This is one of 2 paintings I made as a custom order, and the client went to jail....oops! This piece was made exactly to her description, color choice, and specifications, but she can't buy it, so it's now time to sell it! Measuring 6 7/8" square, mixed papers and ephemera scraps on wooden plaques. Firmly affixed, with layers of UV resistant finish. This piece is about how the perfect group fits together...full of different personalities, talents, strengths, weaknesses, shapes, sizes, etc, we lend each other our strengths when we connect. Building together, we influence one another and accomplish so much more than we ever could on our own.

Part of the fun about this piece is that it is made almost entirely from cast-off items! All the paper it's composed of is old church bulletin cardstock (journey series!) that was clean, and saved by me from the dumpster. Most of the paint was applied from my art student's palettes....they tend to pour out too much! The mesh and tulle (6 pieces, some clearly visible) is leftover from a tutu making party. It's 97% upcycled!

this piece has layers of various media, including: vintage dictionary page, several colors of inks, watercolor & acrylic paints, pigment powders, etc.

artist's statement: First, I love poppies, especially red ones. I wanted to paint a simple, yet striking piece to end the month. The 'remembering' part is two-fold; first, to Ophelia's monologue, where she 'remembers' the flowers as she melts into insanity', and the second is a remembrance of my Grandfather, Carey Looney. Though we lost him to Cancer when I was just 13, I have amazing memories, and it made me sentimental as I created today. This piece is an ode to beauty, both current and fading, and a celebration of creation itself.

artist's statement: below the layers, glamour, dust and drama of our day-to-day lives, what matters is something far beyond ourselves. The base layer of this mixed media piece is a page torn from a 1963 Webster's dictionary, with the definition of 'Cross' listed on the middle of the right-hand side. This piece uses that text and supporting images as the framework for the composition.
