Green Thumb Glass Pendant Necklace

So named because the pendant on this necklace looks like someone pressed it flat with their thumb. I strung a pressed green glass bead onto a contrasting copper ball and chain strand, then replaced the standard issue ball and chain clasp with a more secure, easier to operate screw clasp. To complete the piece, I added a tiny copper charm next to the clasp.

A new addition to my selection of recycled paper beads, these oversized beads are great for all kinds of projects.

These are my own version of handcut, handrolled recycled paper beads. I make each one by hand from used packing paper, then finish them with matte sealer to protect against moisture and maintain the natural brown kraft paper finish.

I use my handmade paper beads in numerous projects (some of which can be seen here in my shop), and am now making them available to others. You'll receive a resealable bag of 8 unique beads in various sizes. These are great for all sorts of projects. Though they are paper, and should be kept from excessive moisture, they boast several coats of matte sealant, so they are able to withstand limited contact with water. If you'd like to order quantities, or need to purchase wholesale (minimum order required), please convo me.

Another original just off my easel. This is an abstract painting by me. Inspired by colors, textures, and movement seen in nature. Bits of papier mache pulp (made from recycled papers) were used to create the rhythmic swirl of nodules that radiate out from the corner. Turn it/ hang it however the mood strikes - I like it turned every way! As the "nodules" extend to the outside edges of the canvas, this piece does not require a frame, though one can be ordered custom at many frame shops to suit it. I really enjoyed taking this piece from my imagination to canvas - hope you like it too!

Peekaboo Heart bowl

This adorable little bowl is the newest addition to artspell's everyday mache collection. The outside is chocolate cake brown with flecks of it's kelly green undercoat peeking through. The inside is a soft lavender with a dark chocolate heart that has a maroon velvet center. The texture of the bowl and the lavender brushed rim give it the appearance of a delicious piece of chocolate cake topped with pretty colored icing.

Made from a papier mache pulp of newspaper, junk mail, and other recyclable paper, this bowl is a lightweight yet hard, sturdy piece. It is a testament to my love of creating functional art and, because the pulp dries to such a hard surface, is virtually non-breakable. *Please see the end of this and all my listings for measurements!

Place this fun, unique piece on a table to hold everything from fruit or candy, to keys and change. Finished with several layers of matte varnish, but has just the right amount of shine on the inside. Intended for light use and decor. Not food safe. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

This unique piece is the latest addition to my collection of papier mache decor pieces. It is a decorative pedestal, made of recycled paper. Use this handsome piece to display/hold all sorts of things, from decorative fruit to jewelry. It can even be used to serve cookies or desserts, provided a plate, napkin, or doily is placed on it first to protect it.

I hand sculpted the top and bottom separately (check out the detail in the images!!) from papier mache pulp, and once dry, I joined them together securely and painted them. This is a pretty sturdy piece, but since it is made from paper, I recommend nothing over 2 pounds being placed on it.

Though this piece has been carefully finished with several layers of protective varnish, it is not intended for extended exposure to wet conditions , and is not food safe (use a plate, napkin, or doily). May be wiped clean with a damp cloth.

I have been told that maybe I should focus on just one or two forms of artistic pursuit, but why, when there are so many wonderful, beautiful things out there to experiment with? I find gourds to be another irresistible, lovely way to create, and though I can't devote loads of time to exploring the possibilities with them, I have stolen some moments to see what I could come up with.

Nature has done much of the work - the shapes and tactile nature of these fruits is amazing. It's fun to try to accent their natural beauty. Each gourd is, of course, one of a kind. They still contain their seeds, so they also make great little musical instruments.:o) The gourd pictured here was nice enough that I had to leave some of the natural color exposed. Finished with a matte varnish that adds a pretty smooth satin look and feel.

This eyecatching little sculpture was handmade by me from a paper pulp of recycled materials. Sized and shaped like a real apple, yet has a design inspired twist: barcodes hand-drawn in graphite over most of the surface. Painted a golden honey colored base, then dry-brushed with a contrasting light lettuce color, leaving some of the honey colored base visible. Signed by me and finished with several coats of matte varnish. It's amazing what paper can become, isn't it?

