Vintage Bakelite Jack and Jill Necklace

$12.00
I used dark green swirled Bakelite poker chips for this sweet necklace. I cut pictures of Jack and Jill tumbling with their pail of water from a 1920's storybook. These are originals, not copies so be assured this is one of a kind. I printed their names on a tiny piece of paper and put it under a vintage watch crystal on Jack and resined over all. Drilled holes, added jump rings, a bead, and a little bird and here it is! I have it on a 16" ball chain which you could change very easily. I have more in a series of Bakelite storybook characters to come. Pendant measures almost 4" long.

Ceramic Tile Coasters with Vintage Japanese Scenes-Set of Four

$14.00
I am doing a limited run of tile coasters. I got the tiles at a local rummage sale-I don't use new store bought ones. These are of course, unused, but I like to upcycle. I used vintage bridge tally covers for these coasters! These are lovely, just lovely images of what I believe are the seasons in Japan. These were from the 1930's and I used two on each tile. Edges are all rubbed with coordinating oil pastels and about 10-15 coats of finish are then applied. These turned out to be somewhat textured. I mix finishes most of the time since I use upcycled materials and get odd results. So, they don't have a perfect glass finish but more rustic looking. I think with these pictures it adds to the textural quality of the prints. These are really nice in person. Each coaster has a cork backing. These measure a bit larger than 4" square. This is a set of 4 coasters.

Retro Bakelite Baseball Theme Charm Bracelet

Reminds me of those big disc bracelets of the 50's that jingle and move with such purpose. I took some vintage golden butterscotch swirl poker chips and added vintage cut out baseball players (the images are originals, I don't use copies) that make itt one of a kind. I then added tiny plastic Scrabble letters from a travel Scrabble game to spell the word BUNT. Everything is then resined over. I used a 6.5-8.5" charm bracelet (includes extender, will fit smaller wrist better)in a gold tone and added bits of vintage jewerly in plastic, metal, and wood. Includes retro hoops, drops, beads,a bee,two teeny lp records all on gold tone jump rings. Closes with a lobster clasp. What a perfect gift for the baseball fan! So much fun! Makes a great sound when "jingled"

I use originals only-no copies. Inserted in the top is a vintage glass test tube. Now, I don't have a drill press, I drill the holes for the tubes by hand. Sometimes the holes are not exactly straight-just wanted you to be aware. This block is covered with images from a very early 1900's childrens story book. Has a cup, bowl, plate with human-like features and I think is my new favorite! Really fabulous early illustrations!Ater gluing the image, I sand the corners and add an oil pastel rubbed finish. I then spray a fixative and a final two coats of a satin sealer. Glass test tube is a bit under 4" tall to hold a single flower or remove it and use it to hold a pencil. A great desk accessory. I have other sizes and designs to come. Oh, I added vintage felt to the bottom to protect your furniture. About 5.50 X 2.75 X 1.25".All the items used in this are upcycled including adhesives and finishes.

A cute gift for the person who collects ornaments. Your choice of SANTA,PEACE,NOEL or two HO's (You get both Ho ornaments for the $5) The listing is for one ornament. I used vintage gold/black embroidered ribbon for the hanger and covered the back edge of the ribbon with a vintage shaped sequin. I have a couple other words I'm working on. If you want more than one,let me know and I will create a private listing. Please specify which word you want when ordering. These are the last of them and I won't be making any more before Christmas.

Wall Block Wood Collage Vase Hanging-Alphabet Cat

$22.00
I've been trying to come up with a way to use some smaller blocks I had and some larger vintage pictures. Since I use only certain sizes for my block vases, I end up with lots left over. This is my new idea! I got a piece of wood from an estate sale and cut it to approx 8.5 X 7 X .75"-this is not a tiny block!. It is then covered with ORIGINAL (I don't use copies) vintage images from books or other sources. I then added a small rectangle block and drilled a hole that holds a vintage glass test tube. This can hold a single blossom or even a pencil. I added a brass hanger to the back that will fold out of the way in case you would rather put them on a table stand than hang on the wall. This block is from a 1950's Mother Goose book (along with other book images) and has an obscure fairy tale poem; "Great A, little a, Bouncing B, The cat's in the cupboard and she can't see." I collaged a few other pieces and added some crows to the vase block. The sides and back are also covered (the back has a page from a vintage dictionary. I sanded all the edges and added oil pastel color just like my block vases. It was then sealed with two coats of satin finish.Like my other pieces, this is 95% upcycled/recycled material. I love the way this turned out and hope to have some others soon.

