This doily was made from an old-fashioned pattern dating from the 1930s. The center is a simple floral motif, but the doily has an extravagant border of miniature pineapples and fans, finished off with picots. Crocheted by Jeff.

Approximate Size: 13 inches in diameter.

Thread: 100% cotton crochet thread, size 10, matte finish; Baroque, by DMC.

Care: this doily is 100% cotton and can be washed gently by hand. Lay flat on a towel to dry at room temperature, then block into shape.

Blocking: I never starch my doilies. To block them I use a hot steam iron to press the doilies into shape, working from the center out, pulling out and pressing individual picots on the border. This technique gives a nice body to the crocheted piece but retains a pleasant, natural feel.
