The PhatFiber theme for the month of December 2009 is “Aurora Borealis and Beyond”, so I was inspired to create a set of art batts based on the planets of our solar system. They're super-cute little art batts weighing approximately 1/4oz. each (set of 8).

This Panda top (60% Superwash Merino/30% Bamboo/10% Nylon) was hand dyed in a straight rainbow run with long stretches of each color. It'd be great spun up for a pair of neon rainbow striped socks!

Panda is soft, silky and fluffy. The bamboo's antibacterial properties and soft feel along with the fact that Panda is machine washable make this the perfect fiber for socks, undergarments or baby items.

I love to use dyed cocoons as embellishments in my art yarn, but they can also be used for making jewelry, paper and a variety of other crafts.

These are "A" quality cocoons, meaning that they are large in size and have little or no staining. They were hand dyed using professional acid dyes in my smoke-free studio. These cocoons positively "glow".

These cocoons are intact. If you'd like me to snip off an end and 'de-worm' them for you, let me know in the "Messages to Seller". I personally like to keep them intact as they make a cute little rattling sound when you shake 'em!

The color variations that would normally create a very distinct barber-pole when spinning become softer and less defined. For me, it also seems easier to spin than milk fiber in roving/top form. These silk carrier rods are between 4" and 6" inches long. They still contain the natural sericin from the silk caterpillar and as a result are stiff (they can be degummed in the same manner as silk cocoons if you wish to soften them for spinning or another application). They were hand dyed using professional acid dyes in my smoke-free studio and have a beautiful sheen to them.

Silk carrier are formed when the cocoons are unwound over metal rods on their way to form silk thread on a reel. The silk tends to build up on the rod and must be periodically slit with a knife and detached from the machine.

These rods can be used for a wide variety of projects such as spinning, felting, hand and machine embellishments, jewelry making and scrapbooking. I like to use them as embellishments in my art yarn. :)

They were hand dyed using professional acid dyes in my smoke-free studio and have a beautiful sheen to them.

Silk carrier are formed when the cocoons are unwound over metal rods on their way to form silk thread on a reel. The silk tends to build up on the rod and must be periodically slit with a knife and detached from the machine.

These rods can be used for a wide variety of projects such as spinning, felting, hand and machine embellishments, jewelry making and scrapbooking. I like to use them as embellishments in my art yarn. :)
