Lush Heavy Gray Wool Hunting Houndstooth Fabric

$45.00
I’ve hoarded this wonderful heavy gray 100% wool herringbone for years - it’s been stored in a moth-proof box and is in perfect condition. Purchased from an exclusive fabric store on West 57th Street in New York City that is now, sadly, long gone! This piece would make a gorgeous bag, skirt, vest or hat and would be so cozy to wear on cold days.

Two tones of gray in a dignified houndstooth pattern that would work with many other wools and leather for a coat or bag made of more than one fabric. Great with reds and blacks as well as other grays. If I felt like sewing these days I would hold on to it, but I’m just not into it anymore and hope to pass it on to someone who will get good use out of this beautiful, beautiful, rich fabric.

62 inches wide by 70 inches long, or a hair under two yards/1.57 metres wide by 1.78 metres long; enough to make an impact with the right project. It might also make a lovely lap or car blanket.

This will be folded and sent in a box. I don't usually ship anything this heavy, so I am estimating the weight, but can be more specific about the expense when I know where you are located. I have not included insurance in the estimate, but I encourage the purchasing of it.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

They are perfect for hanging a pretty drop from for a simple pair of earrings, where the wire is as much a focal as the bead you’ll use.

Size: 35 X 5 mm. Lightweight and flexible. Not sure if the metal is base or brass, bust I suspect base metal.

There are 11 pair in this lot and I’m selling the whole thing.

Overseas customers, I'm happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only.

Lavender Czech Glass Iridescent Leaf Beads

$3.75
These pretty Czech glass leaf beads are iridescent – I’ve photographed them from different angles to capture all of the colors as best I can, but they seem to want to photograph a bit darker than they really are. They’re a frosty pale lavender with an AB coating; the touches of yellow and blue are perfect for spring, but also great for winter's ice. So fresh and sparkly either way.

There are 30 beads in the lot that I am offering - far less than what are pictured. They measure 12 X 8 mm, or ½”” X ¼”. The hole is drilled across the top of the bead.

They'll be shipped wrapped in bubble wrap inside a ziploc in a bubble mailer.

Customers outside the US, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

It's big and oxidized for a wonderful vintage look. I adore the rich warm color, but you could polish them with fine steel wool or a polishing cloth, verdigris it or paint it further.

I have a few more available for purchase if you want more than one. The price is for one stamping. You will receive one from this lot - they're all so beautiful in their individual ways.

Size: 2 inches by 1.5 inches.

Overseas customers, I'm happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only.
Vintage Photograph Early 20th Century Woman on Porch Steps

$5.00
This turn of the century miss in her black straw boater, lacy high collar blouse and fern, plain lightweight skirt, cardigan and lace-up boots date from within the first 15 years of the 20th century.

Trim and athletic, she is the picture of serenity in this photo, sitting in the bright sunlight on the steps of a house that has a lovely rail with beautifully turned spindles. I think it's a house in a city because of the iron bars covering the lower windows just next to her. There seems to be a reflection of trees and sky in the windows behind her.

The photo seems to have been trimmed down as there is a border on two sides only. This piece measures 3.5 X 2.15 inches. It has faded to a lovely sepia color, but is quite sharp and the detail is excellent. It's taped to a piece of foam core, which was how I bought it.

The watermark will not appear on the photographs – it’s only on the scan. This image is perfect for scanning for reproduction for scrap booking, framing, altered art and costume history, or for making special cards and ACEOS.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

1920s Flapper Vintage Black Silk Charmeuse Lingerie Evening Jacket

$175.00
Black silk charmeuse jacket with red silk bias border, red chain and vermicelli stitching and felt appliqué.

Purchased in the early eighties at Anichini, an upscale vintage clothing and linens store that was open in new York City at the time. It is too small for me so I’ve never worn it, but the previous owner must have, as there was some work done to the collar on the right side, some kind of alteration that necessitated the cutting of the red binding at the neck. If you’re handy with a needle and it bothers you, you might add a vintage bead appliqué to cover it, or wear a fun large neck accessory. The red silk bias banding along the neckline shows signs of age and there is a tiny hole at the center of the right breast.

It’s a gentle kimono-style jacket, unlined, that works well over a dress or pants. The embroidery is in 100% excellent condition, with Asian-style motifs. There are French seams on the inside, so no selvage is exposed, the mark of a high-quality garment.