I then stretched a piece of embroidered vintage handkerchief over it and added faux pearls one at a time all around the front edge. I then covered the back edge with a fine cotton cord. This one has a pale ecru background with a finely embroidered moose-it may even be a deer from the color but the antlers are wrong-maybe it is a doose! This measures approx 2.25X1.25" and is on a 5 strand cord with a lobster clasp. One of a kind and definitely sweet!

I then stretched a piece of embroidered vintage handkerchief over it and added faux pearls one at a time all around the front edge. I then covered the back edge with a fine cotton cord. This one has a pale ecru background with an embroidered little girl holding a basket and bag. Very tiny, detailed in pale, pale peach and grey with white. This measures approx 2.25X1.25" and is on a 5 strand cord with a lobster clasp. One of a kind and definitely sweet!

It has been covered with original images from a large print of a perpetual calendar. I got it at one of those incredibly expensive specialty boutique places where you can't afford anything-you know the type! I loved the paper though and had to have it. This is December and I will be listing October and December as well but I can make any month. I can, however, only make one of each month so first come, first served-just drop me a line to reserve your month. Perfect for an anniversay or birthday and an ideal gift for either sex! There is a hole drilled in the top of the block and a vintage 4" glass test tube inserted. (I do not have a drill press-all holes are drilled by hand and may be a bit crooked at times) This is large enough for a single flower or remove the tube and use it for a pencil holder. I then sand all the edges and add a rubbing of oil pastel paint. Finally, a coat of sealer and two finishing satin finish coats are applied. This single block measures approx.2.75 X 2.50 X 1.25. Everything used to make this item has been upcycled including the glue and spray finish!

This is an upcycled/recycled martini glass that has been covered with original images from 1940's childrens books. This has mostly animals-squirrels, rats, bears. A couple people and words, words, words. I punched them all with a circle punch to mimic the round shape of the glass. Trimmed with small pom-pom fringe and coated with acrylic. I'm even adding hard candy! Would also be great with M&M's or peanuts. Pretty and unique. This measures 7" tall and 5" across so a large size glass. Will be carefully packed. Perfect for a Secret Santa or housewarming gift!

Pair of Ceramic Tile Coasters with Trick or Treaters

$5.00
I am doing a limited run of tile coasters. I got the tiles at a local rummage sale-I don't use new store bought ones. These are of course, unused, but I like to upcycle. I use lots of vintage books when I make my wood block vases and sometimes the pictures are a bit too large so this is a perfect chance to use those larger pictures. This set of coasters is from a 1930's storybook and the images are of trick or treaters on Halloween. IMPORTANT! These are not up to my usual standards. I use a combo of finishes and sometimes they don't mix well. This finish is a bit too tiny bubbles and not up to my standards so I'm lowering the price. Don't get me wrong-they are fine and have a nice thick finish but just not as perfect as I want. These are such delightful images for Halloween I didn't want to waste them. I apply the original image (never copies) and seal it. Then I add an oil pastel color at the edges. I then coat these with 6-8 layers of hard acrylic spray. The sides have also been protected. Each coaster has a cork backing. These measure a bit larger than 4" square. Don't forget-the price is for a set of TWO.

This allowed me to use some pictures I couldn't use before-like these from a 1930's encyclopedia. This block has insects-hundreds of them. One side is benefuicial insects, the other is injurious insects. The opposite sides have images from a 1930's science book and has color pics of various large bugs. The definition of an insect is on the top. I get itchy just looking a this! I used a green color to accent the bug world. These block vases have hand drilled holes (may be crooked sometimes) to hold a vintage glass test tube to hold a small flower or can be used as a pencil holder as well. I hand sand the edges and add a rubbed oil pastel color on to the edges. Then it is sealed and two-three coats of satin sealer is applied. These are 95% upcycled materials including the glue/acrylic spray. This block measures 5.50X2.75X1.35 and is a heavier hardwood than my others.

