Temmoku (also spelled temoku and tenmoku) is a Japanese word meaning "Heaven's Eye Mountain," and is the name used to refer to this particularly rich traditional Japanese glaze, which is glossy black breaking to brown on ridges and edges of the pottery form. This beautiful handthrown Temmoku Black Vase can be used to display flowers, on your kitchen countertop to hold wooden spoons and other cooking utensils, or you can give it as a unique and elegant gift. The glossy black glaze has been dipped in layers onto the biscuited vase to achieve varied shades of glossy black, with glossy brown on the top rim.

The dramatic long brushstroke pattern of this large handthrown pasta platter is achieved by applying a blue colored clay slip over a white slip background to the wet clay surface with Asian calligraphy brushes immediately after the platter is thrown (shaped) on the potter's wheel. After the first biscuit firing, a translucent celadon green glaze is applied to the platter, and the piece is then glaze-fired. Each brushed pattern is different, and we try to fill the platter's inner surface with a beautiful design without covering the whole area. It takes a lot of practice to achieve a harmonious brush-decorated pattern. Enjoy it as a table centerpiece, store fruit in it on your kitchen countertop, use it to serve pasta or a large salad, or give it as a unique and elegant gift!