This coat has no label, and while the design mimics the 1920s, it may be later, from 1930s, so it's at least 60 years old and in remarkable condition, and still wearable. The silk has a transparent quality visible in the photos. I believe that it was a sexy dressing gown, as there are belt loops but no belt anymore. A new one could easily be fashioned, but it looks great as is.

As much as I love this robe, it has been hidden away, kept safe for too long and it’s time for it to be worn and admired.

The 1965 mannequin modeling this jacket has measurements of 35-27-35.

CB neck to sleeve: 29 inches
Length: 31 inches
Width across bust: 38 inches

This garment will be mailed via Priority Mail with delivery conformation and tracking within the U.S. I recommend Global Priority Service for sales outside the U.S. as this is a one of a kind and beautiful item.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only.

Vintage Nautical Rayon Shirt Gantner of California Size M

$62.00
Truly wonderful vintage nautical themed vacation and resort-worthy man's shirt in red, cream and navy blue rayon by Gantner of California. How amazing would this look on a handsome gent on a night out at the beach with some crisp cotton or linen trou? For the guy who loves vintage, this shirt is perfect for your summer wardrobe!

Navy blue base with circles filled with symbols of sea-faring life - anchor, knot, flock of birds, boats, coil of rope, and contrast polka dot collar, front placket and sleeve trim. Practical double flap pockets, yoked back.

Gantner-Mattern was one of the great swim and sportswear labels to come out of California. The company was founded in 1876 in San Francisco. In the 1930s, they were the first company to make men's topless swim suits, called the Wikie. In 1954, John Gantner, the president of the company, sold the business to shirtmaker C F Hathaway. They in turn liquidated the company in 1958, due to a lack of profits. In the 1980s the Gantner label was revived.

To my eye this shirt looks as if it's from the 1960s. There is a hole below the right front pocket (see 3rd picture and look for the orange arrow) that could be mended by sewing a small patch behind it. Other than that flaw, it's in perfect condition, kept in a box and garment bag away from dust in a pet and smoke-free home.

Shirt is size Medium, but keep in mind that Medium today vs. then is quite different. Please measure your recipient/yourself carefully before purchasing.

Chest: measures 21 inches but to fit comfortably I would say a size 40 chest is the safest bet.
Across shoulders back: 18 inches from side seam to side seam.
Length from shoulder to hem: 25 inches
Would you like more measurements? Just ask!

Dry cleaning suggested. This piece will be sent via Priority Mail and insured within the US. I recommend the purchase of insurance or sending this item via registered or Priority/Express Mail outside the US.

1950s Glamour Vintage Pink and Red Fashion De Pinna Hat

$42.00
This vintage hat is a pink confection trimmed with red velvet bows. Imagine it sitting on the back of the head as a flirty and feminine teaser, sure to bewitch!

Fabric: dusty hot pink shiny woven fabric – it’s heavy, but I’m not sure if it’s silk or a rayon, or a blend of both. The lining is a red bengaline, and the bows are a rich red velvet, and are sewn over a strong, unbendable iron frame.

The inside feels like a lightweight buckram. There are tacking stitches along the front edge that I have not removed – they are sewn through the inner facing and don’t appear on the face side. Doubtless it once held a veil or other embellishment.

Dimensions: 10 inches across the front by 7.5 inches on each side. The velvet bows measure roughly 2 by 4 inches – theyre handmade, so all three are slightly different. The great news is that this hat will fit all head sizes.

Overall the hat is in very good condition – no dents or tears, but there are some dark marks on the edges of the bow and on the inner hat edges, and some small fraying of threads that could be clipped with a fine scissor. This hat has been worn, but it’s still bright and has held its shape well.

About the label: according to the Vintage Fashion Guild, De Pinna, founded in 1885, was primarily a menswear shop located on New York City's Fifth Avenue. They also sold menswear-inspired clothing for women that was finely tailored. In the early 1950s, De Pinna was bought by the Washington, DC store, Julius Garfinckle & Co. At that time, Garfinckle's expanded their ladies' wear offerings.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

I loved the bright and cheery logo of this T-shirt and couldn't resist buying one for my collection. It's been living folded in my collectible T-shirt airtight box since then, over 20 years ago! Where did the time go? It's been worn, but it’s freshly laundered and only slightly wrinkled - I didn't press it before putting it on the form for the picture. No spots or holes – it’s in good shape for its age.