Papier mache is a fun, earth friendly medium that I think should become a part of everyone's homes in these times of amending our ways for the environment. Useful, satisfying everyday objects can be made in this medium, which can easily biodegrade once their usefulness has ended.

This decorative pitcher style vessel was inspired by my love of antiquities from around the world, including Egyptian, Greek, and Roman pieces. It is an original papier mache piece, finished to resemble other materials, as I often like to do. I built the form up in papier mache paying special attention to creating the spout and handle. Then I began numerous sessions of layering acrylic color, then sanding, then layering more color to achieve the unique surface. The price reflects the time I put into this one of a kind piece. The metal tripod pictured is included, but the vase can be displayed without it. Dried or silk florals can be added to this piece, but it can definitely be displayed as is! Not for use with water. As with every item I ship, this item will be packed with care to arrive safely and in good condition.

This is a comfortable, adjustable, wide band antique brass finish ring that features a slim black strip which was fabricated by me. The strip is polymer clay that I hand sculpted, cured, and carved. Great for a guy or a girl, this one slips easily onto my size 8 finger, but can be squeezed tighter for smaller fingers, or opened up for larger fingers. Very tough. Very unique. The difference is a bright, smooth, glass-like finish which illuminates the attributes of the recycled paper underneath and extends the life of the beads. This is a selection of my "poetry" style rolled beads. They are made from the pages of a vintage book, so words and letters (and the occasional splash of black & white illustrations) can be seen on many of them.

The exercise of snapping pictures to inspire my other projects often produces images that demand a life of their own. Some become limited edition prints, and some, like this one, become greeting cards. This is a handmade greeting card with a little touch of humor, snarkiness, and warm fuzzy all rolled into one. The outside features a blue toned computer enhanced image of an empty chair with the words “you suck” below it. Inside, the card reads “miss you.” It came to me when I was thinking about how I sometimes feel a little miffed at friends & loved ones when they can’t be nearby, but love them just the same and can joke about it. A cute sentiment to send to a special someone. Arrives in a cello sleeve and packed with recycled board to prevent bending/crushing.

The image is mounted onto acid-free specialty papers, then onto a 5 x 7 recycled kraft paper card. Includes a natural white recycled envelope.

A new twist on an old idea. This bracelet is an antique brass finished piece that features a carved, dyed bone focal bead. I like to imagine the shapes on the bead could be symbols that represent a person's name, like a traditional id bracelet would. When I saw these tiny porcelain birds, I had to have them. I knew I could find a perch for them and here it is. This is a one of a kind pair of earrings (the leverbacks pictured on the model have been replaced with fresh, NEVER WORN leverbacks, for sanitary reasons, though!). These tiny earrings are comprised of miniature portions of real shells mounted onto antique copper finish ear posts. Time and the sea have washed away some of the outer portion of the shells to reveal a rich, iridescent gold colored "nacre", or mother of pearl, that once lined the inside walls of the shells. These are my own spin on the classic pearl stud earrings :). A beautiful, fresh, unique look for summer!

Anyone who knows me knows that papier mache is a favorite medium of mine. I like to push the limits to see what I can get this simple medium to do, like emulating other materials such as wood, stone, metal, and plastic.

This tray is a more basic endeavor. The largest of a series of three, this tray was inspired by my love of ancient artifacts. From the Phaestos Disc to the mexican calendar, the mask of Agamemnon, and even the Rosetta Stone, many different things affected the look of this tray. Built from scratch with reclaimed paper and card, handpainted, and embellished with a brilliant gold acrylic, then carefully finished with numerous layers of matte varnish.

Intended for light use and decor. Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Great on display in a plate stand!

These are my own version of handcut, handrolled recycled paper beads. I make each one by hand from used magazine, catalog, and in this case, comic strip pages, then carefully glaze them. The difference is a bright, smooth, glass-like finish which illuminates the colors of the recycled paper underneath and extends the life of the beads.

