My friend calls it a "Gods eye view" of the reunion of the two brothers as described in Genesis.
Prior to their meeting, Jacob sent a gift of many flocks of
sheep to Esau. The sheep in my painting also stand for the flocks of innocent souls consumed in the conflict between the brothers’ descendants. May the final reunion and the resolution of the conflict come speedily.

In Jacob’s dream of the ladder, when he awoke and said “God is in this place and I did not know it” revealed that God is in every place and the ladder, the connection with God is available to all who are conscious of it.
The Hebrew word for Angel can also be interpreted as messenger. In my painting the Angels ascending and descending in the Biblical description of the dream are replaced by messages in letter form.

There is a prayer said during Sabbath and Holiday morning services called "Nishmat" that begins "The spirit of all living…". I think that the drawings and inscriptions of our prehistoric ancestors best capture the Spirits of God's creatures.
Painting extends around the edges of the canvas. A frame would be nice but not absolutely necessary.

This image had been in my head since that terrible day.
I was working in my office a few miles from Ground Zero.
I immediately went down to St. Vincent's Hospital, which was between my office and the tragedy, to see if I could help in some way. The ambulances never came.
The image of the ladder-like skeletal remains of the once magnificent Twin Towers brought to my mind a quotation from Genesis 28 v.12: "Behold a ladder set on earth and the top of it reached to Heaven"and the image in this painting took shape in my mind. The remains of the towers reaching toward heaven with the souls of the departed rising in the columns of light symbolized by shards of multi colored glass.
This was the first painting I did when I retired from my Graphic Design business and moved to Tucson in 2005.