It's nice and large - a Hanes Beefy T, size 44-46, so it will fit your man or be a comfy lounging shirt for you.

This will ship in an envelope inside a wardrobe ziploc bag.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only.

Unusual Hairstyle Coiffure Victorian Lady Portrait Vintage Photograph

$6.00
Emily P. Clask, you look mahvelous. You dressed up beautifully to have your picture taken in Springfield, Mass two centuries ago, and you still look great.

This mature lady may be in mourning, as she is wearing what is probably a black silk dress and a jet or mourning brooch over a crisp white collar, black band and fichu. Her black earrings are as ornate as her costume. I'm captivated by the thick, luxurious braid atop her otherwise thinning gray hair. Her pale eyes are quite arresting and there's a great deal of sadness and wistfulness in her expression.

This wonderful photo was taken by the Moore Brothers opposite court Square in Springfield. The image is a raised oval within a flat rectangle edged in gold, perfect for framing. There's one corner that has a bend mark, and the two blips in the colored background are part of the photograph, not surface damage.

The watermark will not appear on the photograph – it’s only on the scan. This image is perfect for scanning for reproduction for scrap booking, framing, altered art and costume history, or for making special cards.

The photo measures 2.5 inches by 4 1/8 inches.I've scanned the back, which is as decorative as the front.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

Vintage White Cotton Embroidered Day Gloves

$9.00
A pair of mid-century vintage white gloves from my collection are for sale as they’re imperfect because of some staining, but otherwise they’re in great shape. While taking pictures I noticed that the hem on one needs mending, which I have already done.

I washed these gloves twice and treated the stains but this was the best that I could do without putting too much stress on the fabric, using a soft toothbrush. They’re clean, but these are old stains and they may not come out with further treatment.

I think they will make a fine pair of gloves to go with a vintage costume or outfit. They have lovely roses and detail and are so very ladylike. You could wear them to a party and not worry about getting something on them because they won’t be your best gloves.

They fit my size 8 modern hands, so here at last are some vintage gloves that aren’t too tiny. Made of stretchy cotton with embroidered flowers.

They will be sent wrapped in tissue paper in a bubble mailer.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

They are rich in color and in perfect condition, purchased at a bead store in NYC. They have dimensional eyes, indentations on their wings and faint striped across the body. The black ones can moonlight as bats if required – wonderful as a spooky bat pendant for Halloween, for all bat-worshippers out there.

The colors are labeled clearly and I have included some back views. As well as some interesting color combinations, which I hope will inspire jewelry-makers out there to buy and create something wonderful with them. I think they would make a wonderful mobile or add some whimsy to a suncatcher!

The price is for each bead.

The colors available and quantities are:

black - 2
red - 3
white - 1
plum - 1
lavender - 1
wine - 1

All OvertheTop fragile glass jewelry is shipped via USPS well-cushioned in a gift box inside a bubble mailer.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

Costume Through The Ages by James Laver History of Fashion

$18.00
Costume Through The Ages, by James Laver, published in 1961 by Simon & Schuster. A must-have reference book for costume and fashion historians.

This classic book is a staple of many costume and fashion designers' libraries. James Laver, the noted costume historian, has assembled a continuous visual history of costume in the form of drawings from paintings, illuminated manuscripts, engravings, caricatures, lithographs, fashion plates, tombstones, effigies, photographs and magazines, from the first century A.D. to 1930.

From the back cover notes, "All the drawings are based on original documents contemporary with the styles they depict, redrawn, with a minimum of personal expression".

This unique book offers fashion history accessibly to anyone - you don't have to officially be a costume historian to enjoy it and see how apparel evolves from decade to decade, century by century.

1000 illustrations, 130 pages, not including source note pages.

I bought this book when I was in design school many moons ago at a college bookstore, and it has a little corner bumping and shelf wear, but the pages inside are clean; I rarely used this book and the condition bears this out. It has lived on a shelf and in a box in a smoke and pet-free studio for 20 years.

**The original price is stamped on the inside of the front cover...it is a price reflecting its purchase 20 + years ago, but if this book will be a gift, you should know this before purchasing**

It will be sent via Media Mail within the US.

Overseas customers, I am happy to ship to you and accept Paypal only.

Sheer Georgette Blue and Yellow Star Fabric

$9.00
This sheer rayon georgette panel fabric is left over from a show I did many years ago, for a witch costume, and it’s a wonderfully bright, sharp graphic design. Crisp golden yellow stars dot a cobalt blue background; the stars are surrounded by tiny white dots.