I use my handmade paper beads in numerous projects (some of which can be seen here in my shop), and am now making them available to others. You'll receive a resealable bag of 30 unique beads in various sizes and colors. These are great for all sorts of projects. Though they are paper, and should be kept from excessive moisture, they boast several coats of gloss varnish, so they are able to withstand limited contact with water. As a confessed packrat, I have lots of stuff to store, and as a creative person, I love cute and creative ways to store all my essentials. That's why I love this new line of unique storage containers I just completed. These little Stashboxes are actually papier mache, made to resemble old fashioned tins and cans. I painted them to look aged or distressed, added pretty scrap papers and decorative objects, then finished each with a decorative paper clip that allows the newly organized individual to add a slip of paper specifying the contents. The price reflects the time I put into this one of a kind piece! Use these to store all kinds of pieces and parts! Personally, I like the idea of hiding my favorite candy in one and labeling it something like "scraps" to throw folks off the scent.

Upcycled Paper Mini Journal/ Sketchbook

As a creative person, I keep several journals and sketchbooks in different locations, including a small one in my purse to jot or sketch the errant idea that often springs forth. I'm also a bit of a listmaker, so I'll be the first to endorse my own handmade journals, for their handy ability to help one organize their thoughts and maintain a level of sanity :o). When the mood hits, I make these little blank books, perfect for sketch, notes, shopping list, expense recording, wishes & dreams, autographs, as mini scrap or picture books or whatever you can imagine. I upcycle heavy card from cereal boxes and cover it with specialty paper for the covers, cut and sew the pages from recycled packing paper, then glue the pages in and embellish the cover.

This little gem includes one of my handmade beaded bookmarks, featuring my handmade recycled paper beads, glass, semiprecious stones, and copper finish findings. The pair would make a very cute gift!

Shimmery antique gold colored glass seed beads set the stage for this dreamy, whimsical look. This pin is the first in my new series of unique handmade scarf/accessory pins. All the pins in this series are unique in that they were made from salvaged wire, and some of the components on them are made up of recycled materials as well.

This one has an antique vibe and color palette. It is a matte black kilt pin, with amber, gold, and wine colored glass beads.

This set of three warm, metallic finish spheres is looking for a place to land. The "Planets" are a set of 3 in assorted, complimentary metallic colors, all with a wash of gold in common. These lightweight decorative balls were made to add flair to your favorite bowl, bookcase, big glass vase, etc..

Made from a papier mache pulp of newspaper, junk mail, and other recyclable paper, these balls are lightweight, yet hard and sturdy.

For decor purposes only. Not recommended for houses with small (or large) children of the furry or human kind, as these are very tempting to throw and play with! Non-breakable, but since papier mache pulp dries to such a hard surface, these are capable of breaking other things! Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

I reincarnated magazine and catalog pages into the beads on this necklace, cutting and rolling each bead by hand to create a unique, fun, environmentally friendly way to add a splash to any look. Once in a while I'll even force myself to follow through with my original intention upon obtaining them - giving them away with an appropriate sentiment hidden inside for the recipient. I also love making cards, when time allows. This is a new design I completed today. It is an image of a moth and a crown in a sort of collage. This would make a great thank you, congratulations, birthday, or other card! The images are mounted onto acid-free specialty papers, then onto a 5x7 black kraft paper card with mounting dots for a dimensional effect. The inside bears a flap of blank, textured natural colored paper on which to write your own thoughts. Includes a natural flecked envelope. Paper pulp dries to a nice, hard, lightweight material, so it can take a little abuse! (don't run it through the dishwasher or anything, though).

The shimmery copper pearls in the bunch perched on this ring brought back fond memories of a trip I took to Savannah, Georgia. There were amazing smells wafting from handmade sweet shops on practically every corner. Picture old fashioned pralines, hand pulled taffy, huge vats of chocolate, and hot toffee being spun like silk.

These are my own version of handcut, handrolled recycled paper beads. I make each one by hand from used magazine and catalog pages, then carefully glaze them. The difference is a bright, smooth, glass-like finish which illuminates the colors of the recycled paper underneath and extends the life of the beads.

I use my handmade paper beads in numerous projects (some of which can be seen here in my shop), and am now making them available to others. You'll receive a labeled resealable bag of 30 unique beads in various sizes and colors. These are great for all sorts of projects. Though they are paper, and should be kept from excessive moisture, they boast several coats of gloss varnish, so they are able to withstand limited contact with water. The latest in my ring obsession series, this ring is a fresh spin on summer style.
This is an adjustable, antique brass finish ring, onto which I securely glued a dark wood disk and a natural caramel and cream colored shell. I cut the top off of a found shell and positioned it onto the disk which contrasts nicely from the light creamy colors of the shell. As a finishing touch, I glazed the shell and it's wooden base. The end result was a very fun, whimsical, bold little bauble. Arrives in a gauze bag - perfect for giving (or just treating oneself).

