Tailspun--my new favorite yarn to spin. First gather up all the natural colors of wool on hand. Add llama and alpaca if available. Don't forget mohair locks. Make sure your wheel has a large opening for bulky yarn. Start spinning!

Here is a large skein (80 yards) of single ply handspun yarn--The colors are grey, black, brown and white and they are natural and random in the spinning. Parts are smooth, parts are bumpy and parts are wispy. All is fun for me to spin--but exhausting.

In addition: in this skein there is wool from our flock dyed without mordants with black walnuts, and red llama fiber from thecritterranch (thanks, Sue).

I can make more if you want it--but not until after mid-February.

Color potpourri. Here is a swirl of colors for all-season knitting: indigo, purple, wheat, gold, rust,pale ivy. What did I tell you? This multi-color yarn will blend successfully into any project.

There are 2 skeins--80 yards each--of handspun hand dyed single ply wool from our young sheep Roxy. It is near bulky weight so I would use a size 10 or size 11 needle to knit with it.

Use a solid color for a hat band and knit up the rest with one skein--it will match your jeans, your jacket, your sweater...
Crochet a skinny scarf and fringe it with some solid colors.

Just remember that Roxy's yarn will not wet-felt. It will, however, do well with a needle-felting project.

Ready for Spring? Ready for some pastel yarn?

Even if you aren't quite ready, take a look at these 2 new skeins. The colors are a swirl of wood rose, lilac and moss green. There is a silvery tint thanks to the mohair

Here is yarn that is a blend of 70% wool from Pippi and 30% mohair from our goat Benny.
It is handspun hand dyed single ply and bulky weight with lots of twist and energy.

There are 2 skeins of 80 yards each.

You may wet-felt with this mohair blend using a washing machine or use it for needle-felting. There will be a definite mohair halo if you wet-felt it.

Norma is the sheep donating the wool for this multi-multi-green pair of skeins. All of the greens are here:
jade, mint, olive, lime, pale--all swirling together for a bright green look.

The yarn is handspun and hand dyed into single ply skeins. There are 2 skeins. One is 80 yards and one is 100 yards, but sold for now for the 80 yard price. (Buy them both and get 180 yards for $32. Or buy one and specify if you want the skein with more or the one with 80 yards--you decide).

Here in Buffalo, the colors of Fall are gone, replaced by snowy white. Stand out in the monochromatic scene with a scarf or hat knit in these sunny--but not aggressive colors.

The yarn is a blend of 70% wool from Rita and 30% mohair from Benny which means it glides easily along your needles. The colors are toasted wheat and olive green swirled with gold and a little copper.

It is handspun, hand dyed and single ply. There are 2 skeins of 80 yards each. The yarn is worsted weight so I would use a size 8 or size 9 needle to knit it with.

This yarn will felt lightly in a machine and there will be a definite "mohair halo."

New yarn from Bernice that is bulky and soft.

This yarn is a bright leaf green with several shades of that green and some swirls of gold and charcoal.

It is handspun, hand dyed and single ply. It is bulky yet light-weight. I would knit with large needles--at least a size 13--and very loosely so the color will show through. It would make a fabulous large cowl to snuggle up in.

Here is some wavy blue yarn from Roxy. Wavy blue (not navy) because the colors of blue, teal, sea, aqua all swirl like a wave or an eddy. There is no purple, no green, no gold in this yarn. Nor is there the clear blue of periwinkle: it's the darker side of blue. All blue shades--but great with grey, black and surely, denim.

The yarn is 100% wool, handspun hand dyed and single ply. It is nearly bulky so I would recommend a size 11 or so needle for knitting.

There are 2 skeins of 80 yards each.

Roxy's wool will not wet-felt very well, but you can get some great texture if you are needle-felting.

What? Pastels now? In the Winter?

Well, why not?

It will be spring soon so perhaps you'd better get started on a project that you will need in the Spring. A hat for an expected little one. A light scarf for that grey dress. A pair of fingerless gloves or some cuffs for your trip North. A pair of mitts for an Easter egg hunt.

So--here is some 100% wool from Aurora. It is handspun, hand dyed, single ply yarn in a single skein of 80 yards.

It is a near bulky yarn. Try size 11 or even size 13 needle to knit with it.

Looking towards spring already with pine green and royal purple swirled together--actually it will also look fine in winter.

Georgia on my mind--especially when her wool is as soft as can be.

Here is a skein of 100% handspun hand dyed single ply yarn from this wool of Georgia's. There are 80 yards in the skein.

The colors are leaf green swirled with cantalope and taupe (I guess they rhyme...who knew?)