The stars measure 2 inches from point to point (across).

As it is a panel, there is a white line in the middle; it appears one yard across.

Please note a flaw in the fabric near the white line. (red square appears around it). It’s so close to the line that I’m sure that you’d cut around it anyway.

Width: 49 inches
Length: 71 inches, just under 2 yards

This would work well for a child’s witch, superheroine or fantasy costume – a sleeve drape, medieval hat trail, skirt gore, etc.

Overseas customers, I'm happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only.
Color photos, cutting and knitting paterns.

Collectible 1980s “passport to the inner circle of fashion”, reads the inside dust cover.

What are designer fabrics, and how can you make them work for you? Why is color a designer’s best friend? What is the fascinating history of Fair Isle knitting? Why do designers copy the exotic clothes of other cultures? Do your moods determine the clothes you look best in?

Headings include:

Transcultural Clothes, Fabric and Surface Design, Design ands Designers, Machine Knitting, Handknitting and Technological Chic, The Wedding Dress, and profiles of designers Kaffe Fassett, Bruce Oldfield, Heinz Edgar Kiewe, Sara Fermi, Antony Kwock and others. There is a strong emphasis on knitting techniques, so knitters will find this book especially useful, but it’s a great book for students of fashion and textiles and exotic dressing.

There is some wear to the surface of the dust cover and a tear on lower corner on back, but the hardcover and inside are clean with no marks.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

I needed some lightweight beads to simulate orange coral, and these had a great color and mottling that broke up the flat field of color. They’re molded and reflect the light beautifully. They’re large at 18mm, but so lightweight. Chunky necklaces are in season now, and summer is ahead, so if you love orange, these would make a great hot summer necklace.

I’m selling them as a lot of 24.

Purchased in NYC’s Garment and Fashion District.

Overseas customers, I'm happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only.

Patternmaking, stitching, color theory, and advice for making clothing for all figure types are only a few of the subjects covered in this wonderful encyclopedia of dressmaking. It’s a classic that belongs in the library of a serious dressmaker.

Book measures about 8.25 x 11 inches. There is wear and damage to the cover – the plastic is peeling from the front cover page, but inside the pages are clean and unmarked, with only some yellowing around the edges. There are huge and glittery abalone slabs embedded in Lucite on a black layer, and the removable black glass ash tray cup is the epitome of cool. You could use it for candy, nuts, or any small stash, if you’re not a smoker or just on display. It would also be a great gift for a guy or gal who’s into retro collectibles. I can see it on a home bar top or coffee table in a retro-themed den.

Wear and tear: scratches on the surface of the clear lucite, a ding in the glass ashtray (pictured) and some small chips on the underside edges. Other than that, the piece is in good condition. It was made by Design Gifts International, Inc. in the USA, dated 1984.

This ashtray will be wrapped carefully to avoid breakage and sent in a small Priority Mail box.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions. The gold-tone is in excellent shape, but the red enamel shows some small chips on the underside and edges of the flower. The green leaf has been enameled in two greens – it looks as if the darker green was added later. I think it gives this dainty brooch character, and it would be a lovely gift for a woman who appreciates vintage jewelry. It’s romantic and delicate and would look wonderful on a collar or lapel.

Measurements: 2 inches long by one inch wide.

OvertheTop jewelry is shipped via USPS well-cushioned in a gift box inside a bubble mailer.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

$43.00
Unsigned but gorgeous sterling silver pin and earring set just gleams – maybe it’s the rhinestones along the edges that help?

This pretty 1960s set still has plenty of shine to it, though it could use a more thorough polish. The large round brooch resembles a Christmas wreath, and its matching earrings are identical. Many of the rhinestones have fallen off over the years – but this is still a lovely set that twinkles and hopes for a new owner.

Unsigned, but all three pieces are marked as sterling.

OvertheTop jewelry is shipped via USPS well-cushioned in a gift box inside a bubble mailer. Insurance is included in the mailing price.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

Perfect for a sweet project for a girl and a good size – 8mm. They’re a rich color and the iridescent shine really makes them pop!

The color of the beads is slightly less orange and more peach than the photos indicate. For some reason, my camera feels the need to make peach more orange and try as I might, I cannot tweak the results to reproduce the correct color.
Disco Era Spiky Metal Pin

$20.00
Sometimes you don’t know whether something is striking or ugly…this, my friends, is one of those times. This pin was my mother’s and while I admire the strength of the design, it’s not my taste…but it might be yours.

