Reg.price- US $60.00

A pink Iris flower and bud were cut from a fabric along with leaves from another fabric, and all were arranged and appliqued onto a piece of hand painted fabric. The center fabric is bordered by a light ivory fabric to resemble a mat for framing. Freemotion quilting accents the flower and background, with a vinelike pattern quilted in the border. The edges are finished with a narrow satin stitch.

The Botanical Applique series of art quilts are my version of the Botanical Prints that I love so much. Each has a simple stem of flowers appliqued over a hand painted background fabric. The ivory border acts as a mat for the floral arrangement, and it can be put right into a standard 11x14" frame as it is, or it could be further matted for a larger presentation.

All of my items are made in my smoke free home studio.

For more Art Quilts, see more of my other items at http://www.andrusgardensquilts.com/, or see works in progress and inspirations on my blog- http://andrusgardensquilts.vox.com/

Five Maples Sunprint Art Quilt- 13x17

$95.00
"Five Maples" Wall Art Quilt Sunprint Series- 13"x17". Regular Price- $95.00

This Art Quilt for the wall features sunprints of five Maple leaves on fabric painted in shades of blue, green and rose. This piece is constructed with satin stitch piecing, and is bound with an ivory chenille yarn couched to the edges. An ivory cotton fabric with gold metallic specks separates the sunprints. The large maple leaf sunprints have pastel rubbings of the veins of the leaves, and are free motion quilted with clear thread. The ivory sections are quilted with a pastel variegated thread in a vine design.

This piece will add a lot of interest to any wall, and will look great in any season. It has a hanging sleeve on the back to make hanging easy.

As with the rest of my art quilts, this is a One-Of-A-Kind, as I can never exactly reproduce the fabrics I paint.

Sunprints are made by placing leaves, flowers, thin foam sheet cutouts (for butterflies or hummingbirds), and(or) any other flat items onto freshly painted cotton fabric, while the paint is still wet, and placed in the sun to dry. The combination of sun and humidity affect the speed at which the paint dries. If conditions are ideal, the color moves from under the leaves, flowers, or other items, resulting in the sunprint. No two can be the same, due to different drying conditions and paint color combinations. Every print is a unique original.

See more items using sunprints at www.andrusgardensquilts.com, or at my Blog www.andrusgardensquilts.vox.com for other items and a demonstration of sunprinting.
Sunprint sized- 6.5x8", on 11x14" canvas.

This piece is a simple sunprint I did using Rudbeckia flowers and maple leaves along with other flowers over fabric painted with rosy browns and greens with some gold metallic. The 6.5x8" sunprint is layered with poly batting and a cotton backing. Free motion quilting accents the sunprints, and the little quilt is bound with a fuzzy, nubby brown yarn. It is mounted on a gallery stretched 11x14" canvas covered with an ivory, gold speckled fabric.

The back has a picture wire added for hanging as it is, or it can be framed. The photo with the black border shows what it would look like with a frame. The second photo shows the piece photographed to show the depth of the canvas. The third photo shows detail of the stitching and sunprint.

Sunprints are made by placing leaves, flowers, thin foam sheet cutouts (for butterflies or hummingbirds), and(or) any other flat items onto freshly painted cotton fabric, while the paint is still wet, and placed in the sun to dry.
Scattered Maples 3D Wall Quilt 13x17

$95.00
"Scattered Maples" Wall art quilt with sunprints and 3 dimensional leaves- 13"x17". Regular Price- $95.00

This Art Quilt for the wall is made of many different sunprinted fabrics in traditional fall colors as well as my favorite blues and rose pink. This piece is constructed with satin stitch piecing, and is bound with a nubby variegated yarn couched to the edges. The areas between the sunprints are crazy patch in assorted beige and ivory cottons. The sunprints are accented with hand guided machine quilting done with a gold metallic thread. The 3 dimensional leaves are "silk" leaves pulled from their plastic stems. These are stitched on with the gold metallic thread, accenting the veining in the leaves.

This piece will add a lot of interest to any wall, and will look great in any season. It has corner triangles stitched to all 4 corners on the back for hanging. While making this, I expected it to hang as pictured, but found it looks great hanging any direction. The corner triangles allow you to choose how you wish to hang this- just place a dowel into the pockets on the side you want to be the top, and hang with a picture hanger. The final photo shows it on one side.

Maidenhair Stained Glass Art Quilt with Sunprint 8x10

$80.00
"Maidenhair Stained Glass" Mini Art Quilt 8"x10" in size.

This an another art quilt I made like one that has traveled to many quilt shows. This one is much smaller that my "Stained Glass and Ferns". The center of the piece is a sunprint of a Maidenhair fern frond with a butterfly on cotton fabric painted in medium shades of blue, pink and green. The sunprint is framed by a border of stained glass pieced painted fabrics. I cut the pieces from quilt sandwiches, and satin stitched them together with black thread for the stained glass look. The fabrics in the stained glass border were remains from trimming some of my sunprints. Free motion quilting in clear thread accents the sunprint. The stained glass border is quilted using clear thread in a heart vine design. Edges are bound with a black yarn couched on. Display in a frame, mount on an artist canvas, or display on it's own.

This is made in what I call my "Sandwich" method. I begin by fusing fabric to both sides of a batting, then cut, butt edges together, and satin stitch the seams. Many designs are possible this way. The inner border was made with my fused crazy patch. The batting is backed, and then I randomly fuse scraps of fusible backed fabrics I have been hoarding. In some I have added soft colored painted fabrics for more of a marble-like look.

See gift items at andrusgardensquilts.etsy.com
Some of my sunprinted and painted fabrics at andrusgardensfibers.etsy.com
Works in progress at www.andrusgardensquilts.vox.com or more quilts at www.andrusgardensquilts.com.
