Kaleidoscope, Handcrafted, Mini Oil Wand, Cochen Rosewood

$29.00
A mini oil wand kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan/seller, in Cochen Rosewood from S.E. Asia. A rich, chocolate brown color.

The oil wand is 6" long and approximately 1/4" round.

To view a SAMPLE of the view from an mini oil wand kaleidoscope go http://www.youtube.com/user/wrightmade

________________________________________________________

FRONT SURFACE MIRRORS & KALEIDOSCOPES

__________________________________________________________

Comes in a gift box.

Kaleidoscope, Handcrafted, Mini, Ancient Kauri Wood

$29.00
A mini kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan/seller in Ancient Kauri wood from North Island of New Zealand. Believed to come from logs over 50,000 years old. The trees apparently died naturally and fell into a bog (swamp) where they were preserved until recently when the bog dried and they appeared. The logs are being salvaged and milled for use by woodworkers the world over.

____________________________________________________________
Comes in a gift box.

Kaleidoscope, Handcrafted, Mini, Wood, Russian Olive

$29.00
A mini kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan in Russian Olive wood. Russian Olive trees, really almost tall shrubs, are widely planted in the upper plains of central USA in shelter belts. The wood is tan to dark brown with generally linear grain patterning.

__________________________________________________________

FRONT SURFACE MIRRORS & KALEIDOSCOPES

____________________________________________________________

Comes in a gift box.

Kaleidoscope, Handcrafted, Mini, Wood, Spalted Maple

$29.00
A mini kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan/seller in spalted maple from New England, USA.

____________________________________________________________

Comes in a gift box.

Kaleidoscope, Handcrafted, Mini, African Pink Ivory Wood

$29.00
A mini kaleidoscope, handcrafted by artisan/seller in a piece of Pink Ivory wood from South Africa. Grown on managed wood lots, the wood is harvested as a crop. It's pink/red color and fine grain is prized by carvers and wood turners around the world.

____________________________________________________________
Comes in a gift box.

The idea is the same in all of the scopes.
___________________________________________________________

FRONT SURFACE MIRRORS & KALEIDOSCOPES

__________________________________________________________

Comes in a gift box.