It’s unsigned, and to me, screams DISCO!! – either 1970s or 1980s. Pinned to a lapel or hat...you'd be carrying a weapon as well as wearing a piece of...um, jewelry.

The black enameled “buds” peeking out of the “flowers” are enameled metal. There are no scratches, but the bronzy-gold metal does show some wear due to its age. It has all of its rhinestones and certainly gleams and glitters, so I gave it a polish with silver polish, which brightened it considerably, but it still needs some cleaning.

It’s a large pin; the circle measures 1.25 inches across and it’s 3.5 inches long. This pin means business, and I think is an excellent example of aggressive fashion at its best!

OvertheTop jewelry is shipped via USPS well-cushioned in a gift box inside a bubble mailer.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

This book has some priceless information about the cost of living in 1972 that will keep you laughing or crying for hours. Money saving suggestions, anecdotes, monthly workbooks pages, tables, instruction about wills, expenses, blank pages for figuring out dividend and interest income – everything you’d need to figure out a household budget. The pages are blank so it’s a nice clean piece of American financial ephemera for a collector.

The cover is teal vinyl and measures 10 inches by 7.5 inches. It even has its silver Good Housekeeping Guarantee sticker. 29 pages. It’s in great shape but there are tiny flaws on the edge of a page here or there. No writing or pencil marks as it was never used.

If you aren't interested in keeping it one piece, it would be great for altered art of scrap booking.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

Vintage Straw Striped Green Clutch Envelope Purse

I’ve had this summer purse for so long and have never used it; if you were to open it, you’d feel as well as see that it has probably never been used before me, either. It’s in excellent condition. There’s a coiled decoration in straw on the flap, and under that is a small snap closure.

Inside, look at the wee straw pocket – so cute! On the back of the purse, there is a strap that you can slip your hand through, to hold it securely.

Measurements: 10 inches by 7 inches. I would date this to mid-century or earlier. Perfect when you don’t need to carry much – to a brunch, wedding or garden party.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only. Please convo me for a shipping quote if you'd like more precision: your individual rate can be calculates exactly if I know where you're located.

Vintage Postwar Colorful Japanese Glass Bead Necklaces

$15.00
Wonderful vintage Japanese glass bead necklaces with mid century graphic tube beads in bright primary colors with white. The tube bead design reminds me of many esthetics – Wiener Werkstatte, Charles Mackintosh, and Japanese prints. The paper Made in Japan labels have been left on the jewelry.

The metal is gold-plated and looks new, and the necklaces close with a discreet screw-in clasp. Length: a comfortable almost 23 inches long.

The price is for each necklace. One for $15, four for $50 - you save $10 if you buy all four.

Colors available: Red, Blue, and Yellow and Green. I just found another green necklace, but it has one yellow tube bead in the back rather than all green like the one pictured.

Please specify which one you'd like in Message to Seller. If you want all three, buy but don't pay, contact me and I will revise your Paypal invoice.

OvertheTop jewelry is shipped via USPS well-cushioned in a gift box inside a bubble mailer and wrapped prettily, perfect for giving.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

$12.00
Sweet little mid-century vintage clip earrings are, upon close inspection, butterflies studded with golden glitter. Their bodies are tiny shells, and they still have their wee antennae. I’m not absolutely certain, but I think their wings are also shell bits – they have that iridescent look about them and are quite hard and beautifully layered. The clips are tight and functional – these will not slide off your earlobes.

Size: around an inch of fluttery butterfly loveliness.

I ship my items well-cushioned, usually in gift boxes, prettily packaged and perfect for giving.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.

They’re perfect for making lightweight necklaces and earrings without the weight of glass beads. You can trim clothing, accessories, lampshades, bookmarks, pincushions, masks, hats, purses – the possibilities are endless. They have a “seam” down the sides that you’ll notice close up but from a distance they look like real glass jet beads for your Victorian or dark project.

Two sizes available – 13mm X 6.5 mm (smaller) and 18mm X 9 mm (larger)

Quantities: almost 250 beads in each size, for a total of almost 500 beads! They weigh 9 ounces together, which is why shipping is a bit higher.

Overseas customers, I am happy to sell to you and accept Paypal only for these transactions.
