My Funny Valentine (coat)

This coat popped out of my head as I listened to Elvis Costello croon 'My Funny Valentine'. Then I had to listen to Rufus Wainwright and then of course Ella. Thick red felted wool becomes a warm playful high waisted coat, the bodice and sleeves are lined with soft silky black poly, sprinkled with tiny red polka-dots. The hood is detachable, there is a backbelt, hand-stitched and held with two pewter buttons. 5 different pewter buttons close the bodice. There is room to wear a sweater underneath. This is a happy coat celebrating the joy of real love.

from the scattered screened butterflies on a brown cotton shirt, I decided that Ko Ko San needed a new life--as a reversible vest. Casual, to wear with jeans, the side seams unbutton, a small winged creature with golden antennae lites near the single hook and eye closure and the reverse is lightly specked mocha-colored cotton knit. Oh--a beaded pocket on the front for a short list or a listening device...perhaps to Puccini.