I use originals only-no copies. Inserted in the top is a vintage glass test tube. Now, I don't have a drill press, I drill the holes for the tubes by hand. Sometimes the holes are not exactly straight-just wanted you to be aware. This block is covered with images and words from a 1902 beginner piano book. For some odd reason I have just found a bunch of old piano books everywhere I go! Anyway, this shows a keyboard with middle C, the middle c song, and a few other songs. Very old and thin paper so every pore of the wood adds texture. Perfect for someone just learning the piano and for the expirienced player as well. After gluing the image, I sand the corners and add an oil pastel rubbed finish.

This one has a hand made transparency of a Fiesta Ware plate that has two corn muffins and about a half pound of butter just waiting to be eaten. This image is from a group of flash type cardboard pieces from a 1950's school I bought. They are all about nutrition. The transparency is backed with vellum so it will show up against your clothing yet still be see through when held up to the light. The picture is sandwiched between two pieces of glass. I tinted the steel frame lightly with alcohol based inks and sprayed it with a matte fixative. I added a stoneware type beads and it is hanging from a 24" ball chain which can be cut to any length you choose.

This wood building block is covered with images from a vintage book. Inserted in the top is a vintage glass test tube. Now, I don't have a drill press, I drill the holes for the tubes by hand. Sometimes the holes are not exactly straight-just wanted you to be aware. This block is covered with images from a story about Horace the Ghost. I think it is from a 1950's book but could have been earlier. I actually don't find too many Halloween images and this is very cool! Four ghosts haveing tea on one side and two entering the parlor on the other. After gluing the image, I sand the corners and add an oil pastel rubbed finish.

These are "Inchers", jewelry made from pieces of vintage yardsticks. Covered with original vintage images (never copies), these one of a kind pieces are covered with layers of thick acrylic. The backs have also been treated for protection. Water resistant but not water proof and also be careful in direct sun-it will get soft. This Incher is Relax Your Neck. From a 1930's health book, this shows a neck exercise to help you relax. A nice reminder to stop and stretch! This is is 2" long. Hangs on a 24" ball chain that can easily be shortened but is about 20" right now. Could easily be replaced with a chain as well.

It is backed with vellum to help it show up against your clothing but it is still see-through when held up to the light. The picture is sandwiched between two pieces of glass. The steel frame has been colored slightly with alcohol based ink and sprayed with a matte fixative. I added pearl beads at the lower edge and it hangs from a vintage chain of gold color and pearls. Size of slide is approx 2" square and this is on a 24" chain with no closure, it slips over your head.

I found a very unusual, very old set of Old maid Cards based on Fairy Tales. I have used a card on one side and found matching stories from vintage books to apply to the others. These hang from a fuzzy velour cord and can hang on the wall, doornob, or be used as a tree ornament. Completely reversible. You can choose between Cinderella or Old Mother Hubbard or Goldilocks-the listing is for one block only. Measures 3.5 X 1.5 X.75 and are fairly lightweight. I make these the same way as my vases-applied images, sand all the edges, add oil pastel colors and then several satin finish coats. These are 95% upcyled/recycled-I do need to use new acrylic coatings from time to time. These are the last three of the series-all the others were sold.

It has been covered with original images of Halloween-even a poem on one side. All taken from a 1949 Children's magazine. There is a hole drilled in the top of each block and a vintage 4" glass test tube inserted.

I got the tiles at a local rummage sale-I don't use new store bought ones. These are of course, unused, but I like to upcycle. I use lots of vintage books when I make my wood block vases and sometimes the pictures are a bit too large so this is a perfect chance to use those larger pictures. This set of coasters is from a 1930's storybook about a dog named Spot. The price is per pair but as you can see from the pictures, there are four tiles all from the same book so if you want two sets of two they all coordinate. This listing is for the Spot annoying the chickens set. Shipping for 4 is only $1 more!
