Aurifil thread is a long-staple high quality, durable cotton thread for sewing of all types including hand sewing, appliqué, piecing, quilting, embroidery, heirloom machine sewing, lace design (Aurifil has a firm ‘Z’ twist making it perfect for lace work), serging, wearables and home decor. Aurifil thread is also great in the bobbin. There is little, if any lint, so Aurifil is very kind to those high tech sewing machines. Seams lie flat. Aurifil thread has become a favorite among quilters as there is no bulky buildup when micro stippling in machine quilting and the thread disappears in ditch quilting. It is also great for matching color on quilt backs. Aurifil thread has been used in many award winning quilts.

Aurifil was established in 1983 near Milano, Italy.

Aurifil has unique locking spools. Twist the end cap to remove the cap from the spool to get to the thread end. Return the cap to the spool and start sewing. When finished sewing, simply wrap the thread around the spool and return the end cap.

On the bottom of the cap, you will find thread color information so it is easy to reorder the color you need.

Sizes 70/10, 75/11 or 80/12 machine needles recommended.

All spools are new and shrink wrapped.

The reinforced blade causes less deflection of the needle and reduces the risk of skipped stitches.

Hand Dyed Fabric Cotton Lawn Sunset

This hand dyed cotton lawn fabric brings back good memories of an elderly woman who taught me that orange and pink complement each other. I can never see a sunset without thinking of Rosella. The second photo shows a large portion of the hand dyed lawn. There are a very few tiny blue specks in this piece.

1 yard (36” x 58”)

100% hand dyed cotton lawn is a soft, high quality, semi-sheer fabric used for heirloom sewing, blouses, lingerie, fiber art, mixed media, fabric postcards, journal covers, costuming and fine sewing and craft projects. This could be used in art quilts but not utility quilts. The thread count is 90 threads per inch x 88 threads per inch.

Because of the process of hand dyeing, the fabrics are preshrunk. I do not guarantee that the fabrics are colorfast, however, every effort has been made to create a quality product (I rinse several times using Synthrapol) and they are colorfast with my particular water situation. I suggest that you prewash your fabric with a gentle detergent such as Synthrapol or Dawn Liquid. The fabrics can be damp-dried in a dryer and then pressed.

As with any textile, do not leave fabrics in prolonged sun exposure.

This hand dyed cotton lawn fabric is a green and fuchsia gradient. I enjoy walking in the woods and taking in the many colors and sounds of the flora and fauna in their natural element. The first photo is a close-up of both ends of the hand dyed lawn while the second and third photos show the piece in its entirety. The last two photos are close-ups of two areas of the hand dyed cotton lawn.

This fabric sunprint features Columbine leaves. Columbine is one of my favorite flowers. It self-sows with wild abandon and I never know where, or what color flower, it will be the next spring. It never fails to delightfully surprise me. The magenta background is highlighted with metallic silver. Painted with textile paint on 100% cotton broadcloth.

Fat Quarter (22” x 18”)

Hand painted fabrics are used in many creative ways, including as backgrounds in art quilting, piecing in traditional quilts, delicate petals and more in applique quilts, as well as in fiber arts, mixed media, fabric postcards, art dolls, bags, journal covers, framed art and home decor.

The hand painted fabrics are painted with textile paint, that does not alter the hand of the fabric, and then heat set. The fabrics can be machine washed and damp-dried (I’ve done so many times) and pressed. Abrasion can crock off some pearl and metallic paints.

BobbinSaver is a unique circular bobbin holder that holds about 20 small and large plastic or metal bobbins. Bobbin threads won’t tangle or unwind. Does not include bobbins.