The yarn is nearly bulky and if I were knitting I would use a size 10 or size 11 needle.

Super-Soft describes these new skeins of 100% wool from Louise.

Corespun with Reds and Yellow: sounds like a musical piece, but it's just yarn.

Corespun is the wrapping of various fibers around a central thread or yarn. In this case I spun natural and dyed wool, mohair, llama, with some ribbon and a hint of glitter around a red cotton thread. I think you'll like it.

There are 66 yards in a single skein. It is bulky weight, but still soft.

I could make more if you need more.

New skeins from Roxy--she is a young sheep and has LOTS of wool (see photo!).

These are subtle colors: the gold, wild rose and melon swirl around yet stay distinct.

The yarn is handspun hand dyed 100% wool in a single ply. It is bulky weight and highly energized. If I were knitting I would use a size 11 or size 13 needle so that it would knit up quickly.

Here's a skein spun during the Roycroft Art Festival: several shades of a soft pink and light green wool from Rita spun as a single, then plyed with a complementary shiny aqua yarn.

The result? Something a little different--wavy, shiny and puffy. Great for a hat or a scarf or a collar or a vest-front or a bag flap or or or-- Just be sure to knit or crochet it very loosely so it can breathe a bit.

It seems almost like a party yarn. Do we have to be serious all the time?

A walk in the woods. Use this yarn in a scarf or mitts or hat and dream of a walk in the woods, even as you walk to the store or the bus stop.

Think Deep Woods aromas in these colors: mushroom, moss, bark brown, wet leaves and a hint of taupe. You might need to zoom in to see them all--they are very subtle. This is not a dramatic colorway, but it will complement most outfits and complexions.

Flame orange, sunset orange, pumpkin orange, orange roughy (maybe not), blood orange: all the colors of orange in this yarn, swirled with a little cream and red and apricot.

Here are new skeins of 100% wool from our sheep Hope. They are handspun hand dyed single ply of heavy worsted weight. If I were knitting with it I would use a size 9 or size 10 needle. If I were knitting a scarf, I would use a size 13 or size 15 needle and a pattern with lots of yarnovers.

Need yarn to go with denim? Who doesn't?

Here is a skein of 100% wool yarn spun from one of my friend Howard's Border Leicester sheep. I have spun it differently from my other yarn so that rather than swirling colors, there is a heathery - tweedy - look to the colors.

And what colors: denim blue, ruby red tapering to rose, a touch of leaf green and grey that will go perfectly with denim.

Dyed only with Greener Shades environmental dye.

The yarn is thinner than my usual--more of a worsted weight-- and probably should be knit with a size 7 or size 8 needle.

Some newly dyed wool from our Border Leicester friends: the colors purple, key lime, woodrose, cream and moss all swirl together for a decidedly pastel accent. Knit with it now and get a start on a new neck accessory: try a cowl this time or a long moebius.

This yarn is handspun hand dyed and single ply.

There are two smaller skeins being sold as one for a total of 142 yards.

The yarn is bulky and needs at least a size 10 needle. Stretchhhhhhhh the yardage by using a size 15 needle, a pattern with lots of yarn overs, and fringe it with something solid from your stash.

Just in time to make a scarf or cowl to wear in these winter chills--- here is a skein of yarn that swirls with snow-stopping colors: lavender, mint green, leaf green, wood rose, and a bit of persimmon. Guaranteed to brighten up any fiber project.

The yarn is 100% Border Leicester wool handspun hand dyed and single ply. There are 2 smaller skeins sold as one for a total of 150 yards.

I used "greener shades" to dye the wool.

It is spun a bit thinner than my usual so if I were knitting a warm cowl I would use a size 9 or so needle. But to stretchhhhhhh the yarn, use a size 13 and a lacy pattern for a longer scarf to wrap around.

You can wet-felt with this wool, but I would be concerned about losing the swirly color effect. You can of course use it for needle-felting.

New Colors for Knitting or Crocheting--Take a look at these skeins in 100% wool from the Border Leicester sheep at Howard's nearby farm. They are handspun hand dyed and single ply.

These colors are deep and rich: persimmon, pumpkin and plum all swirl together in a smooth yarn with a lustrous sheen.

I spun the yarn a bit thinner than my usual. For traditional knitting, I would use a size 9 needle. But if you are stretchhhhhhing your yarn for a scarf: try a size 13 or 15 needle and lots of yarn overs!

Border Leicester wool will wet-felt, but I would be afraid to lose the distinctive swirls. Needle-felting, however, would be just fine.