Papier mache is a fun, earth friendly medium that I think should become a part of everyone's homes in these times of amending our ways for the environment. Useful, satisfying everyday objects can be made from papier mache, which can easily biodegrade once their usefulness has ended.

This decorative pitcher style vessel was inspired by my love of antiquities from around the world, including Egyptian, Greek, and Roman pieces. It is an original papier mache piece, finished to resemble other materials, as I often like to do. I built the form up in papier mache paying special attention to creating the spout and handle. Then I began numerous sessions of layering acrylic color, then sanding, then layering more color to achieve the unique surface. The price reflects the time I put into this one of a kind piece. The base color is an antique copper, and the distressed top color is an aqua-teal color that truly pops against the metallic copper underneath. Dried or silk florals can be added to this piece, but it can definitely be displayed as is!

Too many of us often long for something we're already blessed with, but just don't realize it! Perhaps we often miss it because it's not packaged the way we expect it to be, or doesn't show up in the form we think we want (think of all of your hearts desires - new job, new surroundings, new love, new passion, new perspective - have you overlooked them right in front of your face?)

This is an original, one of a kind acrylic painting by me, painted onto a piece of reclaimed wood. The basic, neutral colored composition of the woman and the wing have been accented with a palette of metallic golds and coppers, to create the dreamlike quality of the piece. The end result is an iridescent effect, that causes the viewer to see different degrees of shimmer/metallics, depending on which angle the piece is viewed from (see image 5). I painted this piece to speak to some things I was feeling, that I had been hearing echoed in the words of people around me. I hope it inspires you.

Shell House Ring

The latest in my ring obsession series, this one of a kind ring is a fresh spin on summer style.
This is an adjustable, antique brass finish ring, onto which I securely glued a natural, muted toned nautilus shell. The shell is positioned on the ring so that it appears to hug or slightly wrap around the finger of the wearer. As a finishing touch, I glazed the shell. The end result was a very fun, whimsical, bold little bauble that's super comfortable to wear. Arrives in a gauze bag - perfect for giving (or just treating oneself).

This is another one of my original greeting cards, made from a snapshot I took to use in my sketchbook. The front of the card features a musical instrument called a “kalimba”, or thumb piano. I enhanced the image digitally, then printed and mounted it onto acid-free cardstock. The card is black, so the image really pops! On the inside of the card, I mounted a small piece of natural, handmade paper, flap style, with the bottom unattached, that bears the words “you and I make beautiful music together.” Note: the paper on the inside is natural, handmade paper, so it has random flecks and particles in it (some can be seen in the picture) - this is natural, and is not a defect in the paper.

The image is mounted onto acid-free specialty paper, and an acid-free recycled paper card, so it can be framed, as well. Includes a natural white recycled envelope. Arrives in a cello sleeve and packed with recycled board to prevent bending/crushing.

This item is part of a brand new collection that will be featured in my shop! Another of my original collection of bottle stoppers, it features my handmade papier mache pulp beads. I mount my handformed, handpainted beads onto sturdy metal stoppers, which feature soft, flexible rubber rings around their base for a secure fit into bottles of varying sizes.

Made from a papier mache pulp of newspaper, junk mail, and other recyclable paper, the beads are lightweight yet hard and sturdy. They are a testament to my love of creating functional art and, because the pulp dries to such a hard surface, they are virtually non-breakable. *Please see the end of this and all my listings for measurements!

This item is a great gift for oneself or anyone else, as it comes nicely packaged to give or store!

*** Unless otherwise indicated, ALL of my papier mache items are made from TRUE recycled paper and other reclaimed materials, not preshredded storebought mache.

Stained Stone Tablet Pendant Necklace with Copper Chain

I can't say why, but this piece seems to give off a tragic, romantic vibe. The simple, pretty stone pendant is bone colored on it's top half and has a stained red effect on the bottom. Go with that wherever you may - I'll leave the story up to you. The pendant has an attractive, oversized bail, and hangs from a contrasting copper finish chain.
